CAGESIDE

WITH DYLAN CARTER

[Cut to Dylan Carter backstage, armed with her microphone. The camera dollies back to reveal the heavyweight fighter standing to her right. He’s wearing a black suit, no tie, with the collar open.]

DYLAN CARTER
I’m standing here with Ivan Arlovski, member of TIDE of BLOOD fight team. Anyone in the grappling world will of course know him as a Sambo Master in Russia. He also has competed in and won the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Championship. But his days of grappling are over because he is transitioning into the world of Mixed Martial Arts, as he will be making his professional debut at UGP 10.

[She turns and cranes her neck back to look up at him and meet his eyes.]

DYLAN CARTER
After achieving so much success in Sambo and Jiu Jitsu, what made you decide to make the jump into mixed martial arts?

[Arlovski smiles. When he speaks, it’s with a thick Russian accent.]

IVAN ARLOVSKI
First of all, I do not consider my grappling days behind me as I am sure I will have to do plenty of it in the cage. But to answer your question, now is time. Every moment of my life lead me here to this place, to this opportunity, where I will test myself against the best fighters in the world.

DYLAN CARTER
Was it always your plan to transition to mma?

IVAN ARLOVSKI
Always, and there is no better base for MMA than Sambo. No other technique offers you best skill set to dominate any opponent both on feet or on ground. Once I achieved all the success in Sambo and Jiu Jitsu, I knew it was time to begin the next phase of my professional career. And so I have been training full time for two years with the best striking coaches in the world at TIDE of BLOOD. Coach Colm and Master Tong have given me so much boxing and muay thai training. They have made me true mixed martial artist.

DYLAN CARTER
I mentioned that you are a member of TIDE of BLOOD. Your teammate, Reno Nevada, is making his own debut tonight in a fight against Travis Decker. Have you and Reno been training together?

IVAN ARLOVSKI
A little. Reno trains mostly in the Boston gym. I’m living in Albuquerque. But he’s come down to New Mexico several times over the last year and we have done some work together. He has shared many insights when it comes to striking and I’ve demonstrated a few Sambo techniques to him. He’s very good fighter. Great fists. Smart. Agile.

DYLAN CARTER
I’m sure you’re going to pick your teammate to win tonight.

[He laughs.]

IVAN ARLOVSKI
Of course!

DYLAN CARTER
How do you see Reno winning?

IVAN ARLOVSKI
Easy. Knock out. First round.

[She turns back to the camera.]

DYLAN CARTER
You heard it. Back to you guys at Cageside.

RUN IT BACK

WITH DYLAN CARTER

[The camera cuts to an interview recorded earlier in the day, Savannah Skye standing by in the foyer of the Nippon Gaishi Hall with a man who will be competing that night, Travis Decker. Savannah smiles before speaking.]

SAVANNAH SKYE
Ladies and gentlemen, my guest at this time, making his debut tonight on the undercard of Boss Fight Eight, “Ripcord” Travis Decker. Travis, thank you for making the time today.

[Travis gives a warm smile.]

TRAVIS DECKER
No problem at all, Savannah. I was coming in anyway to get a lay of the land before tonight’s fight, so I had no reason not to.

SAVANNAH SKYE
Speaking of tonight, it is a known fact that this is not just your debut for Union Grand Prix, but your debut fight in general. How are you feeling going against a man who has been in the cage a number of times in Reno Nevada? Do you feel like your lack of experience is going to be a factor?

[Travis mulls the question over for a second.]

TRAVIS DECKER
I mean of course it is. Experience is a huge advantage in anything in life, and MMA is no different. I said at UGP 9 that I’ve been working my way to this point for awhile now, but all of my training can only get me so far. I know I’m the underdog coming into tonight, I know that no one gives me a snowball's chance in hell in this fight, and on paper I don't blame them. But I didn't train my ass off for years to get to this point to step into the cage and embarrass myself. Besides, experience is a two way street. What people fail to realise is besides the odd training clip, no one outside of my trainers have any real idea of how I fight. They’ve got info, sure, but as this is my first fight there are no tapes to watch, no preparation you can do. Reno’s gonna go out there and try to punch my head off, besides that he just has to wait and see.

