[The opening montage comes to a close and the feed transitions inside The Forum in Inglewood, California. Over 17,000 fans pack the building, where many have immersed themselves into the pandemonium and roar out with deafening cheers. With the uncertainty of victory or defeat looming, the aura is both intoxicating and tense.]

[The main stage, where the fighters scheduled tonight dawn their presence, is littered with carnage and destruction. A heavy fog sits stale, scaffolding strung in multiple directions, and the overall structure glowing red with fire, ash, and embers; something no fighter will soon forget.]

[The toll on both fan and fighter is enormous. The stage of a bloody war is set. The conquerors envision nothing but execution towards success, while the meek is flooded with doubt.]

[Down in the trenches, our very own Toussaint Harper and Patrick Carson stand cageside in attention to officially kick off the night.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Ladies and gentlemen, we are live exclusively on the Battleground Network here at the The Forum in Inglewood, California for the first event of 2020, Boss Fight XVI! I’m Toussaint Harper and alongside me is the one and only Patrick Carson, and Pat, boy do we have a night filled with a lot of bouts that will lay the foundation for the future.

PATRICK CARSON

Right you are, Harpy. Tonioght on our main card, we have five bouts scheduled here that has a mixture of newcomers looking to continue making their marks in their respective divisions, and a handful of top contenders working towards place their names in the title contention talks. In our opener, we have a clash of styles in the Bantamweight Division as #11 Dang Tay takes on #10 Darren Thatcher. Both of these guys come from totally different disciplines and will be a battle of who can impose their strategy on their opposition.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

From there, we have two top Heavyweight contenders as #4 Mike Hunt takes on the #7 L.A. Brooks. This one screams knockout power, as these two guys tip the scales at that 265 pounds limit. Whoever wins this one will move a little bit closer to reaching that title shot. This is a division that has been one where a fighter can go on a two or three fight streak and earn themselves a title shot, so this is a bout with big implications.

PATRICK CARSON

From there, we have two Lightweight contenders sitting right around the top five, as we see the return of #5 ranked Tatum Momo'a taking on #6 ranked Bellamy DeSilva. Like our opener, this is a clash of styles, striker versus grappler, so I see this one developing into a chess match where the winner will confidently secure themselves at least in the top five and become a serious contender for a title shot.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And then in our Co-Main Event, one could argue this is for a title shot in waiting, as #2 ranked Ardan Kelly takes on #3 ranked Lake Reese. This one has the makings of being a technical clinic with two of arguably the best grapplers in the division square off to be the man next in line after Jakko Wirman.

PATRICK CARSON

Anything can happen in this game, Harpy, but I'll agree with you there, Jakko Wirman is the man that many have said will be next in line for a Cruiserweight Title opportunity, but whoever walks out of this one could very well be the man waiting on deck. But then finally, in our Main Event of the evening, the highly anticipcated rematch between Middleweight mainstays as #4 Zion Momo'a takes on #6 Travis Decker.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Anyone who follows the sport will remember the highly controversial finish to their first encounter in the 2019 Grand Prix Tournament, where Momo'a won in a split decision over Decker, who many believed should have went the other way. Both of these guys have the chance to erase those disputes tonight in a five round bout with talks of this one possibly being a contender eliminator bout. But now it's time to turn it over to the action inside the octagon where our very own hype man Mike Dempsey patiently awaits. It's bout time folks!

"THAI VG" BY RIDAZ FT. ACE B

BEGINS TO PLAY

[The arena lights dim low and numerous spotlights begin to scan all through the crowd as the soft whistle intro to "Thai VG" by Ridaz ft. Ace B begins to play over the loudspeaker. As soon as the first verse kicks in, the arena springs back to life with a flash of brilliant lights and the crowd grows louder with cheers. As the beat continues to thump throughout the speakers, Dang Tay slowly makes his way onto the main stage area. Tay is surrounded by cornermen and members from his training camp while he himself is dressed out in traditional Muay Thai garments. Tay looks completely zoned in on his battle ahead of him as he walks down to cageside.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Alright ladies and gentlemen, making the first walkout on the main card tonight is one of the newest additions to the youngest division in Union Grand Prix, the Bantamweight prospect Dang Tay.

PATRICK CARSON

Tay is coming in tonight with some good momentum after winning his Union debut fight against Louie Bartolo at Boss Fight XV with a knockout head kick inside the three minute mark in the first round. The guy is a Muay Thai guru; he eats, sleeps, and breathes fighting and he clearly showed that in his first bout. I’m glad to see him back in the octagon, this guy had a very bright future ahead of him.

[Tay finally makes it to cageside and he begins to disrobe his walkout gear. He hands it all off to one of his cornermen and then steps over to be inspected by the fight official. Once he’s been cleared, he turns back and bows to his crew before slowly ascending the steps. Once he steps inside, he stoically heads to his corner, never once breaking focus.]

WHEN I GET TO THE BOTTOM I GO BACK TO THE TOP OF THE SLIDE

WHERE I STOP AND I TURN AND I GO FOR A RIDE

TILL I GET TO THE BOTTOM AND I SEE YOU AGAIN

[The arena is filled with The Beatles classic “Helter Skelter” and soon Darren Thatcher emerges. Thatcher comes out in his warmups with members of The Lair following behind, hyping him up. Darren looks loose and confident as he has a little bounce in his step toward the octagon.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And now The Lair prospect, Darren Thatcher looks to rebound after suffering a loss to Julia Tran at UGP 16 in Ireland. He’s another young prospect that shows a lot of potential to do big things here.

PATRICK CARSON

No doubt he’s got a great skill set. He’s got a great takedown that helps set up his even better ground game. I’m sure he’s ready to put his last fight behind him and get back on track.

[Thatcher makes it to cageside and strips down to his fight gear. The fight official checks to ensure he’s fit to fight, and once he’s been cleared, he gives each one of his crew a fist bump before climbing up the steps and entering the cage.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, we are live exclusively on the Battleground Network here at The Forum in Inglewood, California for Boss Fight XVI! And now, this opening contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Muay Thai Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 1-0. He stands 5’8” and weighing in at 135 pounds. He is from Phuket, Thailand, fighting out of The Legion MMA, he is “Red Death” Dang Tay!

[Dang Tay doesn’t show any emotion as he briefly raises a fist in the air and continues to bounce in place in his corner.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 1-1. He stands 5’10” and weighing in at 135 pounds. He is from London, England, fighting out of The Lair, he is Darren “The Bodysnatcher” Thatcher!

[Darren Thatcher is beating himself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking himself in the face, body and legs to get ready for his fight.]

PATRICK CARSON

A great clash of styles match-up to kick off the night. Grappler versus striker, who’s discipline wins the day?

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Two differing backgrounds between two young fighters coming in with the same ultimate goal in mind. Both of these ken look ready for action, so let's turn things over to our referee in charge of this opening bout, Willie Green!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The bell rings and both fighters take the center of the cage. Tay wastes no time shooting for a takedown, and catches Thatcher off-guard! Thatcher doesn’t even have time to lock his guard before Tay’s moving to pass, first into half-guard, then to full mount with relative ease! Thatcher throws a few punches at Tay’s ribs, but from the bottom, there’s minimal effect. He tries to shrimp out and escape mount, but Tay is able to prevent him from moving--and counters by blasting him with several punches that land to the face! Thatcher tries to get his guard up, but Tay cracks him with an elbow from on top!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And an unlikely start to this fight! Dang Tay is the one who takes the fight to the ground and looking to do some damage.

PATRICK CARSON

That's a bold move, Harpy. Darren Thatcher fares much better on the ground, I’m not so sure this was such a great idea for Tay.

[Thatcher tries to roll Tay over, but Tay adjusts and ends up taking Thatcher’s back! He gets one hook in, but Thatcher blocks him from getting the second, and tries to get up to his feet--but Tay drags him back down at every opportunity. Tay tries to get his second hook, and Thatcher blocks a couple times, but a few shots to the side of the head force Thatcher to move his guard up, opening up space for Tay to slip the second hook in! Thatcher can’t escape, but equally Tay can’t make much of this position beyond a few meager punches, and eventually, referee Willie Green calls for a break due to inactivity.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Well Dang Tay keeps himself out of harm's way, and surprisingly took Thatcher’s back.

PATRICK CARSON

You could see he doubt look comfortable in that position, probably a blessing in disguise for the referee to start them back up. That takedown could have been just a power move to make a statement that he's not afraid where this fight goes.

