[The opening montage comes to a close and the feed transitions inside the United Center. Rabid fans pack the building, where many have immersed themselves into the pandemonium and roar out with deafening cheers. With the uncertainty of victory or defeat looming, the aura is both intoxicating and tense.]

[The main stage, where the fighters scheduled tonight make their presence known, is littered with carnage and destruction. A heavy fog sits stale, scaffolding strung in multiple directions, and the overall structure glowing red with fire, ash, and embers; something no fighter will soon forget. The toll on both fan and fighter is enormous. The stage of a bloody war is set. The conquerors envision nothing but execution towards success, while the meek is flooded with doubt.]

[Down in the trenches, Bodie Sullivan and Jason Jackson stand in attention to officially kick off the night.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Ladies and gentlemen, we are live exclusively on the Battleground Network here at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois and this is UGP 25! Bodie Sullivan here standing alongside one of the inaugural inductees to the new Union Grand Prix Hall of Fame, the legendary Jason Jackson! JJ, it’s always an absolute pleasure to be calling the fights with you.

JASON JACKSON

Pleasure to be here Bodie! You know I can’t pass up a chance to watch these fights from the best seats in the house. Now, I know you’re wondering why I’m wearing sunglasses indoors….at night, and I’ll tell you. I’m just a tad bit hungover from celebrating with the other inductees last night so just bear with me while I wait for the tylenol to kick in.

BODIE SULLIVAN

You wear your sunglasses at night?

JASON JACKSON

Something like that, yeah.

BODIE SULLIVAN

I’ve heard that the sun never sets on a bad ass, so I won’t argue with you. Tonight is a landmark event for Union Grand Prix. The twenty-fifth super card for the promotion and we are gifted with two title fights. But before we get to that, the undercard is filled with a new wave, a new generation of fighters. Several Everest graduates are fighting tonight. We’ve already witnessed during the prelims, Lilly Dunne and Abbie Peterson secure victories in their Union GP debuts, and we kick off the main card with Gianna Howard and Blue Barrera, two Everest alumnus, squaring off in a Bantamweight bout.

JASON JACKSON

Both women are looking to prove that the move up to the big time was the right call. Last time Blue made the jump, it didn’t go so well, but then again she was outweighed, outclassed, and shit out of luck against another Hall of Fame inductee, Daniel Fisk in a fight that many believe should’ve never been approved by the commission.  Maybe “Bullet” can silence the critics here tonight and get her career back on track with a win. Standing in her way is a former champion, and well… a ghost. Gianna Howard is a kickboxing extraordinaire, with some of the best head movement and foot movement in the division, which makes her hard to land cleanly on. I’m looking forward to this one.

BODIE SULLIVAN

After that we stay in the Bantamweight Division as we have Isabel Azevedo and Tim Vu square off. Azevedo has been impressive in her two Union GP fights. In her last fight, she put away Kelsi Morrow, a very respected and skilled fighter, while scoring a Performance of the Night bonus along with it. On the other side, Tim Vu makes his third appearance in Union GP after a short stint in the Openweight Championship Grand Prix. This is a classic clash of styles fight — Grappler versus Striker, and one that has big implications in the rankings.

JASON JACKSON

Big implications indeed. If Tim Vu or Izzy Azvedo want a crack at the Bantamweight Champion in the near future, then that road converges right here and uce?  Only one can continue on the path. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE, BODIE! Listen, call me crazy but I think we could be seeing a possible fight of the night war here if they are able to negate each other. It’s all about who executes the game plan better. This one is a coin flip, honestly. Great matchup by the matchmakers.

BODIE SULLIVAN

Great matchup indeed, no tune-up fights here in Union. From there we move onto our lone Cruiserweight bout of the night. Michael Santos and Wenzel Kautz both sit inside the top five and look to climb into the discussion of who will be the next contender to face Roscoe Robinson for the Championship. For me, I feel like Kautz has the shorter path to that opportunity. A win over Santos would give him that big signature win needed to validate a title shot, while Santos has challenged for the title once already and will likely need to string several wins together in order to get to that pecking order. What say you, Jason?

JASON JACKSON

I know how it feels to be focused on that goal of earning  the call to fight the champion. I also know it’s a huge stress factor, because you owe it to your camp and your fans to deliver. The pressure is on Kautz here, but Mike Santos wants another crack at Roscoe himself. Couple that with his one punch KO power and you have the formula for an all out dogfight between these two. Only one moves on though, who’s it going to be, and furthermore, do they have what it takes to proceed onward to dethrone the King of the Cruiserweights? Tonight will be a good indicator.