SAVANNAH SKYE
Speaking of Reno, he has certainly been… vocal, in the lead up to your fight, even before that in fact. How do the mind games affect you, in your opinion? Like you said this is your first fight and social media can play a factor mentally.

[Travis smirks.]

TRAVIS DECKER
“Vocal” is one word for it, Savannah. Like I told Reno, I get what he’s doing. Rile me up, get me angry, I make a mistake, it’s lights out. Tale as old as time. To answer your question, they affect me in the reverse way: his words have fired me up, made me even more determined. Reno is not the first person to tell me I’m not good enough, and many who have done so did it far more convincingly than he did. He thinks this is gonna be easy, he thinks he’s already won. Good. It gives me a better chance to walk away with my first win. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done my homework. Reno is a good fighter, and those hands are no joke, but I know what I have to do. Go out there, prove the world wrong, and put him down.

And if I can’t, if he backs up his words and knocks me out? I’ll pick myself up and get ready for the next fight. I am not going to quit, I am not going anywhere. Dante Reed has taken a chance on me here, and I am going to do everything I can to make it count. This is my dream, and win or lose it is going to take more than a loudmouth like Reno Nevada to take it away from me.

[Savannah gives an understanding nod.]

SAVANNAH SKYE
Well one thing is for sure, the fight is sure to be an explosive one. Thank you for your time Travis, and good luck tonight.

TRAVIS DECKER
Thank you Savannah, much appreciated.

[With that the camera cuts away.]

A NEW ERA

WITH DANTE REED

[The lights in the arena dim down and a video package begins to play on the big screen at the top of the entrance. Showing some of the biggest moments in Union Grand Prix's short existence, it finishes with a close up shot of the current championship belt. Then it slowly fades out and a newly designed title appears, marking a new identity to the ever growing MMA promotion. The cameras cut to cageside, where Dante Reed stands cageside holding the newly designed championship belt across his shoulder as the crowd roars with excitement. BACKSTAGE

WITH SAVANNAH SKYE

SAVANNAH SKYE

I am here right now with one of the newest acquisitions to the Union Grand Prix Heavyweight Division, Tommy 'Thunder' Ward.  How are you doing tonight?

TOMMY WARD

I'm great thank you.  It's an honor to be here tonight for this wonderful show in Japan, on my 28th birthday!

SAVANNAH SKYE

Well happy birthday!

TOMMY WARD

Thank you.

[Tommy smiles and shakes Savannah's hand.]

SAVANNAH SKYE

So, you are a known regional boxer in the amateur ranks around the New England area.  What brought you to Union Grand Prix?

TOMMY WARD

Well, I guess you can say I want to try out all of my skills.  You see, my Father, had me in Jiu-Jitsu from a very young age, and I received my black belt at the age of 17.  It's natural for me to want to test all my abilities.

SAVANNAH SKYE

Are you looking at anybody in particular for your debut?

TOMMY WARD

I would love to fight Bobbi London.  She seems to be ready for a return to the cage, and I'm ready for my debut.  It's a stretch though cause I don't want people to think I'm trying to 'jump the line'.  I'm just looking for the best competition.

SAVANNAH SKYE

Well Bobbi London would be in that category.

[Tommy laughs.]

TOMMY WARD

Yes, she would.

[Tommy shakes Savannah's hand one more time effectively ending the interview.]

LIGHTS OUT

YOU’RE TALKING TOO LOUD

SO JUST SHUT YOUR MOUTH

WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU NOW

[“Lights Out” by Hollywood Undead blares over the loudspeaker and Seth Daniels pops out of the curtain and onto the stage wearing his green and black walkout fight kit with his crew following behind. As Daniels walks down the aisle, his villainous behavior is gone, only showing a stern and focused look.]