[When they’re stood up, it’s Thatcher that shoots for a takedown this time, but Tay sprawls and stays on his feet, cracking Thatcher with a kick to the ribs as he gets back up. Thatcher’s visibly hurt, and Tay engages with a few punches that stun him, and even send him stumbling backwards. Thatcher hits the fence and tries to circle away from Tay, but Tay throws a high kick that echoes through the arena, and drops Thatcher in a heap! Willie Green rushes in to protect Thatcher, but it’s for no reason—Tay just walks away from his knockout!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And this one is all over! Wow! Dang Tay perfectly timed up the head kick to finish this one inside the first frame!

PATRICK CARSON

Nobody saw that kick coming, especially Thatcher! That was an incredible set up, a big kick to the body that clearly knocked the wind out of Thatcher, and Tay just continued to rain down the big strikes to put this one away!

[The crowd explodes into cheers and Dang Tay is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Thatcher for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Willie Green has called for a stop in this fight at three minutes and one second in the very first round, for your winner by knockout, “Red Death” Dang Tay!

[The crowd cheers once again as Tay has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

MANY MEN WISH DEATH UPON ME

BLOOD IN MY EYE, DAWG, AND I CAN'T SEE

I'M TRYIN' TO BE WHAT I'M DESTINED TO BE

AND NIGGAS TRYIN' TO TAKE MY LIFE AWAY

[“Many Men” by 50 Cent begins to play over the PA System and soon, the behemoth L.A. Brooks emerges onto the main stage. The crowd cannot help but cheer at the sight of the big man chiseled from stone, as he stands at the top soaking in the reactions. Brooks is swarmed by his team in all directions and soon the entire group begins to make the walk down the aisle toward cageside.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Alright folks, making his way to the octagon now is one of the newest additions to the Heavyweight Division, and I gotta say, I don’t think anyone will disagree that this guy L.A. Brooks has all the potential in the world to be a big, big name in this division in very short order.

PATRICK CARSON

You take one look and he clearly passes the ocular test. Dude looks like a Greek God, chiseled from granite, and brings every bit of the 265 pound limit. He’s very quick for a guy as massive as he is, and his knockout power is terrifying. However, we’ve come to expect this division to be one of “who lands the final KO punch”, so anything can happen. But man, he’s put himself on the map with just his debut fight, and he will only grow from there.

[Once the group has made it to cageside, Brooks strips down to his fight gear and walks over to the fight official to ensure he is fit to fight. Once he’s been cleared, he gives a fist bump to each member of his team before stomping his way up the steps. When Brooks enters the cage, he throws his arms out wide and lets out a loud battle cry, which gets the crowd hyped up even more. Brooks heads over to his corner, shadow boxing along the way.]

ATTENTION PLEASE, ATTENTION PLEASE

THIS SHIT HERE FEELS LIKE A WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD COLLAPSED

MOTHERFUCKER!

[“Ante Up” by M.O.P. ft. Busta Rhymes, Teflon, and Remy Martin  thumps over the loudspeaker and Mike Hunt emerges to the main stage wearing his walkout fight kit with crew members from his camp following behind. Hunt has a stone cold look on his face as he never breaks stride and slowly prowls down the aisle.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

You made the claims of L.A. Brooks putting himself on the map in his debut fight, but Mike Hunt had the exact same formula when he stepped inside the cage, but things have taken a turn for the worse for the big man as of late.

PATRICK CARSON

After bursting on the MMA scene by defeating Hanako Takeuchi in his debut fight for the IJPW Shoot Crown Championship, Mike Hunt has been on a bit of a plunge. He’s lost his last two MMA fights in Union, granted they were against Donnie Calabrese, who at the time held the Heavyweight Championship, and Derrick La’Bell, a two-time Heavyweight Champ. This is a great opportunity for him to get himself back on track.

[Hunt makes it to cageside where he is checked by the fight official. Once he’s cleared, he races up the steps and jogs around the cage a couple times before staying put in his corner.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Heavyweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 1-0. He stands 6’6” and weighing in at 265 pounds. He is from Lake Tahoe, California, fighting out of the Lion’s Den Las Vegas, he is “The Big Bad Kaiju”L.A. Brooks!

[L.A. Brooks is beating himself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking himself in the face, body and legs to get ready for his scrap.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Boxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 3-4. He stands 6’1” and weighing in at 265 pounds. He is from Queens, New York, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, he is “Bam Bam Jigglow” Mike Hunt!

[Mike Hunt looks like he's feeling the pressure.]

PATRICK CARSON

I’m ready for this one, Harpy. Two behemoths ready to strike the barrels and unload on one another!

TOUSSAINT HARPER

You’re ready, I’m ready, the crowd is ready! The referee of the bout is Dusty Whittaker, and he checks off with each man one last time, and this fight is underway! Let’s go!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The bell rings to kick off Round 1, and Hunt and Brooks move forward, touching gloves before circling each other. Hunt fakes a punch, shuffling to the side as Brooks throws a counter before wrapping one arm up in an over-under clinch. Brooks doesn’t seem to like the clinch, but his effort to escape is blocked by Hunt, who keeps him wrapped up. A few weak punches connect from both men, before Brooks is able to free himself from the clinch, backing up a pace or two. Hunt moves forward and throws wildly, connecting with a few shots even as Brooks counters with his own punches that connect! Every connection brings the fans to their feet, knowing the fight could end at any moment!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And the bombs go off quick in this one, listen to this crowd!

PATRICK CARSON

This is what it’s all about, Harpy! Big, big strikes landing with every intention to end this fight!

[The flurry ends and both men take a moment. Brooks launches a low kick, with enough force that it might’ve swept Hunt’s leg out from under him if it had connected, but Hunt is able to avoid it. Instead, he throws a strong overhand that cracks into Brooks’ face, then pushes forward into clinch, wrapping up double-underhooks! Brooks tries to break the clinch, but Hunt’s having none of it, countering with a knee up the gut--that lands a little low! The pain is visible on Brooks’ face, and Dusty Whittaker stops the fight to give him a chance to recover.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Oooh! That knee looks like it connected below the belt. The referee is stopping this one to allow Brooks time to recover.

PATRICK CARSON

Yeesh, I don’t think you ever actually recover from that! Hopefully the adrenaline is rushing for Brooks and he can shake it off. Looks like Dusty Whittaker is just going to give Hunt a warning for it. I think that’s the right call.

[Brooks only needs a little while to recover from the accidental strike, and referee Whittaker doesn’t take a point from Hunt, just warning him about the knees. The fight restarts at 1:30, and while Brooks says he’s okay, Hunt’s able to take advantage of his opponent’s recovery, throwing several big punches that stagger Brooks backwards! Brooks throws a desperate haymaker to keep Hunt off him, but Hunt shoots for a single leg instead! Brooks is able to keep his balance, and eventually stuff the takedown, connecting with a huge straight right that staggers Hunt as he tries to disengage!]

[Hunt recovers quickly and throws a solid combination, connecting with two of the three punches. He finishes the combo off with a looping right hand, which Brooks counters with a quick jab. Hunt tries to throw big punches, but Brooks just absorbs them and counters with solid strikes in response. In the midst of the flurry, though, Hunt goes low and connects with Brooks ribs, before moving into the clinch once again! Hunt connects with a few more punches to the ribs, even as he tries to escape the clinch.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Back and forth we go here, but it looks like Hunt is taking control in this one with the clinch.

PATRICK CARSON

A great way to control the tempo and a great setup. Throw a solid combo and run in for the clinch to slow your opponent down.

[Hunt pushes Brooks back up into the fence, cracking him in the face with an elbow before trying to sweep his leg! Brooks is able to fight off the trip, and Hunt’s effort sends him stumbling to the ground. As he gets back up, Brooks advances, landing a solid 1-2 combo that visibly rocks Hunt. But Brooks isn’t content, and throws a high roundhouse kick that turns the lights out! Hunt collapses to the mat as the medics rush in, and Brooks jumps onto the cage to celebrate his win!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Boom! L.A. Brooks shut down the Mike Hunt train with a devastating roundhouse kick and this one is all over folks!

PATRICK CARSON

You see?! This is what I was talking about! Hunt looks like he was controlling this fight and then suddenly BANG! Kick to the dome and Hunt gets knocked into another dimension!

[The crowd explodes into cheers and Brooks is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Hunt for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Dusty Whittaker has called for a stop in this fight at three minutes ten seconds in the very first round, for your winner by knockout, “The Big Bad Kaiju” L.A. Brooks!