BODIE SULLIVAN

And from there, we move into the Co-Main Event of the evening, the first Interim Title fight in Union GP history as Natalie King takes on Yasmine Vermeulem. Jason, I love this fight on paper. Both of these fighters are deserving of a title shot. Even though Natalie King has fought Delaney Donovan twice and come up short both times, she’s done everything possible to get back in the discussion. Since her last fight with Donovan, she’s defeated Sofia King, Byron McCall, and Zari Aliyah all within the first round. On the other side of the coin, Yasmine Vermeulen last fought at UGP 21 after taking down Xabier Belazco and many felt like she’d be next in line for a title shot. Then came Double D moving up to Middleweight and winning the title in the 2020 Fight of the Year against Robert Guilliman. Donovan said he planned on defending both titles for as long as held them, and wanted to defend the Middleweight Title next. This Interim Title fight will guarantee the winner the next crack at Delaney while also getting a little extra padding on their pay stub.

JASON JACKSON

On Paper? Shiiiit, I love this fight altogether. Two established strikers coming in here with dreams of becoming a champion. This has all the makings for complete fireworks, as both ladies are going to be treating us all to a striking clinic. I know that the “interim” title isn’t enough, though, especially for Nat. That belt will feel like an imposter belt until she gets the chance to step in there with Delaney again and right the wrongs to make it legit.

BODIE SULLIVAN

It’s certainly a fight that will make the winner undeniable. And now we move on to the Main Event of the night. Daniel Fisk Jr. takes on Cal McCluskey to see who will be crowned the inaugural Openweight Champion. If you look at the Vegas odds, Fisk is an absolutely huge favorite to win, but at this point, can anyone really count out Cal McCluskey? The guy has done the impossible; taking down Robert Guilliman and Donnie Calabrese, two former Union GP Champions, to get here tonight. Not only that, but former champions that are a part of the 2020 Gym of the Year Real Killas MMA. Can Cal complete the trifecta, defeating the ultimate Real Killa Boss to hold the gold?

JASON JACKSON

I don’t think so. But we will see. I didn’t think he stood a snowball’s chance in hell against Rob or Donnie and he surprised me. It’s proof that the sun shines on a dog’s ass twice a day or whatever. It’s MMA, anything can happen…. But if Cal doesn’t come into this fight taking it seriously? It’s going to be a short night. Can he do it again? Or will .44 give Cal the Blue Barerra treatment?

BODIE SULLIVAN

All of those questions will be answered here tonight. But now, let’s turn it over to our very own hype man, Mike Dempsey, who’s standing inside the octagon ready to rock. Ladies and gentlemen, IT’S BOUT TIME!

JASON JACKSON
LETS GOOOOOOOO!! I got the Chilly willies dawg. I’m super hype. Take it away Mike.

UGP25_4-Howard-vs-Barrera.png

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, we are live exclusively on the Battleground Network here at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois for UGP 25! And now, this opening contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 2-2. She stands 5’7”, and weighing in at 135 pounds. She is from Kansas City, Missouri, fighting out of the 9th World Performance Institute, presenting “Bullet” Blue Barrera!

[Blue Barrera is beating herself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking herself in the face, body and legs to get ready for this bout.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

We’re kicking the main card off here in Chi-Town with two Everest MMA graduates. The highly controversial Blue Barrera has been a headline-maker since she went pro, albeit one that hasn’t been on the positive side. Be as it may, Barrera has shown some toughness and grit in her four fights. However, that trait can only take you so far, and right now she needs to start racking up wins in order to justify her trash talk game.

JASON JACKSON

If I’m being honest, I was a bit controversial too at one point in my career. The difference being that I was able to back it up in the cage. At this point Bodie, Blue Barrera has proved to have a lot of bark and very little bite. I think she’s got the ability to turn that around  though, I mean  she’s got tremendous heart, and toughness like you stated.  I think if she can stop trying to be edgy on social media and apply that dedication that she has to trolling people to training? She could be a force man. We’ll see through, because she has a VERY real test in front of her tonight and twitter fingers won’t help you against a  ghost.

