BACKSTORY

Unlike a large collective of fighters, Lena Lyons didn't adopt her nickname simply because it was catchy. It actuality, it probably isn't all that catchy - but it describes the Queens native to a tee. She acts like one, talks like one - and backs it all up like one. Lena is fearless, both in the cage and out of it. Whilst she's learnt to play by the rules and act as a professional (see: not fighting people at meet and greets) Lyons will still let you know if she has a problem with you, isn't one to be underhanded or fake, and absolutely keeps it real 100% of the time. Some, perhaps understandably, are turned off by someone who wears their heart on their sleeve so effortlessly, but anyone who Lena allows into her circle eventually finds out that she has a heart of gold.

Lena Lyons (born September 15th, 1995) is an American mixed martial artist and former professional kickboxer. Born in Queens, New York City, Lyons has stated that she tended to fight a lot in her childhood, often getting in trouble. Eventually exhausting the few options open to a high school dropout, Lena sought out the New York branch of the Slaughterhouse Gym, impressing trainers so much at her tryout that she instantly became a part of the fight team.

Successful ventures into both MMA and kickboxing followed, which eventually lead her to Caged Glory FC & Macto Legion Championship - where Lena was defeated in her pro MMA debut against Luke Sands at CGFC 7: Ascendance. This spelt the end of Lyons’ first run in CGFC, and she then focused on her MLC career, where she impressively defeated Cody Davis at MLC Fight Night 3. She followed that performance up with an entertaining win against former CGFC Imperial Champion Byron McCall at MLC Fight Night 4, cementing herself as a rising star in the sport, her talent in the cage backing up what her trainers and fellow fighters had been saying about her massive potential. Lena was then scheduled to face MLC’s On The Rise Season 1 winner in Paige Holloway in May 2017 at MLC Fight Night 5 - however Lyons was controversially and publicly cut from the promotion by co-owner Dean Machado following a physical altercation with a fighter not employed by the company at a promotional meet and greet due.

It's since been confirmed that Lena got her start in Slaughterhouse's New York location over this fighter, who felt slighted at their tryout together. Thugga then returned to CGFC, where her career yet again was stop start. Not being able to string more than two wins together in a row, Lena made the decision to venture back into kickboxing in the summer of 2018, leaving the Slaughterhouse gym & mixed martial arts behind, aiming for an autumn debut. Lena would eventually return to Slaughterhouse's Vegas gym, coinciding with her signing a three fight contract with Slaughtahouse Fight Night to compete in their kickboxing division. Lyons was scheduled to face 'Machina' Micaela Romano, the other fighter involved in the altercation that saw Lena cut from MLC, thought Romano dropped out at the last minute due to an illness. Lena would go on to dominate her late replacement, Annie Zellor. Lena Lyons, in her second and final fight with the company (due to it's closing) went on to defeat her longtime rival Micaela Romano, despite the latters attempts to use underhanded tactics throughout the fight, knowing she was utterly outclassed.

Following SFN's untimely closure, and after some reflection Lena Lyons has decided to return to mixed martial arts once more, determined to prove she is far better than her record suggests - feeling she is finally in a place where she can thrive and realise her potential, as many would now consider her in her prime. After leaving her longtime boyfriend who she lived with in Vegas, Lena completely cut ties and moved in with her best friend, Union GP's Zari Aliyah. In early August, though already training there with Zari in an unofficial capacity, Lyons tried out for and successfully was recruited onto Real Killas MMA's fight team. Lena now is making her return with Union GP in their bantamweight division.

A six fight run with the company saw Lena Lyons show flashes of the fighter she was largely expected to become, though on the whole it's fair to say her run with Union GP to date has been largely inconsistent. Derailed by a freak knee injury and marred by a controversial last fight of her contract, a UD loss to current Bantamweight Champion Dallas Meechan, Lena has expressed her vehement displeasure with the promotion, and wants assurances of her future with the company before she re-signs.

Lena Lyons would eventually re-sign with the promotion on a 4 fight, $400,000 per fight non-exclusive contract after a rather long and quite public feud with UGP President Dante Reed. A spat so nasty that UGP EVP Marissa Kanensson was forced to step in to handle the negotiations as she has done in the past. With her contract secured, Lena has the same goal as always, capturing the Union GP Bantamweight Championship.