[The crowd cheers once again as Brooks has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

BRAZIL LA LA LA LA

BEGINS TO PLAY

[As the upbeat music begins to play over the PA System, Bellamy DeSilva emerges to the main stage wearing his walkout fight with his 9th World crew following behind. DeSilva looks to be amped up as he bounces on the balls of his feet down the aisle to the beat of the music.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Coming up now is a 9th World prospect who has been on a steady rise with his first two Union fights ending in second round submissions, Bellamy DeSilva looks to continue his winning ways.

PATRICK CARSON

He’s shown some great technique in his first two fights, and has subtly made some big goals for himself. His fellow campmates Kennard Rozier and Asher Jrue currently hold championship gold, and he wants to be the next one to do it for his camp. It’ll take some big performances to climb the ranks of the deepest division, but he’s certainly on pace to make that happen.

[DeSilva makes it to cageside where he strips down and gets inspected by the fight official. Once he’s been cleared to fight, he turns to give a quick fist bump to his corner crew before racing up the steps. Bellamy heads straight to his corner, where begins to shadow box and stretch out.]

MY BRO, MY BRO

THAT NIGGA MY HOMIE

COUNT MONEY, FUCK HOES

MAKE SURE YOU GET MONEY

["No Smoke” by YoungBoy NBA begins playing over the PA system, and soon Tatum Momo’a emerges to the main stage. The crowd cheers for the 36th Street prospect as she makes her way down the aisle with members from her camp following behind. Momo’a looks focused as she doesn’t show much emotion heading to the cage.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And now we have the return of Tatum Momo’a, who hasn’t been in action since her last fight at UGP 15 against Zari Aliyah in that catchweight Featherweight bout. From what we’ve gathered, after that tough loss, she wanted to take some time away to refocus on her training, and basically just try and figure things out. She will definitely have a big test ahead of her in her return bout.

PATRICK CARSON

She’s shown some great things in her young MMA career, but also some rookie mistakes. She’s been very up-and-down, but looked to be on the cusp of breaking into the next level. Her losses have come at the hands of some of the best in the business, so you know she’s close, but we’ll see if this time off has done her some good.

[Tatum makes it to cageside where she strips down and gets inspected by the fight official. Once she’s been cleared, she heads up the steps and takes her corner. She rolls her neck and shoulders a bit as she awaits her opponent.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Lightweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, an Unorthodox Fighter holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 2-0. He stands 5’11” and weighing in at 147 pounds. He is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, fighting out of the 9th World Performance Institute, he is “The Pride of Brazil” Bellamy DeSilva!

[Ferocious staredown by DeSilva while Herschel Warden recites the rules.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Boxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 5-5. She stands 5’7” and weighing in at 152 pounds. She is from Los Angeles, California, fighting out of the 36th Street MMA, she is “The Samoan Smokeshow” Tatum Momo’a!

[Tatum Momo'a is calm in her corner. She looks confident of her abilities.]

PATRICK CARSON

Another clash of styles bout for this contest. Grappler versus Striker. I think this fight will be decided by where it ends up. If Tatum can keep it standing, she stands a great chance, but if Bellamy can bring it to the ground, I think his superior BJJ will take over.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

We’re about to see who can impose their will and utilize their strengths. The referee of the bout is Herschel Warden and he checks off with each fighter one last time and calls for the bell!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[Tatum Momo'a and Bellamy DeSilva touch gloves in the center to get this fight started. DeSilva tries to take the fight to the ground with a single leg takedown. Momo'a is unable to remain on her feet and falls to the ground. On the ground, Momo'a moves to high guard and tries to close an armbar, but Bellamy breaks the lock, rolls on the ground and stands up quickly. Herschel Warden halts the fight to stand up Tatum Momo'a. The fight resumes with both fighters standing.]

PATRICK CARSON

Whew! Tatum just tried to end this in record fashion, but DeSilva is able to slip free.

[Both fighters circle around the center of the cage and you can hear the excitement from the crowd. Momo'a studies her opponent looking for a hole in his defense. DeSilva brings the fight to the ground with a blast double leg takedown. DeSilva tries to improve position and frees a leg to get to half guard. Tatum attempts to move to full guard but Bellamy keeps good control and remains in half guard. Tatum continues to work from the bottom and is able to close guard. DeSilva tries to escape from the closed guard and eventually succeeds and takes a second to breathe.]

[DeSilva gets in good position on the ground but Momo'a holds his arms and counters his opponent’s punches. Bellamy DeSilva launches a few weak punches to Momo'a and needs to improve his position to do some damage. DeSilva moves on the ground and gets to half guard. He frees his leg and is now controlling Momo'a from the side mount. DeSilva slides his knee across and gets to full mount now! DeSilva catches Momo'a's right arm and tries a kimura, but Tatum holds her own arm and struggles until she gets free.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Tatum is holding her own on the ground here, but I’m sure she’s looking to bring the fight back to the feet where she’s more comfortable.

[Momo'a is using some of her ground skills to escape from the bottom, but DeSilva pushes her down and prevents her attempt to escape. DeSilva fakes a few punches and after a brief struggle he catches Momo'a's arm and tries an armbar! That armbar looks tight, but Momo'a holds her own hand and with pure strength she breaks the lock. She rolls over and launches over Bellamy DeSilva!]

[Tatum Momo'a is in side mount over Bellamy DeSilva now and DeSilva measures the resilience of Momo'a's ribs with a couple of big punches from guard. Those hits are leaving hitches in Momo'a's side. Deep breaths from Bellamy DeSilva who tries a hammer punch to Momo'a's ribs but Momo'a blocks those punches. DeSilva now tries to show some ground skills and puts Momo'a in half guard. He launches a few punches to Momo'a's cheek from the guard and those punches sure are annoying because Momo'a tries to cover her face.]

[Tatum Momo'a tries to pass Bellamy DeSilva's guard. She manages to get her leg free and moves to side mount. Deep breaths from Bellamy who then tries a hammer punch to Momo'a's ribs. That connects and Momo'a moves on the ground in order to protect herself. DeSilva shows some ground skills and puts Momo'a in half guard. DeSilva throws his legs up in a triangle attempt! Tatum realizes the danger and slips free to avoid the attack. DeSilva fails here and it's time for Tatum Momo'a to fight back! Bellamy DeSilva slides his legs high and tries to apply another triangle but Momo'a cuts to the side and manages to pass to side mount! DeSilva measures the resilience of Momo'a's ribs with a couple of big punches from guard and those hits are leaving welts in Momo'a's side.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Bellamy is throwing a lot at Momo’a here but she continues to fight her way out of harm's way.

PATRICK CARSON

She’s doing a fine job slipping out of those dangerous positions, but how many times can she do it? She needs to get back to her feet and utilize her strengths.

[Bellamy DeSilva launches a few punches to Momo'a's cheek from the guard that connect and Tatum tries to cover up. DeSilva tries to show some ground skills but Momo'a uses her strength to keep Bellamy at a disadvantage. Tatum Momo'a throws a flurry of punches but DeSilva is defending himself well. None of them connect. DeSilva attempts to trap Momo'a in his guard and manages to switch to full guard. Momo'a is in closed guard now and DeSilva tries to roll on the ground! Nice reversal! He is now in full mount over Tatum Momo'a!]

[Tatum Momo'a doesn't want to continue the fight in this position and tries to get back on her feet but she can't do it because of DeSilva's movement. DeSilva tries to keep his position while looking to maybe begin some ground and pound. He controls the situation despite Tatum Momo'a’s efforts to escape from the full mount. The buzzer finally sounds and Herschel Warden separates the fighters as the round concludes. The fighters shake hands as they head back to their corners.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

That was a close round there, Patrick. Neither one took a commanding lead in my mind, but I’d say this one goes to DeSilva.

PATRICK CARSON

I’d have to agree with you there, Harpy. Even though he didn’t get a whole lot of offense going, he still was able to push the pace and did land a few more shots over Tatum. To me, I think Tatum will try and keep this fight standing in the second round.

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[Round two begins and Bellamy DeSilva moves forward looking for a hole in his opponent's defense. DeSilva sets up a textbook single leg and brings Tatum down to the mat. DeSilva lands in side mount over Momo'a. He’s looking for the full mount as he slides his knee across and gets to mount. DeSilva tries to open up Momo'a's defense faking a few punches. He is aggressively and repeatedly punching Momo'a in the side of the head now! DeSilva sees an opening and goes for an armbar! Tatum Momo'a breaks the lock and pushes Bellamy DeSilva away, who rolls over his back and gets to standing position. Herschel Warden halts the fight to stand up Momo’a. The fight resumes with both fighters standing.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Just like round one, Bellamy hits a well timed takedown and goes straight for the armbar.