MIKE DEMPSEY

And her opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 3-1. She stands 5’6”, and weighing in at 135 pounds. She is from Las Vegas, Nevada, fighting out of Throne MMA, presenting the former Everest MMA Strawweight Champion, “The Ghost” Gianna Howard!

[Gianna Howard looks very relaxed in her corner as she sways from side to side with her head tilted toward the ground.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Let me tell you, JJ, Gianna Howard is a star in the making. She possesses such an incredible skill set in every aspect of the fight game, and has proven she can keep a high tempo in the later rounds. In Everest, she was cutting a lot of weight to make that 115 pound limit, and tonight she looks so much better, both physically and mentally. Although her final fight in eMMA was a loss to Elliot McMillan in which she also lost the Strawweight Title, you have to believe that is fuel for the fire in this contest as she looks to get back in the win column and get a win in her Union GP debut.

JASON JACKSON

It was ironic how she was defeated as well.  McMillan landed a low kick in the third round, which is the  same exact way and round that she won the title from Lilly Dunne at Everest // Vegas, and the same way she beat Jan Matsuda in her debut fight in Denver. Both of these women have cardio for days, but I think that Gianna uses her evasiveness and pin-point striking to get it done here tonight.

BODIE SULLIVAN

Leg kicks have become a much more utilized and focused strategy in mixed martial arts, which really it’s smart. Chop the legs and the weight of the fighter alone becomes an issue. But now we are all set and ready to shift this night into gear. Our referee in charge for this bout is the seasoned veteran, Herschel Warden. He checks off with each fighter and calls for the bell! And here we go!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The fight gets underway and Barrera comes out swinging right away! A stiff right hand down the pipe lands, and backs Gianna up quickly. Blue goes on the chase, but Gianna makes her think twice about her actions by landing a nasty leg kick to her calf that goes unchecked. Barrera continues pushing forward though, and checks a second follow up inside leg kick by “The Ghost.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

No feeling out process with these two. Gianna and Blue firing out of the gates.

JASON JACKSON
Nice check on that kick by Bullet. After feeling that first one land she doesn’t want anything to do with that shit.

[Howard circles out and Blue steps into the center of the cage to taunt the former Everest Champ, telling her to come and trade shots with her. Another low kick digs into Blue’s thigh, and the 9th World fighter tries to fire off a front kick in quick retaliation but the kick is blocked away by Howard. This triggers the first real exchange of the night, as the two begin throwing wildly in the center of the cage. Both are landing cleanly, but they are mostly fast punches that don't carry much steam behind the shots. That is until Blue Barrera dips under a wild punch and lands a vicious hook to the body of Howard.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Great exchange here and Blue lands a brutal hook to soften up Gianna’s ribs.

JASON JACKSON
Man, that one will take the wind out of your sails.

[To add insult to injury here, a follow up roundhouse kick from Gianna Howard misses badly, causing her to slip and fall to the canvas. Blue postures over her, looking to improve her position without getting up-kicked, but Gianna uses the hesitation to muscle herself back to a standing position and disengage with another barrage of leg kicks on the escape. The kicks are checked, and the fighters disengage completely for a moment to size each other up in the center of the cage. Gianna feints a punch to close the distance, before throwing another low kick that is blocked. This triggers Blue to kick off another wild exchange in the center of the cage, with both women landing some clean, quick punches in close. The fans are on their feet cheering for the display the two women are putting on. It’s fast paced, intense action from the first bell.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Oh my god, Gianna and Blue are rattling off some devastating shots right now! This fight could end at any moment!

[Blue decides to take a page out of Gianna’s handbook, and fires off an oblique kick but Gianna is able to avoid the kick and wags her finger at her. Blue doesn’t like this, and she begins mouthing off as she uncorks a volley of thunderous strikes at Howard. “The Ghost” blocks and parries all the punches with utter confidence, coming out of the barrage unscathed.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

There’s that evasiveness you talked about Jason. Gianna Howard is on point right now.

JASON JACKSON
Yeah Bodie, It’s hard to hit a ghost. Better call the mothafuckin’ ghostbusters, uce.

[Gianna circles out and the two of them regroup in the center of the cage.  Another low kick is fired off by Gianna Howard to maintain the distance, but it’s miles away from landing. Howard throws a lead left hook, right low kick combo as she closes the distance, but Blue sees them coming and blocks both shots. The impact backs Barrera  up, and Howard closes the distance with a nasty liver kick that is narrowly avoided.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And now Blue Barrera showing off some quick movement avoiding those big shots thrown her way.