PATRICK CARSON

And now as we prepare to get this Co-Main Event bout started, the first man to the octagon is the silent assassin Seth Daniels. Daniels was one of the first initial competitors to sign on with Union Grand Prix. He entered the inaugural Cruiserweight Championship Tournament, and made it all the way to the finals, where he fell short against Daniel Fisk. Since then, he’s been on a slump, losing three in a row.

NORA BAUER

Give him some credit, two of those three losses came at the hands of Daniel Fisk, and the third from Viktor Volkov, all of whom have either won or competed in title fights. Daniels is a dangerous striker and has shown his capabilities in all of his fights. The Cruiserweight Division has become split with a handful of ‘day one’ fighters, and the rest new faces trying to start the climb. I think if Daniels can pull off a win here tonight, it’ll put him right back in the title contention discussions. But he’s got to handle a mountain of a man first!

CAN’T YOU SEE I’M EASILY BOTHERED BY PERSISTENCE

ONE STEP FROM LASHING OUT AT YOU

YOU WANT IN TO GET UNDER MY SKIN

AND CALL YOURSELF A FRIEND

I’VE GOT MORE FRIENDS LIKE YOU

WHAT DO I DO?

[“Respect” by Pantera shreds over the loudspeaker and “The Reaver” Jakko Wirman emerges to the stage wearing his blue and black walkout fight kit with crew members from his camp following behind. Wirman has a focused stare in his eyes as he makes his way down the ramp. He makes it to cageside where he is inspected by the fight official to ensure he is fit to fight and legal for action. Once cleared, he climbs up the steps and calmly takes his place in his corner.]

PATRICK CARSON

And here comes that mountain man, the Finnish Phenom Jakko Wirman. The Reaver is coming off a loss to Viktor Volkov, and like you mentioned Nora, a win for Wirman could also put Jakko in that title fight discussion.

NORA BAUER

These two match up really well with similar styles standing up. However, Wirman has the obvious size advantage, as he usually has to cut around twenty plus pounds to make weight. Daniels has the speed advantage in this one, but Wirman absolutely has the size and strength advantage, and is leaps and bounds more advanced on the ground. It’ll all boil down to who can execute their game plan in this one.

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Co-Main Event of the evening! The following contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Cruiserweight Division! Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Kickboxer holding a Union GP record of 2-3. He stands 6’2” and weighing in at 225 pounds. From Phoenix, Arizona fighting out of Throne MMA, he is “Your Drug of Choice” Seth Daniels!

[Seth Daniels is beating himself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking himself in the face, body and legs to get ready for this battle.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the re corner, a Kickboxer disciplined in Sambo and Judo holding a Union GP record of 2-1. He stands 6’4” and weighing in at 225 pounds. From Helsinki, Finland, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, he is “The Reaver” Jakko Wirman!

[Wirman steps out from his corner and raises both arms in the air as the crowd cheers him on. He looks at the ground while he does his calming exercises. He looks calm but knows he has a tough fight coming up.]

NORA BAUER

Looking at these two stand toe-to-toe, Wirman looks like he replenished back to his usual 240 walking weight and just towers over Seth Daniels. Wirman on paper looks to check all the boxes in his favor, but Daniels has a good six years of experience on The Reaver and that is invaluable. 54% of the fans that took our social media poll believe that the veteran Seth Daniels finally gets back on track and scores a win here tonight.

PATRICK CARSON

Not a staggering difference in the polls, which shows that anything can happen in this fight. Our referee for this Co-Main Event bout is Jordan Ripley. He checks off with each man one last time and calls for the bell! And here we go!

RG_round1.png

[Wirman and Daniels move forward as the bell signals the beginning of the fight! Daniels shoots a takedown but Wirman hops back and delivers a powerful kick to his head! Daniels' forehead is bruised and cut after that punishing blow to start the fight. As the fight continues it seems that Jakko is taking the best of the fight. The two step in and exchange wildly, both landing but without much steam behind the shots. Daniels fires a series of low kicks, punishing Wirman's legs repeatedly.]