PATRICK CARSON

Dude’s got crazy good Jiu-Jitsu, if he keeps at it he’s gonna catch her, I feel it.

[Back on the feet, a brilliant combination from Tatum Momo'a connects that forces DeSilva to try and defend better. DeSilva tries to bring the fight to the ground with another takedown and Momo'a goes down. DeSilva is in open guard over Momo'a. A weak combo of punches from DeSilva connect and they’re bothering Momo'a even though they aren't hurting her. DeSilva tries to jump to side mount but Momo'a closed her guard around him. DeSilva is able to isolate Momo'a's right arm looking for an armbar. Momo'a manages to sit up and pull her arm out of danger! Bellamy DeSilva lost his dominant position.]

[Tatum Momo'a is in open guard over DeSilva now and DeSilva tries to close his guard around Momo'a. After working diligently, he succeeds! Momo'a is in closed guard and DeSilva tries to roll on the ground! Nice reversal! He is now in full mount over Tatum Momo'a! DeSilva holds Tatum Momo'a's arm and tries an armbar once again! Momo'a breaks the lock and now she is in a closed guard over Bellamy DeSilva! DeSilva tries to roll on the ground and gets another nice reversal! He is now back in full mount over Tatum Momo'a! Pitty-pat punches from DeSilva and Tatum Momo'a doesn't even flinch. Momo'a is using some of her ground skills to try and escape, but DeSilva pushes her down and prevents her attempts at escaping. More pitty-pat punches from DeSilva connect and they seem to be bothering Momo'a now even though they aren't hurting her. DeSilva grabs his own foot and slides it underneath Momo'a's chin in a gogopata attempt! Momo'a pulls free and uses the opportunity to pass DeSilva's guard by freeing a leg and moving to side mount.]

[Bellamy DeSilva attempts to trap Tatum Momo'a in his guard but still manages to switch to full guard. Momo'a is in closed guard now and DeSilva tries to roll on the ground! Nice reversal! He is now in full mount over Tatum Momo'a! DeSilva fakes a few punches and after a brief struggle he catches Momo'a's arm and tries an armbar! Momo'a hold her own hand and breaks DeSilva's lock. She rolls over and launches over DeSilva to get to side mount. DeSilva attempts to trap Momo'a in his guard and manages to switch back to full guard. DeSilva attempts a triangle from bottom! Tatum Momo'a slips out. DeSilva quickly turns his hips over and switches to the armbar! He's throwing everything at her! Momo'a slips out and backs away to avoid danger.]

PATRICK CARSON

Oooh! I thought Bellamy had it there! I don’t know how Tatum has been able to slip free from all of the submission attempts, but I’m impressed with her ground game!

[Tatum Momo'a is in open guard over DeSilva. DeSilva tries to close his guard around Momo'a and succeeds. Tatum is looking to pass DeSilva's guard but he has a solid hold and keeps his ankles locked. Momo'a continues in closed guard and DeSilva tries to roll on the ground! Nice reversal! He is now in full mount over Tatum Momo'a once again! Momo'a tries to move on the ground and escape from the full mount but DeSilva doesn't want to lose his favorable position and he struggles to maintain the full mount. Bellamy DeSilva throws a lot of punches and some of the strikes get through.]

[Momo'a tries again to move on the ground and escape from the full mount but  DeSilva keeps her at bay. Momo'a tries to roll on the ground but DeSilva knows how to keep his advantage on the ground. DeSilva tries to open up Tatum Momo'a's defense by faking a few punches and then starts unloading heavy bombs to the side of the head! DeSilva catches Momo'a's left arm and tries a kimura but she holds her own arm and struggles until she gets free. Herschel Warden has seen enough passivity on the ground now and decides to stand up the fighters. Both fighters have climbed to their feet and they continue the fight standing as the crowd cheers them on. As they get back to their feet, DeSilva quickly shoots in for a double leg takedown and bring Tatum to the mat as the buzzer sounds. Herschel Warden separates the fighters as the round concludes. The fighters shake hands as they head back to their corners.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Another nail biter there but I think Bellamy pulled through once again. He’s being very methodical in his offense, picking his spots for submissions in particular.

PATRICK CARSON

I agree. Tatum is down two rounds by my score but she still looks good out there. I think she’s gonna have to finish this fight in order to win this one. Time to leave it all out there!

=========================================

ROUND THREE

=========================================

[The final round begins and both fighters close the distance in the center of the cage. Tatum Momo'a throws an uppercut that lands solidly in DeSilva’s chin. Momo'a decides to follow up with some tentative punches and DeSilva takes the best of a brief punching exchange. Momo'a tries to bring the fight to the ground with a takedown but DeSilva won't budge, forcing Momo'a to pull guard.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Interesting move for Tatum here to pull guard and take the fight back to the ground.

PATRICK CARSON

I don’t know if I agree with that strategy, Harpy.

[DeSilva is in closed guard and Momo'a tries to roll on the ground but DeSilva uses his leg to keep his position on the ground. DeSilva is starting to look like he’s gassing out, his performance may start to suffer. He tries to better his position on the ground and breaks the closed guard of Momo'a and moves to half guard. Momo'a attempts to trap DeSilva in her guard and manages to switch to full guard.]

[DeSilva works on the ground with his fingers over Momo'a's face. He seems to have encountered the eye! Herschel Warden saw it! Herschel Warden stops the fight and takes away one point from Bellamy DeSilva for the eye poke. Warden gives Momo'a time to recover and after a few moments she seems to be ready to fight again. The fight resumes with both fighters standing.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Wow! Herschel Warden not playing games out there and deducted a point from Bellamy.

PATRICK CARSON

Evidently he believed it to be blatant so he made an example out of it. That could come back to hurt DeSilva.

[Tatum throws a low kick to keep some distance but Bellamy DeSilva rushes in and rains down a series of punches! Momo'a may be in trouble here! Several good body shots land on Momo'a and she’s guessing out there now. Momo'a moves forward and launches a low kick but DeSilva blocks it. DeSilva and Momo'a step in to each other and engage in a wild exchange of punches! Tatum Momo'a is getting the best of the exchange as she lands a few more blows. Momo'a fakes a punch and shows some footwork moving aside now.]

[A right hand thrown from Bellamy DeSilva misses its target. Tatum Momo'a counters with an uppercut that lands uncontested and DeSilva stumbles back! Tatum goes to rush in, but DeSilva quickly changes levels and takes the fight back down to the ground with a perfectly timed single leg and DeSilva lands in side mount. Momo'a tries to move on the ground and shows DeSilva a crack in her guard which he uses for a big elbow! Momo'a uses her forearms to block the impact! DeSilva is trying to better his position on the ground and launches a couple of elbows against Momo'a's ribs. Momo'a blocks DeSilva's moves and tries to reverse the situation. She attempts to trap DeSilva in her guard and manages to switch to full guard.]

[Deep breaths from Tatum Momo'a who tries a hammer punch to DeSilva's ribs. That connects hard and DeSilva moves on the ground in order to protect himself better. DeSilva positions himself for a round of ground and pound and tries to finish the fight with some precise elbows but Momo'a's covers up well to block the strikes. Momo'a tries to close her guard around DeSilva and succeeds! DeSilva is in closed guard now and Momo'a tries to roll on the ground! Nice reversal! She is now in full mount over Bellamy DeSilva!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Tatum Momo’a has come alive in this final round here and outworking DeSilva on the ground!

PATRICK CARSON

Add in the solid stand up earlier and she’s gaining some great momentum here!

[Tatum Momo'a is in full mount and DeSilva tries to escape from the full mount, but Momo'a is not caught off guard and moves to side mount to keep her superior position. Momo'a works to get back in full mount, and just as she does, the final buzzer sounds! Herschel Warden tells the fighters to go to their corners as the round is over.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A great third round for Tatum Momo’a as she controlled the tempo and really worked in some great offense.

PATRICK CARSON

Biggest question now is whether she impressed the judges in the first two. Me personally, I have a slight edge to DeSilva, but that point deduction may just be the biggest factor here.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

No doubt that's a huge factor, one that Bellamy would surely dispute. Let's turn it back over to Mike Dempsey with the official ruling.

[The crowd cheer on both fighters as this fight comes to its end. Doctors tend to both fighters for a while and after doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, after three rounds, we go to the judges’ scorecards. All three judges have scored this 28-28, resulting in a Draw!