[The ten second warning prompts Gianna to move forward and she launches another low kick-body kick combo that Blue blocks with ease. Blue looks to catch Howard off guard with a last minute spinning back kick but Howard ducks under and gets ready to launch a counter hook when the ref steps in to call an end to the round.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Exciting first round for both of these young prospects. Both Gianna and Blue showed they are more than willing to stand in the pocket and trade. This was too close for me to confidently call, how’d you see it, JJ?

JASON JACKSON
I agree. That was a super close round. I have to give it up to Howard though. She is abusing the legs of Blue Barrera. I lost count of how many leg kicks she landed in that round. That could be a real issue once that bruising starts in the latter part of the second and third round. Looks like we’re ready for the start of the second. Listen to these fans. They are fired UP.

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[The second round gets under way and Blue looks like she can fight all night. Clearly she is a cardio machine! Barrera fires off a body kick to open the action, and Gianna jumps back quickly to make her whiff at the air. Howard launches forward with a well-aimed oblique kick to counter, and Blue’s knee seems to hyperextend, causing her to bambi leg and stumble backwards with a grimace. Gianna fakes a punch and shows some smooth footwork moving inside again to follow up with another furious inside leg kick to the affected leg that forms a welt almost immediately. Blue stays stone faced though, and both women circle the center of the cage looking for an opening.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Gianna Howard goes to the well with those perfectly timed leg kicks and has Barrera slowing down.

JASON JACKSON
And it’s only going to get worse. The longer she has to stand in this fight, and put pressure on that leg? It’s not going to get any easier at all. She needs to take this fight to the ground, or put a spectacular end to it now. Blue cannot go 3 rounds eating leg kicks like this.

[Howard launches another low kick that lands flush, chewing up the leg of Barrera. Blue answers by jabbing at Howard to close the distance, before landing a beautiful combo to the body and head of the former Everest champion. Blue tees off, and Gianna Howard’s ribs are getting hammered! A Bone shattering straight left hand from Blue Barrera sends Howard reeling! Barrera goes on the pursuit, and Howard is waiting with a hard jab, followed by a crisp uppercut that rocks Blue Barrera!! “Bullet” goes on the back pedal, trying to clear the cobwebs, and Gianna tries to capitalize with a lethal body kick. Blue is able to get her arm down to block the kick but the SMACK echoes through the arena and the crowd goes nuts!!]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Listen to the power behind those kicks, JJ! Even when Blue blocks them, she’s still feeling the aftermath.

JASON JACKSON
I’m just glad I’m not on the receiving end of those. SHEEEEEESH. That one left a welt on her ARM! Barrera needs to find a solution to this Ghost problem. She needs to hit her with that Exorcism punch.

[Gianna stalks forward, faking a punch and showing some studious footwork moving inside. “The Ghost” decides to let her hands go at the request of her corner, and she launches some tentative punches from inside the phone booth with “Bullet” Barrera.  Blue answers back, and Gianna takes the best of a brief punching exchange, taking off her combo with another laser guided leg kick.  Barrera can no longer hide the pain on her face as the kick connects, and the camera gets a shot of her bruised and battered leg.]

JASON JACKSON
Nasty. That leg is fuckin’ gnarly, uce.

BODIE SULLIVAN

Blue Barrera is trying to fight her way back, but it’s clear that she’s taking a lot of damage to the leg that Gianna continues to target.

JASON JACKSON
Smart girl. If she ain’t checking them, why not? Right? Believe it or not, a damaged leg like that can reduce your punching power, takedown defense, obviously your footwork…. Blue is literally becoming the one legged chick in an asskicking contest. It’s not looking good.

[Gianna cuts off the cage as Blue tries to escape, and she traps her against the cage to fire off an artillery barrage of consecutive leg kicks to “chop down the tree” that is Blue Barrera's legs.  Blue has had enough, and she tries for a desperation body kick, but it’s blocked easily. This causes a bit of panic for the inexperienced “Bullet” and she disengages completely and goes on the retreat, limping backwards toward her corner as the ten second warning is heard.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Man I don’t know how much longer Blue Barrera is gonna last. She can’t even hide the pain anymore, she’s gonna be an easy target from here on out.