PATRICK CARSON

Jakko Wirman rocks Daniels right off the rip with that brutal kick to the head, but Daniels has recovered and tries to chop the big man down a peg with some solid leg kicks.

[Daniels avoids a dangerous strike from Wirman and counters with a solid straight! Wirman jumps in and tries some clinching in order to control the fight. Well done. Wirman is clinching with Daniels now. Daniels doesn't want to clinch as he ducks under Wirman and tries to move away. Jakko pushes Daniels forward and doesn't allow him to break the clinch. Both fighters stay tied in a clinch. Wirman gets himself into good position and looks to change levels for the takedown. Wirman gets hold of a leg and trips Daniels to the mat!]

NORA BAUER

Wirman takes the fight to the ground. Great move to take the fight to a phase that we all know he excels at over Daniels.

[Jakko is in closed guard over Daniels. Jakko looks to pass Daniels' guard but Daniels has a solid grip and keeps his ankles locked tight. Wirman tries to improve his position on the ground as he sits on his knees and tries to break the closed guard. Jakko fakes a few punches and then slips one leg to get the half mount! Wirman shows no signs of slowing down. He's in great shape. Wirman tries to free his other leg now. He uses his skillset by jumping out of Daniels' guard. He moves quickly to side mount!]

PATRICK CARSON

Jakko Wirman pummels his way to find better some positioning now. Let’s see what he can do with it.

[Jakko Wirman is in side mount over Seth Daniels now. Jakko isolates Daniels' arm and neck looking for an arm triangle but Daniels is able to relieve the pressure on his neck and slips out of the hold. Daniels launches a few punches to Wirman's cheek from the guard. Wirman uses his head to cover the punches and presses his skull forward. Daniels misses a step and Jakko sees an opportunity to counter! Jakko looks to mount Daniels. He slides his knee across and gets to full mount.]

[Daniels launches a few punches to Wirman's cheek from the guard. Those punches sure are annoying because Wirman tries to cover his face. Daniels tries to roll to his side and trap Jakko in his guard. Daniels gets his hip out and moves to full guard. Daniels measures the resilience of Wirman's ribs with a couple of big punches from guard. Those hits are leaving hitches in Wirman's side. Wirman pummels his way through and moves to full mount! He catches Daniels' left arm and tries a kimura! Daniels holds his own arm and struggles until he gets free.]

NORA BAUER

Wirman and Daniels are going back and forth on the ground here. Looks like Daniels is holding his own pretty well so far with the bigger man on top.

[Wirman tries to keep his position while looking to try some ground and pound, and Daniels struggles and pushes his opponent maybe a bit anxiously. Jakko isolates Daniels' arm and neck looking for another arm triangle! Daniels is able to relieve the pressure on his neck and slip out of the hold once again. Jakko gets sloppy and Daniels tries to take advantage. Daniels tries to move on the ground and escape from the full mount! He successfully moves to half guard!]

[Wirman launches a few fake punches and tries to escape! Daniels is not able to stop him and Jakko moves to side mount! Jakko goes for a key lock but Daniels breaks free. Jordan Ripley decides to stand the fighters up due to a lack of activity. Both fighters continue the fight on their feet. You can hear how the people agree with that decision.]

PATRICK CARSON

Back on their feet now, where anything can happen between these two kickboxers!

[Good front kick from Wirman, Daniels stumbles backwards after that one! Another front kick knocks Daniels off balance. Nice punch thrown by Jakko Wirman that nearly tags Daniels. Jakko throws a brutal looking high kick and Daniels narrowly dodges! Daniels fires back with a looping left hand that lands on Wirman's chin! That stops Wirman in his tracks! There is a small cut on Wirman's right eye now. Wirman shoots in for a single leg and uses his brute force to take Daniels down to the mat.]