[The crowd is stunned at the announcement just as much as each fighter. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

I'M LOOKING FOR THE FIGHT, FROM THE START TO END,

I'M LOOKING THROUGH THE LIGHT THROUGH THE GOOD AND MY SINS.

I KNOW I HAVE TO WIN TO BE PRINCE TO A KING

["Young King" by K Huncho blares over the loudspeaker and Lake Reese emerges to the main stage wearing his gray walkout fight kit trimmed in blue with his 9th World crew following behind. Reese looks calm yet focused, making no stops for showboating and continues to make his way down to the cage.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And here we are in the Co-Main event of the evening, and we have another fighter making his return since a loss at UGP 15, “Smooth” Lake Reese. Reese was on pace to become a very serious contender, but two straight losses has stymied his ascent.

PATRICK CARSON

He’s looking to get back in the win column and he needs this one bad. I’m not sure where you go after taking straight three L’s in a thin division like the 225 pound class. This is a big moment for Lake Reese, and I’m looking forward to see how he performs tonight.

[Reese makes it to cageside and he strips down to his fight gear and hands off his warmups to the nearest coach. He steps forward to get checked out by the fight official to ensure he’s fit to fight. Once he’s been cleared, Reese crawls up the steps and into the cage, where he then jogs a few laps around before stationing in his corner.]

[The lights in the arena dim down and a single spotlight shines at the main stage. The soft intro of “Remember This” by NF begins to play as the crowd begins to grow louder. Just as the first verse kicks in, Ardan Kelly bursts onto the main stage.]

YEAH, HANDOUTS CREATE LAZY PEOPLE I'M NOT IMPRESSED WITH

YOU WANT SOMETHING IN LIFE, THEN WHY DON'T YOU GO AND GET IT?

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS DO, IT'S PRETTY QUIET, ISN'T IT?

LOOK AT THE WORLD WE LIVE IN, DEFINED BY COMMENT SECTIONS

[The crowd pops for Kelly who is decked out in his Irish themed fight kit with ScrapYard crew members flanking him from either side. Kelly bobs his head to the song while keeping a stern focus as he begins to make his way toward the octagon.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Now making his way to the octagon, the Irish bred Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler Ardan Kelly looks to be in a prime position to catapult himself in top contention in this division. Just three fights in, his only loss came at the hands of two-time Cruiserweight Champion Roscoe Robinson, and that was a very competitive bout for two rounds before The Shooter did what he does best.

PATRICK CARSON

Hard to knock that loss, considering it being only his second professional fight and being against arguably the best in the industry. I feel like he has the edge in this match up, however Reese has a little more experience so that could absolutely factor in the result.

[Just as Kelly reaches cageside, he strips down to his trunks and hands them off to one coach while another coach hands him a bottled water. Kelly takes a quick swig before getting checked out by the fight official. Once he’s been cleared, he goes around each corner member and gives them each a quick hug before ascending the stairs and entering the cage. Kelly stays calm and takes in the aura while bouncing around to stay loose and warm.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Co-Main Event of the evening! Sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission, our three judges scoring this contest at cageside are Miranda Franco, Max Carver, and Ozzie Sebastian, and when the action begins, our referee in charge in the octagon is Jordan Ripley. AND NOW, this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The following contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Cruiserweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Muay Thai Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 2-2. He stands 6’ even and weighing in at 220 pounds. He is from Kansas City, Missouri, fighting out of the 9th World Performance Institute, he is “Smooth” Lake Reese!

[Lake Reese shifts back and forth nervously as the crowd cheers him on.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 2-1. He stands 6’2” and weighing in at 225 pounds. He is from Dublin, Ireland, fighting out of The ScrapYard MMA, he is Ardan “The Angel” Kelly!

[Ardan Kelly is beating himself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking himself in the face, body and legs to get ready for his fight.]

PATRICK CARSON

Alright ladies and gentlemen, we are all set and ready to go for this three round Co-Main Event bout! The betting lines give a slight edge to Ardan Kelly, but I’m on the fence on this one. I can see it going either way.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I would possibly give the edge to Lake Reese, given his level of experience opponents he’s faced. The referee for this bout is Jordan Ripley, who checks off with each man and now calls for the bell! And here we go!

OG_RD1.png

[The bell announces the first round and right off the bat Lake Reese is dancing away from his opponent, refusing to engage.  The two circle the cage for a few moments before Reese finally springs into action, tying Kelly up with a double underhook. Right away the Irishman tries to shrug free from Reese’s grasp but Lake manages to pummel through and maintain position. Looking for an opening, Reese fires off a knee to Ardan’s right thigh but Kelly manages to block the attempt, responding with a flurry of punches that don’t really connect but do force Reese to push his opponent away and break from the clinch.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Good control in the opening moments by Lake Reese, and he does well to avoid taking any real damage from the flurry of blows thrown by Ardan Kelly.

[As Kelly steps toward him, Lake Reese launches a high kick that just grazes Ardan’s head but it doesn’t seem to hurt him. The kick is followed up by a big looping right hand but the Scrapyard fighter leans back and avoids it, responding with a stiff job that seems to stagger Reese. Swarming, Kelly looks to capitalize but Reese instinctively responds by shooting in toward Kellys right leg, looking for a takedown. Kelly stuffs the attempt, however, and counters with a precise shot to the body but Lake Reese just gets his arm back in time to block the blow. Reese continues to look to take the fight to the ground but Ardan won’t budge and it forces Reese to pull guard.]

PATRICK CARSON

Good defense of that takedown attempt after dazing Lake Reese there for a moment. Now the fight goes into Ardan’s wheelhouse. We’ll see how Lake Reese can hold up.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

He’s no slouch on the ground and while he might not have the advanced skills that Ardan Kelly does, he can certainly defend himself well enough.

[With Ardan Kelly fighting from Reese’s closed guard, the two begin trying to one up the other on the ground. Reese tries to roll but Kelly stifles him. Ardan tries to improve his position but Reese’s guard proves to be rock solid. Neither fighter seems to be threatening the other in any way, though Reese does seem to be breathing a bit heavily. The lack of action forces referee Jordan Ripley to stand both fighters back up. Once the fight resumes, Reese finds an opening in Kelly’s defense and connects with a solid strike. It’s a wonderful lead to give him the chance to put Kelly into a troublesome thai clinch successfully, and from there Reese unloads a series of hooks and body shots that land. Kelly stumbles backward but Reese chases him down and continues the rain of blows. Ardan works hard to try and break free from the thai clinch, trying to shove Reese away but it’s to no avail. As he works to break free he leaves himself open for a stunning attempt at a rear naked choke. Reese isn’t able to find purchase, however, as Ardan ducks under the attempt and finally manages to push Reese away.]

PATRICK CARSON

Ardan Kelly looks outclasses in the clinch and you can hear Reese’s corner screaming for him to keep applying the pressure, to keep tying him up.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

It looked for a moment like Lake Reese had him on the ropes but just wasn’t quite able to finish him off. But here we go again!

[Reese manages to momentarily tie Kelly up in a clinch again and the two jostle for position and control before Lake pushes his opponent away. As they break, Reese launches a stiff jab that barely hits Kelly’s face but oh no! It looks like he’s caught Ardan Kelly with a finger to the eye and the referee saw it.]

PATRICK CARSON

Tough break there. It doesn’t look like Jordan Ripley is taking a point away but it does give Kelly a moment to collect himself and get his emotions and breathing back under control.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Just when Lake was really starting to find a bit of a rhythm too. We’ll see if the pause has any effect.

[When the fight resumes, Kelly fires off a middle kick that just misses. In response, Reese fires off a body kick of his own but Ardan blocks it cleanly. It’s just enough of a distraction for Reese to jump on the opening, grabbing Kelly by the waist and using his momentum to drag him down to the canvas with a great takedown. From open guard Reese throws some body shots that force Ardan Kelly to cover up. He then tries to jump to side mount from open guard but Kelly shows off his tremendous skills on the ground and uses Reese’s momentum to roll him through, claiming the advantageous position in side control for himself with a wonderful reversal!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Wow! It was just that easy for Ardan Kelly to flip the script on Lake Reese.

[Quickly, Ardan positions himself and works to slide his leg across, moving to full mount. Reese shows off his own talent, however, and forces Kelly back to side control in order to maintain his advantage. Knowing that the round must be nearing its conclusion, Kelly isolates Reese’s left arm looking to submit him with an arm bar but Lake manages to sit up and pull his arm out of danger. Looking to counter with Kelly having given up his dominant position, Reese tries throws a few hammer punches to Ardan Kelly’s ribs but they are to no avail as Kelly blocks them. As they near the thirty second mark left in the round the referee forces both men to stand back up due to lack of activity.]