[Howard stalks forward like a cat playing with her meal, and she barely avoids a dangerous strike from Blue who swings for the fences with an overhand right. Once Blue’s hand wizzes past her head, Gianna responds with a nasty counter right hand that swells up Blue’s orbital area almost immediately. Blue turtles up against the fence and Gianna lands another Nasty low kick just before the ref steps in to save Barrera at the horn signalling the end of the round.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Gianna Howard finishes this round strong and clearly goes in her favor. Blue Barrera is gritty, but I don’t see this one going the distance unless something drastic happens.

JASON JACKSON
Round one was a toss up, but round two? No question. Dominant performance by Gianna Howard. I don’t think Barrera is going to make it out of this next round if she doesn’t do SOMETHING about those kicks.

=========================================

ROUND THREE

=========================================

[We start the third and final round and Blue Barrera is clearly having trouble standing on her injured leg, but she shows heart by coming off the stool to finish the final round. The two meet in the center and Blue opens the action by launching a low kick that is checked quickly, causing even more damage to “Bullet’s” leg. Blue feints a punch, but Howard shows no concern as she steps in with a torpedo of a right hand that finds an opening in the defense of Blue. Shaking off the shot, Barrera circles out and out of nowhere we see her launch a sneaky superman punch! The  punch barely misses as Gianna Howard slips sideways and counters with another NASTY leg kick!]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Barrera is still throwing everything she has, but Gianna is dialed in and picking her apart.

JASON JACKSON
She has tremendous heart. Blue Barrera is tough as hell, but that isn’t enough. She needs to be technical. She needs to find a way to seal the deal in this final round and take this win out from under Gianna Howard. Because at this point? She is losing this fight.

[Howard’s head movement is looking as good as ever here, as she looks for angles, tossing out a few jabs that are countered by Blue Barrera's admirable attempt at a comeback. It looks almost impossible though, because despite her best effort, Blue finds herself on the business side of a great combo by Howard. “Bullet” wipes the blood from her nose with a snarl and she uses everything she has left in the tank to unleash a hail mary overhand right that looks like it is capable of destroying a brick wall! Howard has it scouted though, and she moves forward to close the distance while parrying away the punch to get inside. Howard slows the pace of the fight a bit here,  while she looks for a hole in Barrera's defense to close the show.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Barrera is mailing those punches and Gianna is reading them with ease. If I’m the referee, I’m looking for the slightest give in Blue to stop this. There’s no way she's rallying back now.

JASON JACKSON
Never say never. I’ve seen crazier shit happen.

[Finally the opportunity shows itself and Howard launches a crushing hook to the body of Blue Barrera in close. “Bullet” drops her hands to clutch her ribs, and Gianna uses this moment to “full send” a motherfucker of a straight left hand at Barrera’s head.. Blue BARELY avoids the shot, but she does, and this gets a loud gasp from the crowd as if they just saw someone narrowly avoiding getting hit by a semi. Ducking under the punch, Barrera stumbles out away from the cage as her corner screams at her to get her hands up and look for a takedown.  A beautiful front kick from Howard sends Blue reeling back into the fence, as the former champ stalks her like prey.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Barrera is in survival mode. Only thing left is the pride of finishing this fight. Gianna Howard is putting on a clinic.

JASON JACKSON
WHEWWWWW! She barely avoided that punch. That shot had bad news written all over it. I think Howard is toying with her now. Cat and Mouse. This is wild, yo.

[Blue launches a stiff jab as she recoils from the fence, but Howard ducks that one and answers with a volley of tremendous strikes. Barrera is not backing down though! She shows incredible heart by digging in with her back against the fence and teeing-off. Her corner is screaming at her, telling her to circle out, but she isn’t listening. Gianna and Blue engage in another wild boxing exchange and the roof sounds like it will erupt right off the arena as the fans can sense a finish. Gianna is overwhelming Blue here, who finally stops punching and covers up to try and weather the storm, but she is getting absolutely HAMMERED here and the ref is watching closely! Stepping back suddenly, Gianna fires off the hardest leg kick thrown all night and it lands with a loud POP, crumpling “Bullet’s” leg for good. Gianna draws back to finish Blue off with ground and pound, but Herschel Warden has seen enough! The fight is over! Blue was not intelligently defending herself and can be seen writhing on the canvas in pain as she clutches her mauled leg.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

TIMBER!! And this one is all over! Gianna Howard puts this one away with just seconds remaining. Helluva effort from Barrera, but Gianna ran away with this one in the end.