[Jakko Wirman is in side mount over Seth Daniels. Daniels attempts to trap Jakko in his guard and manages to switch to full guard. Wirman tries to escape from the closed guard but doesn’t make any progress. The two fighters jockey for position back and forth until the buzzer sounds, marking the end of the round. The ref tells the fighters to go to their corner.]

PATRICK CARSON

Solid first round here by both men. Jakko Wirman was the more aggressive fighter out there, but Daniels picked his spots and used them very effectively.

NORA BAUER

Too close to call in my book here. One of these guys needs to assert themselves a little more in the second to separate themselves on the scorecards. We’ve seen some bad calls made by the judges in the past, it’s best not to leave it to them.

RG_round2.png

[The second round opens up, and Daniels looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Jakko Wirman's punches. Wirman is on the receiving end of a great combo by Daniels. Jakko changes levels and shoots a single leg takedown and catches Daniels off guard and goes down to the mat. Jakko is in side mount over Daniels. Daniels measures the resilience of Wirman's ribs with a couple of big punches from guard. Those hits are leaving hitches in Wirman's side. Jakko looks to move to full mount but Daniels sees an opening and locks his opponent in half guard.]

PATRICK CARSON

Back on the ground to open up the second round, and again Seth Daniels is holding his own on the ground. This is not a good look for the Finland fighter.

[Wirman shifts to north-south position and tries to finish with a lock! Daniels pushes Jakko forward against his back and breaks the lock! Daniels tries to pass Wirman's guard, he manages to get his leg free and moves to half guard. Daniels slides his knee across and achieves the full mount position! Tough spot for Jakko Wirman. Seth Daniels traps Jakko Wirman’s arms and starts throwing down elbows! He's tearing up Wirman's face with those brutal shots! Wirman needs to do something! The referee is threatening to stop it! Daniels continues the onslaught and the ref pulls Seth Daniels off! Wirman seems confused and a bit dazed as the fight is called off!]

PATRICK CARSON

That’s it! It’s all over! Seth Daniels finishes the fight off with some textbook ground and pound and finally chalks one up in the win column!

[The crowd bursts into cheers as Seth Daniels celebrates with his corner crew. Doctors tend to Wirman for a few moments to check on his condition. Once he’s been cleared, he rises to his feet with an obvious look of confusion and disappointment on his face. The two men eventually meet back in the center of the octagon for the official ruling.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Jordan Ripley has called for a stop in this fight at 1 minute 48 seconds of the secondround, for your winner by technical knockout, “Your Drug of Choice” Seth Daniels!

[The crowd explodes once more as Daniels has his hand raised in victory. Daniels and Wirman shake hands and say a few words before splitting off to their respective corner crews. A graphic pops up to highlight the fight while the commentators recap.]

PATRICK CARSON

You know, coming into the fight we all thought that these two were evenly matched standing up and Jakko Wirman held the advantage on the ground, but Seth Daniels just made believers out of all of us here tonight and finally gets back on the right track.

NORA BAUER

A much needed win for the Throne MMA fighter, who stops the three fight losing skid and gets back to .500. I only can thank Seth Daniels and Jakko Wirman for an unforgettable fight here tonight!

[As “Red Light” by Future plays throughout the arena, Zari Aliyah slowly makes her way out while shadow boxing with her corner crew following close behind. Aliyah doesn’t show much emotion as she makes it to cageside and gets checked by the bout official. Once cleared, she races up the steps and heads straight to her corner, bobbing and weaving along the way. When Aliyah enters the cage the arena is about to explode! She knows for sure that the fans are with her tonight.]

PATRICK CARSON

Coming to the cage now, Zari Aliyah is making her second Boss Fight main event appearance, and I’m sure she’s looking for a different results. She comes in tonight off a main event loss to Misty DeMeans back at Boss Fight VI, where she suffered a first round KO loss to the outspoken HILITE Fighter. Aliyah has become somewhat of an ambassador for Union Grand Prix, spreading awareness of the adversities that the black community routinely faces.