[When the fight resumes Reese fakes a move and then moves laterally. Kelly closes the distance and the two engage in a wild exchange of punches that sees Reese take the best of the exchange as time winds closer and closer to the end of the first round. Reese throws a few good leg kicks but Kelly defends them with ease and then launches a liver kick of his own, however Reese blocks the kick well. Looking to end the round in control, Reese pushes forward and tries to grapple with his opponent but Kelly keeps his distance and slips free of Lake Reese’s grasp just as the buzzer sounds.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A little bit of an uneventful first round, though we were able to see some good wrestling and jiu jitsu on display. Lake Reese seemed to be the one pushing the action more, however, and I think that will give him the advantage on the scorecard. I’ve got this first round 10-9, but it’s close. How about you, Patrick?

PATRICK CARSON

It really depends on what the judges value. Are they going to give Lake Reese credit for being the more aggressive of the two fighters and scoring the big takedown? Or will they score it for Ardan Kelly because of that beautiful reversal and how well he stuffed those first few takedown attempts by his opponent? I think it’s likely 10-9 in favor of Lake Reese but an argument could be made for The Angel to be up.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

It looks like we’re about to get things back under way, so quickly Patrick how do you see this second round going.

PATRICK CARSON

If you’re in Lake Reese’s corner you want him to control the fight in the clinch and batter Ardan Kelly from there. But if you’re Ardan Kelly you’re fine with the fight going to the ground if Lake wants to take it there. Reese was already looking a little bit tired and breathing heavily, so I’m going to expect Ardan to begin to assert himself and really apply the pressure now.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Alright well both men look ready to go and Jordan Ripley has just checked with both of them so lets get back to the action.

OG_RD2.png

[As soon as the second round begins Ardan Kelly is on the hunt, grabbing Reese by the waist and immediately taking him down to the mat. Reese tries to close his guard down around The Angel but is unable to do so. Looking to improve his position, Kelly moves with lightning speed but as he does so his head collides with Reese’s. Ripley misses the headbutt, though, and the action continues. Looking to catch Reese off guard, Ardan Kelly tries to finish the fight with a leg lock but Lake is able to break free of the hold. Continuing to work, Kelly pushes Lake Reese against the fence and then tries to improve his position, jumping to free his leg. Reese doesn’t allow it to happen but Ardan is able to get to half guard. More and more Kelly works to improve his position and is able to pass Reese’s guard for a moment before Reese sees an opening and traps Kelly back in his full guard.]

PATRICK CARSON

A minute has gone by and so far this round has been all Ardan Kelly. Even so, it hasn’t amounted to much.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Not in the damage department but Kelly is fully in control of what is going on and he’s forcing Lake Reese to expend an immense amount of energy. It’s like a boa constrictor slowly wrapping itself around you, squeezing the life out of you a little bit more with each passing second.

[Reese looks to cool the fight down from the bottom before looking to hammer punch Kelly’s ribs. Ardan manages to block those but Jordan Ripley has seen little enough activity to bring the fight back to the stand up once more, something the fans applaud even though the decision may have been a bit hasty. It seems to be a good decision, however, as when the action resumes the two fighters exchange wildly, but neither manage to connect.  Reese fakes a punch and tries to engage Kelly in the clinch but Kelly counters with a few jabs to keep Reese at bay, backpedaling as he does so. Lake throws a nice low kick but Kelly stops it and responds with a liver kick that connects and boy can you see the pain radiating in Reese’s face!]

PATRICK CARSON

OH! Liver kick! There’s nothing in the world that feels as awful as one of those does and you can see that Lake Reese isn’t enjoying it at all.

[Sensing the opening, Kelly looks to bring the fight to the ground and does so successfully. In one fluid motion he tries to put the fight to bed with a leg lock but Reese is aware enough of what is going on that he’s able to defend and break the lock before any real damage can be done. Showing off his own ability with submissions, Reese switches to high guard, looking to sink in a triangle and it appears that he might have it! Kelly’s face begins to turn red from the choke but he just manages to slip his head free of the lock before Reese could get it fully sunk in.]

[Kelly goes back to trying to improve his position, working from guard to half guard and eventually to side control. The two continue to struggle, looking for any opening that might be present in the others defenses. Finally, Ardan spots one and slips his leg across the torso of Lake Reese, finding his way to full mount. Reese throws a punch defensively but Kelly catches it and quickly looks for an armbar. He works for a few moments and the armbar looks deep. The fans around the building begin to get to their feet, expecting Jordan Ripley to wave the fight to its conclusion the moment that Lake Reese taps. Reese, however, manages to find some source of strength deep within him and breaks free from the lock, pushing Kelly away before scrambling back to his feet. The referee then halts the fight to bring Ardan Kelly back up to his feet as well.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

What heart by Lake Reese! Ardan Kelly had that armbar locked in deep and Reese managed to break free of it. Impressive stuff!

[Back standing once more the two exchange wildly and this time it’s the Irishman who lands a few strikes, the last one grazing Reese’s cheek as he backs away. For whatever reason instead of looking for the clinch that had been so effective in the first round, Reese looks to take Kelly back down with a sweep single but Ardan shrugs off the takedown attempt and counters with a violent low kick that pops loudly. Again, Reese looks for a takedown but it appears Ardan Kelly is built strong as an oak, and he doesn’t budge, forcing Lake to pull guard once more.]

PATRICK CARSON

I’m not sure about this strategy. You don’t want to be on the ground with a guy like Ardan, even if you’ve managed to avoid paying too severe of a penalty for it up to this point in the fight.

[From closed guard, Kelly tries to improve his position by sitting on his knees to break the closed guard. After faking a few punches he slips a leg free and gets to half guard. Reese looks for an opportunity to work from the bottom and tries to apply an armbar. Expertly, Ardan spins out but Reese was prepared for that and quickly switches to a triangle choke but Ardan is just too good on the ground and manages to back out of danger. Not expecting Kelly to be aggressive, Reese is caught by surprise when Kelly jumps his guard. Again Ardan looks to put the fight away with a leg lock but Reese breaks it no problem. Reese struggles to keep Kelly under control but it's to no avail as deep into the second round Kelly looks for a kneebar but the round comes to its conclusion before anything can come of the attempt.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Unlike the first, I think this round was fully in Ardan Kelly’s favor. He controlled the fight on the ground. He landed a few significant strikes and overall just took away Lake Reese’s advantage in the clinch.

PATRICK CARSON

I completely agree and you have to wonder if it’s a conditioning thing for Lake. On a number of occasions we’ve seen him breathing deeply and trying to find opportunities to regain some of the energy he’s expended. It’ll be interesting to see what the judges scorecards look like if it goes that far because right now I think we’re staring at a fight that's gone one round a piece for these two men.

OG_RD3.png

[Right off the bat again it’s Ardan Kelly who is the aggressor for the second consecutive round. This time he shoots in and latches onto Lake’s left leg, driving forward and eventually taking him down to the mat. From side control Kelly blocks a few of the defensive punches thrown his way by Smooth Lake Reese. Kelly tries to take advantage of the opening, looking to pass to full mount but reese smartly scrambles back to his feet with a frustrated Ardan following him up in near lock step.]

PATRICK CARSON

Good work getting back to his feet as giving up that sort of position could have been quite costly on the scorecards for Lake Reese.

[As though trying to one up Kelly, Reese shoots in for a double leg takedown but Kelly sprawls nicely and the two scramble back to their feet. A bit of anything you can do I can do better game ensues as Ardan immediately looks for a double leg takedown of his own and he scores with it, lifting Reese off his feet, driving him down to the canvas. Importantly, though, Reese manages to pull Kelly into his guard as this happen.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

What a takedown by Ardan Kelly. You can see the impact really drive the oxygen out of Lake Reese’s lungs.

PATRICK CARSON

But Lake did a good job keeping Kelly on lockdown, pulling him into his guard.

[From the canvas the two continue to battle for control and position, with Ardan eventually getting to half guard while Reese throws light punches that don’t do much to bother the Irishman. It’s clear that Kelly is looking to keep the fight from stalling out and when Lake provides him even the slightest open, Ardan makes a move to get to side control. Reese is unable to keep him from freeing his leg and once more Kelly finds himself in a relatively dominant position. But as he gets there for a few moments the fight does stall out and Jordan Ripley is quick to stand the two men back up and while the crowd is happy with the decision the look on Ardan Kelly’s face is not one of happiness with the referee’s decision.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Ohhh, The Angel has a devilish look on his face. He’s not happy with Jordan Ripley’s decision to stand the fight back up.