NORA BAUER

It’s certainly a nice breath of fresh air to see someone using their platform for good once in a while. Zari has done a lot of community work, where she recently held a fundraiser to help combat the Flint Water Crisis that unfortunately is still a major issue. But right now, in this moment, Zari has another issue to worry about, and that is the Throne MMA product she’s about to face. Zari will need to utilize her striking range and great conditioning to keep the fight standing up. IF she can manage that, she will have a great chance here tonight.

I’LL TAKE YOU TO THE CANDY SHOP

I’LL LET YOU LICK THE LOLLIPOP

GO ‘HEAD GIRL DON’T YOU STOP

KEEP GOING ‘TIL YOU HIT THE SPOT, WHOA

["Candy Shop" by The Baseballs plays over the loudspeaker and Saffron Harris emerges to the stage wearing her purple and white walkout fight kit with crew members from her camp following behind. Harris looks calm and focused, almost cracking a slight grin as she heads down to the cage. She makes it to cageside where she is checked up on by the fight official. Once cleared, she climbs up the steps and jogs her way over to her corner.]

PATRICK CARSON

And now for the final walkout of the night, the Throne MMA fighter Saffron Harris has arrived! Harris comes in tonight off an impressive first round submission victory over Ellis Belrose at UGP 8. Harris and Aliyah have very different fighting styles, so it’s going to be fun to watch and see who can execute their game plan.

NORA BAUER

We mentioned how Aliyah is an excellent stand up striker, particularly with her kicks. For Harris, she can stand up and trade punches, but her big focus is on the ground, where she likes to work on submissions. Saffron with either need to stay in tight against Zari and work those hands, or take the fight to the ground and do what she does best.

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Main Event of the evening! The following contest is scheduled for five rounds in the Union Grand Prix Lightweight Division! Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Muay Thai kickboxer holding a Union GP record of 1-1. She stands 5’7” and weighing in at 119 pounds, from West Harlem, New York, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, she is “Zealous” Zari Aliyah!

[Zari Aliyah is beating herself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking herself in the face, body and legs to get ready for his scrap as the crowd erupts into cheers for her. She looks like she has been waiting for this fight forever.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And her opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Boxer and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler holding a Union GP record of 2-1. She stands at 5’5” and weighing in at 130 pounds. She is from Fayetteville, Arkansas, fighting out of Throne MMA, she is Saffron Harris!

[Saffron Harris looks like she has been waiting for this fight forever. She looks at the ground while she does her breathing exercises.]

NORA BAUER

We’re just moments away for this big main event fight here in Nagoya, Japan! It sounds like the crowd is heavily behind Zari, but it’s closer than you think. 52% of the fans that took our social media poll believe that Saffron Harris takes the win here tonight.

PATRICK CARSON

It’s definitely a close call. Both of these fighters are peaking towards their prime years in the sport, but there is still a lot of unknown factors that we are about to get a little more clarity on. Our referee for this main event fight is Dusty Whittaker. He’s checking off with each fighter one last time here and now calls for the bell! And this fight is underway!

RG_round1.png

[The bell announces the first round! Both fighters touch gloves in the center of the cage to get this one started. Zari Aliyah comes in with a vicious middle kick! Saffron Harris dodges that one and moves backwards. Saffron circles forward, looking for a hole in her opponent's defense. Harris launches a stiff jab! That barely hits Aliyah's face but it seems like one finger has poked her eye! Dusty Whittaker halts the fight to give Aliyah time to recover. After a few moments, Zari Aliyah seems to be ready to fight again. The fight resumes with both fighters standing.]

PATRICK CARSON

An inadvertent eye poke stops this fight, but it looks like Zari is okay and the fight resumes.

NORA BAUER

I don’t believe Harris did that intentionally, it’s just not in her DNA.

[Both fighters circles around looking for angles. Aliyah decides to launch some tentative punches. Harris fires back a couple of jabs that are answered by Aliyah with a stiff cross! Solid exchange here! It looks like there is a small cut under Zari’s left eye. The two circle around some more before they both step in and exchange wildly. Both are landing but without much steam behind the shots. Good leg kicks from Zari Aliyah to switch things up and Harris winces a bit.]

[You can see in Zari Aliyah’s eyes that she wants this win. She unleashes a brutal high kick that connects and Saffron Harris’ lip is beginning to swell. Saffron Harris swings and lands a hard impact right hook to the side of Aliyah's face! Zari answers back with a solid combination that connects cleans with Harris. Aliyah circles around and looks for angles as she throws a few jabs that are countered by Saffron Harris' jabs. Aliyah winds backs and connects with an uppercut on Harris' chin while Harris fires back with some great crosses!]

PATRICK CARSON

Great exchange here to open up the round. It looks like Saffron isn’t afraid to stand up and trade blows with Zari Aliyah.

NORA BAUER

If you want to make a name for yourself in this sport, you cannot be afraid to go where the fight takes you. Harris is working a solid counter game right now.

[Aliyah launches a furious low kick and it looks like Harris may have hyperextended her knee! Aliyah throws another low kick, but switches targets and lands a superb body kick! That hard blow drills Harris in the ribs and she winces in pain. Zari launches an inside leg kick to Harris’ injured knee. She ducks back to avoid a dangerous strike from Harris and counters with a solid straight! You can hear the excitement from the crowd as they grow louder with cheers for both fighters. Harris looks for angles as she throws a few jabs that are countered by Zari Aliyah's punches and both fighters are wildly hitting the air now!]

PATRICK CARSON

These fighters need to control themselves and not allow the crowd’s reaction to dictate their game plan.

NORA BAUER

You’re exactly right, Patrick. You want to win the fight first and foremost. The fanfare is just a byproduct.

[Saffron and Zari circle their way back to the center of the octagon. Both fighters move side to side, looking for angles in their opponent’s defense. Zari feints a front kick to Harris’ injured knee and launches a brutal looking switch kick that lands clean on Harris’ temple! You could hear the impact from the back seats! Down goes Harris! She’s out cold! That phenomenal knockout throws the crowd into pandemonium as Zari is rushes by her corner crew!]

PATRICK CARSON

Oh my god! It’s all over! Zari Aliyah lands a beautiful switch kick to end this one in the first round!

NORA BAUER

She set it up perfectly. She faked that kick to the knee and drew Saffron’s attention away from keeping her guard up. That left her wide open for that textbook switch kick and that’s all she wrote! Incredible!

[The crowd goes wild as Aliyah celebrates her victory with her corner crew. Doctors tend to Harris for a few moments before helping her back up to her feet. After doctors and cutmen finish their work, the two fighters meet back in the middle of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Dusty Whittaker has called for a stop in this fight at 2 minutes 35 seconds of the very first round for your winner by knockout, “Zealous” Zari Aliyah!

[Aliyah has her hand raised in victory and both fighters embrace with a handshake and a hug while they say a few words to each other. The crowd splits off into dueling chants for both fighters before each woman splits off to each other’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

PATRICK CARSON

Amazing strategy by Zari Aliyah here in this fight. This is one she was really looking forward too to try and get herself back on the right track.

NORA BAUER

She pulled through from that early eye poke to execute a near flawless game plan and finished this fight off in spectacular fashion. But you also have to give Saffron Harris a ton of respect in this one. She was standing up well before hyperextending her knee. She had some absorbing moments and contributed to the excitement of this fight, but I think she may have focused a little too much on protecting herself there. Hopefully she’s okay and it’s nothing serious.

PATRICK CARSON

Folks, that’s all we have here tonight. A big night here in Japan as we witnessed so many great fighters continue to hone their craft and climb the rankings of Union Grand Prix. Three monumental title fights have already been announced and there is much more to come. For Nora Bauer, I’m Patrick Carson, goodnight everybody!