PATRICK CARSON

I think he might have a fair argument but you’ve got to understand who is officiating your fight. Jordan Ripley wants constant action on the ground and if you aren’t giving it to him he’s going to stand you back up.

[In spite of Ripley standing the two fighters back up, as soon as the action commences once more, Lake Reese looks to bring the fight back down to the canvas but is stuffed once more by his opponent, forcing Reese to pull guard in a deja vu like scenario. After some struggle, Kelly springs from Reese’s guard and into side control once more. After getting a bit too aggressive in trying to escape, Reese leaves an opening for Kelly to slide his leg across and get to full mount once more. But even from that dominant position there isn’t much action as Kelly doesn’t seem to be able to fully unlock the puzzle that is Lake Reese’s defense on the ground, and so Ripley yet again stands both men back up.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

You can see the frustration really beginning to show itself in the Angels face. He’s shown he can get to a dominant position on the ground but he just hasn’t been able to make anything of it.

PATRICK CARSON

And part of that is Jordan Ripley and how quickly he stands fighters back up. But part of it has to be a credit to the 9th World camp and their preparation for the sort of fighter that Ardan Kelly is. Lake Reese is well prepared to protect and guard himself on the ground.

[As the fight engages once more the two exchange but miss pretty badly until Lake again looks for a takedown only to be denied. A hook to the body from Reese is dodged by Ardan and then Kelly avoids an attempt to put him in the clinch as well. Picking up the aggression, Reese fires off a well timed uppercut but Ardan blocks it and responds with an inside leg kick that connects with a loud snap. Reacting, Reese shoots for a takedown and again is denied. Pressing the action further, Reese throws a nice low kick that Ardan stops and then responds with a solid low kick that echoes around the building with a loud pop.]

PATRICK CARSON

Nice kick from Ardan that will make Reese thing twice about coming fo-OH LOOK AT THIS! I THINK HE’S GOT HIM, HARPY!

[Desperation begins to set in as Reese springs forward and latches on to Kellys right arm, looking for a kimura. And it seems he might have it as he rolls through, bringing Ardan Kelly down to the mat but he just can’t keep control of Kelly’s body and Ardan manages to escape and scramble back to his feet. Reese follows suit and takes a step back away from his opponent, studying him and looking for a hole in his defense. His corner implores him to finish the fight and so he steps forward and engages with Ardan but Ardan is the one who gets the best of it, landing with a few punches. Reese then fakes a punch and shows off some footwork stepping to the side before looking to land a hook to the body. It doesn’t find its mark, however, as Ardan avoids it and looks to counter but before he can the buzzer sounds and brings the fight to its close.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A few moments of excitement there toward the end but all in all a rather slow round. Who you giving this one to, Patrick?

PATRICK CARSON

Yeah, a bit of a let down really but I think it goes to Ardan simply based on the two takedowns he scored and how easily he was able to get to a dominant position. He never really made anything of that position but getting there will count for something in the judges eyes.

[The crowd cheers on both fighters as this fight comes to an end. Doctors tend to both men for a while and after they finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Looks like the scores are in. Lets go to Mike Dempsey for the result.

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, after three rounds, we go to the judges’ scorecards. All three judges have cored it 29-27, for your winner by unanimous decision, Ardan “The Angel” Kelly!

[The crowd cheers once again as Kelly has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

I CAN FEEL IT COMING IN THE AIR TONIGHT, OH LORD

AND I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT FOR ALL MY LIFE, OH LORD

CAN YOU FEEL IT COMING IN THE AIR TONIGHT, OH LORD, OH LORD

[“In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins slowly builds over the loudspeaker and soon Travis Decker emerges to the stage wearing his black and red walkout fight kit with corner crew members following behind. Decker looks focused, but also pays his respects to the crowd as he heads down to the cage.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Travis Decker makes his way toward the octagon now and you take one look at him and you can clearly see he’s been looking forward for this rematch for a very long time.

PATRICK CARSON

If you all recall, Decker’s first encounter with Zion Momo’a ended with a very controversial split decision at UGP 13 that went in favor of Momo’a. Just about everybody, including Zion himself, agreed that Decker should have won that fight.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

It’s one of those old sayings in the sport, “don’t let it go to the judges”. We’ve seen a number of bad calls within the last year, and Decker fell victim to one during the Middleweight Grand Prix. Since then, Decker went on a solid three fight win streak before falling to Aries Reed at Boss Fight XV.

PATRICK CARSON

His loss to Momo’a cost him a shot at the Middleweight Title, and a lot of people were saying that had he beat Aries Reed, he would have earned a title shot. It seems like he’s “this close” to cracking that next level, only to stumble back. I think he’s got it in his mind if he can walk out of this one victorious, he puts his name right back in there for the next contender at the championship.

[Once Travis makes it to cageside, he strips down to his trunks and gets inspected by the fight official to ensure he’s fit to fight and all safety precautions are met. Once he’s been cleared, he gives a quick fist bump to each of his corner mates and makes his way up the steps and stomps into the cage, giving out a loud battle cry before taking his corner.]

NIGGAS BEEN COUNTING ME OUT

I'M COUNTING MY BULLETS

I'M LOADING MY CLIPS

I'M WRITING DOWN NAMES

["Middle Child” by J. Cole bumps over the loudspeaker and Zion Momo’a emerges to the stage wearing his black and blue walkout fight kit with crew members from his camp following behind. Momo’a bobs his head to the music as he slowly makes the walk to the cage.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And now for our final walkout of the night, “The Blasian Buzzsaw” Zion Momo’a is here and this crowd is on their feet for the hometown hero! Zion comes in tonight with some momentum behind him, having scored a first-round finish against the debuting Josiah Euphrates at Boss Fight XV. However, it's going to take a lot to get his name elevated to title contention, given that he lost two of his last three.

PATRICK CARSON

To say it's been a wild ride for Zion Momo’a to get to this point would be an understatement. He was discovered by Union GP President Dante Reed during a charity event, where he demolished fellow Union Middleweight Jeremiah Ford. He then competed in two promotions simultaneously, having mixed success in both against some of the industry's top talent. You mentioned he's coming into this fight losing two of his last three, but don't forget those two losses came at the hands of Robert Guilliman and Aries Reed, arguably two of the best in the world right now.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

No arguments here. And just to throw it out there, his third loss? Cosmo Cooper. So I'll agree that yes, he's going to need to deliver an impeccable performance tonight, and maybe even add another to put himself in that discussion for title contention, but no one should discredit what he's already accomplished so far in his early career.

[Zion makes it to cageside where he strips down to his gear and gets checked by the fight official. Once he's been cleared, he jogs up the steps and explodes with a huge leap into the cage. Momo’a makes a b-line to his corner, where he leans into the fence a few times to hype himself up.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Main Event of the evening! Sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission, our three judges scoring this contest at cageside are Miranda Franco, Max Carver, and Ozzie Sebastian, and when the action begins, our referee in charge in the octagon is Willie Green. AND NOW, this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The following contest is scheduled for five rounds in the Union Grand Prix Middleweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 4-4. He stands 6’2” and weighing in at 185 pounds. He is from Chicago, Illinois, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, he is “Ripcord” Travis Decker!

[Travis Decker glares at his opponent from the opposite corner.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 5-3. He stands 6’ even and weighing in at 185 pounds. He is from Los Angeles, California, fighting out of the 36th Street MMA, he is “The Blasian Buzzsaw” Zion Momo’a!

[Zion Momo'a glares at his opponent from the opposite corner.]

PATRICK CARSON

This is it, Harpy! It's these guys’ chance to put the controversy behind them and see who the better man is.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Both of these men look ready to leave it all out there, Patrick. The betting line gives Decker the edge in this one, but these guys now know what to expect from each other, so you can toss the odds out of the window. Our referee looks ready to get this one going, so let's toss to over to the action inside the octagon!

OG_RD1.png

[Momo'a and Decker move forward as the bell signals the beginning of the fight. Both men touch gloves in the center of the cage and quickly engage in a wild exchange of punches! Momo'a is getting the best of the exchange as he lands a few blows before circling out. Momo’a looks to be avoiding any action, but really just baits Decker in to throw a brilliant combination. Decker, however, reads it well and shows off his dodging skills. Travis then rushes in and slows the pace with double underhooks.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Great start out of the gates for Travis Decker, tagging Momo'a before controlling him with the clinch.

[Zion doesn't look like he wants to stay in the clinch and tries to shrug his way out, but Decker holds on tight and pummels through to stay locked in. Zion continues to try and break free but doesn’t get much success. He then tries to control Decker in the clinch and use some dirty boxing. Momo'a pushes the back of Decker's head with one hand and punches his head a few times with the other! Decker pushes away to avoid any further damage, but Momo’a is now controlling the clinch. Zion switches to the body and softens up the ribs, connecting with some heavy hands. He scores a few hits before the pain makes Decker react and defend his side. Decker pushes Momo'a back, trying to keep the fight at striking range. Momo'a stumbles backwards and Decker circles to get to the center of the cage.]

PATRICK CARSON

Momo'a quickly turning the tide inside the clinch with some great dirty boxing. He kept Decker guessing, working the head and body, and forced him to break from the clinch.

[Momo'a slowly circles into his opponent to get close to striking range. He feints a low kick before switching targets and lands a superb body kick! Zion Momo'a fakes a move and moves laterally. Good movement from Momo'a who is bobbing and weaving.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Zion Momo’a looking fresh out there. You can tell he’s trained hard for this fight.

PATRICK CARSON

He’s put on about ten pounds of muscle recently, and you see a lot of times guys who do that will lose a step in their agility. But it appears Zion has done it the right way and looks as quick as ever out there.

[Some nice shots from Zion Momo'a miss their mark and Decker is trying to counter now. Decker throws a low kick that doesn’t have the greatest technique but it still finds Momo'a's thigh. Momo’a retaliates with a high kick that just grazes Decker's head, but he seems okay. Zion then throws a bunch of leg kicks that look like they are bothering his opponent. He finishes off with a body kick but it gets blocked by Decker. Momo'a steps away from Travis and he seems to be cooling down the fight a bit now.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

The Blasian Buzzsaw unloading with the kicks here and Decker doesn't seem to know how to defend them.

[Both fighters close the distance and a punch from Momo'a just grazes Decker's right cheek. Decker quickly changes levels and shoots a single leg and plants Zion to the mat. Decker lands in side mount over Momo'a. Zion attempts to trap Decker in his guard but Decker keeps control and remains in side mount. Travis hooks Momo'a's right leg and sits back for a kneebar! Momo'a manages to kick Decker away and scrambles on top!]

PATRICK CARSON

Decker takes this one to the mat and this is where he can really take control of this fight. Zion Momo'a will surely want to work his way out and get back to his feet.

[Momo'a is in open guard over Decker but quickly moves to side mount. Zion now looks to mount Decker. He slides his knee across and gets to full mount! Momo'a tries to keep his position while looking to maybe begin some ground and pound. Zion is able to control the situation despite Travis Decker’s efforts to escape. Decker tries to roll to his side and trap Momo'a in his guard, then moves to half guard. Momo'a tries to pass Decker's guard. He manages to get his leg free and moves back to side mount.]

[Travis Decker attempts to trap Zion in his guard but Zion keeps control and remains in side mount. Momo'a tries to move to full mount now but Decker won't allow him to take this position so easily. Momo’a continues to work on the ground and eventually gets to full mount! Decker tries to escape from the full mount position but Momo'a reads it well and moves to side mount to keep his superior position. The referee separates the fighters as the buzzer sounds, and instructs them to head back to their corners.]

PATRICK CARSON

I would be surprised if the judges didn't see that round for Momo'a. Not a whole lot of action, but I think Momo’a pushed the pace.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A bit of a feeler round in my opinion. However I don’t think anyone will argue that this goes to Momo’a, albeit a slight edge. I expect these two to start rolling out their offense here in the second.

OG_RD2.png

[The second round opens up and both men close the distance. Decker quickly moves in with a sweep single leg takedown, but Momo’a was ready for it and sprawls back to keep his legs free. Decker tries a few times to get inside, but Momo’a throws a low kick each time that doesn't connect but maintains some distance. Decker returns a low kick that only hits air and then Momo’a counters with a low kick that connects with a loud pop. After the exchange,  the two fighters step back to regroup.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Momo'a opens up the second round with the kicking game and is able to keep the distance.

PATRICK CARSON

Smart move to keep Decker at bay with any takedown attempts and keep this fight standing, where Momo'a holds the advantage.

[Both men circle back and forth for a few moments until they come in swinging wildly. Both fighters are missing terribly and Decker decides to slip out of danger by faking a move and moving laterally. Decker and Momo'a circle around the center of the cage before Decker launches a body shot. Momo'a dodges it and catches him with a hard cross! Decker tries to circle out, but Momo’a cuts him off and launched a solid front kick! Decker stumbles backwards after eating that kick!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Travis Decker is in a tough spot here, Pat! Momo'a is rolling with the strikes now!

[Momo'a looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Decker's punches and Momo'a is on the receiving end of a great combo by Decker there. Zion backs away for just a moment before rushing back in with several solid body shots and finishing it off with a stinging low kick to Decker’s right leg. Zion feels he's got Travis guessing here and launches a big high kick! Decker ducks it at the right time and Momo'a slips and falls to the mat!]

PATRICK CARSON

Uh oh! A tight back and forth between Momo'a and Decker ends with a mistep from Momo'a who's on the ground.

[Decker is standing while Momo'a is on the ground on his back. Before Decker can start to work in any offense in this position, Momo’a springs back up to his feet. With both fighters standing now, Decker tries several times to get inside, but Momo'a fires a low kick every time to keep the distance. Momo'a takes a few seconds to recover his breath as he circles away. Decker tries to cut him off, but Momo’a fires a stiff jab that just grazes Decker's left cheek.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Looks like these guys might be slowing the pace down a bit.

PATRICK CARSON

It’s not a terrible strategy, especially when you got five rounds staring at you.

[Decker steps forward and Momo'a feints a move to stop Decker. Momo'a and Decker circle around to the center of the cage. Inside leg kick from Momo'a lands on Travis Decker's leg. He follows it up with a brilliant combination that forces Decker to try and defend better. Zion goes back with a low kick, but he doesn’t use great technique and Decker is smart enough to block it. Decker once again tries to move inside but Momo’a keeps him at bay throwing a low kick that just hit air. Decker fires one back that misses its target and finally the buzzer sounds. Willie Green tells the fighters to go to their corners as the round is over.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Another strategic round for both fighters out there. You can tell these guys are showing a ton of respect for each other and have been somewhat hesitant to unleash any damaging offense.

PATRICK CARSON

I agree with you there, Harpy. However, I’d still give this one to Momo’a. Like round one, he didn’t run away with it, but he continued to push the pace and land a few kicks and punches to keep Decker guessing. I’m sure Travis’ corner is going to want him to start taking shots and get his game plan going. This is a pivotal round for this fight for both fighters.

OG_RD3.png

[Third round opens and without hesitation, Momo'a throws a low kick that gets blocked by Decker. The two step into each other and begin to exchange wild punches and it looks like Momo'a is connecting with a few more than Decker. Both fighters eventually back off and circle around to the center of the cage.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A little more aggression on display here to start the third. I think they’re both aware that it’s time to kick it up a notch.

[Zion Momo'a launches a low kick that almost wrenches Decker's knee! Decker circles away to avoid any further damage and it appears he may be limping a bit. Momo'a closes the distance with his opponent and launches another furious low kick that connects on Decker’s right leg! Another lightning fast low kick from Momo'a connects with a loud pop! Momo’a continues to work on Decker’s legs now and they are clearly bothering him. Momo'a fakes a move and launches a nice uppercut that lands clean on Decker's chin! The frightening power of Zion Momo'a has left Decker sleeping peacefully on the canvas and Willie Green rushes in to call off the fight!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

BOOM! And this one is all over! Zion Momo’a puts all the doubts and criticism to rest with a perfectly timed uppercut!

PATRICK CARSON

Zion Momo’a executed a great strategy here! Focusing on the legs, doing a lot of damage and then getting Decker to lower his arms for the knockout uppercut. A superb game plan for The Blasian Buzzsaw!

[The crowd explodes into cheers and Zion is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Decker for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Willie Green has called for a stop in this fight at one minute forty-seven seconds in the third round, for your winner by knockout, “The Blasian Buzzsaw” Zion Momo’a!

[The crowd cheers once again as Momo’a has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]