JASON JACKSON
Yiiiiikes. You hate to see it. The leg kick was the key all fight. I think Gianna has some weird prophetic connection to leg kicks or something. Either way, tally another one up for the GHOST. Welcome to UGP little lady.

[The crowd explodes into cheers as Gianna Howard rushes to her corner to celebrate with her crew. The medics pour into the octagon and tend to Barrera. Eventually Blue gets to her feet and once all of the medical staff finish their work on both fighters, they two meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Herschel Warden has called for a stop in this fight at four minutes thirty-five seconds in the third and final round, declaring your winner by technical knockout, “The Ghost” Gianna Howard!

[The crowd cheers once again as Howard has her hand raised in victory. Both fighters reluctantly shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Taekwondo Striker holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 4-2. He stands 5’9”, and weighing in at 135 pounds. He is from Brisbane, Australia, fighting out of Yongsa Gym, presenting Tim “The Intimidator'' Vu!

[Tim Vu bounces in place to stay warm and gives a slight nod to acknowledge the crowd.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Tim Vu is a man who has competed all over the globe in his six professional fights, but this makes just the third appearance for the Aussie. Vu makes his return to the Bantamweight Division after suffering a quarterfinal round loss to Eamon Wojcik in the Openweight Championship Grand Prix. We really don’t know a whole lot about him, other than the fact he’s willing to take a fight anytime, anywhere, at any weight class. Jason, you feel like fighting in those Openweight bouts will help him here tonight?

JASON JACKSON

Bodie, I feel like fighting in general helps you. The more you fight, the more it becomes muscle memory. The more you fight, the more comfortable that you get in there against… ANYONE. You can’t beat good ol experience. Four and two isn’t a bad record either. Vu is a Tae Kwon Do fighter, so definitely need to watch out for his kicks and close the distance unless you want to get kicked to death like Blue Barerra just did in that last fight.

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 2-0. She stands 5’7”, and weighing in at 135 pounds. She is from Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil, fighting out of Gracie Humaitia, Nova Uniao, presenting “Maravilha” Isabel Azevedo!

[Ferocious staredown by Azevedo while Dusty Whittaker recites the rules.]

JASON JACKSON

Yo, this chick is intense, man. Look at that staredown. I saw Izzy compete at the grappling tournament I was a part of a while back. She has some serious ground skills! Listen, I know Tim Vu has “Brazillian Jiu Jitsu” listed on his resume but you do not want this girl to get ahold of you on the ground, uce. She’s like an anaconda, and will squeeze the life out of you if you make one wrong move. If you couple that with the raw power she possesses and the unlimited cardio? It’s going to be a long night for Tim Vu if he can’t figure out how to stop her early.

BODIE SULLIVAN

No question about it, Jason. As you mentioned, Isabel Azevedo will want to keep the fight close. Tim Vu will want to fight on the perimeter of his striking range, but if Izzy can stay close, work the clinch, and get the fight on the ground, she stands a good chance at taking home the win in this one. But now, we put the speculations to bed as our referee for this contest, Dusty Whittkaer is ready to get this one going. He checks off with each fighter and calls for the bell. And here we go!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[Izzy Azevedo and Tim Vu move forward as the bell signals the beginning of the fight. The fighters size each other up in the center of the cage and show each other a ton of respect. As they circle around, cautiously looking for any openings, Azevdeo strikes first with a straight jab but Vu ducks under and circles out. Azevedo cuts him off and throws a wild punch to the body that lands clean and causes Vu to retaliate with a stinging leg kick. Azevedo tries to catch Vu off balance and shoots in for a takedown, but Vu reads it perfectly and delivers a powerful kick to the head! Azevedo eats the kick and backpedals out to regroup and slow the pace down a bit.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

OH! Tim Vu catches Isabel Azevedo with a nasty head kick and puts her on dream street!

JASON JACKSON
Yeah, she didn’t like that one bit, Bodie. Izzy needs to take this fight to the ground, and quickly, but a telegraphed shot like that is not de wey.

[Tim Vu presses forward and launches a jab. Izzy slips it and counters with a sweep single, but again Vu reads the takedown attempt and sprawls back. Izzy and Tim circle around once more as they read each other before Azevedo grabs an arm, leaps into the air, and wraps her leg around his left shoulder in a flying omoplata attempt!]

JASON JACKSON
AYYYYEEEEE! IT’S A BIRD-- IT’S A PLANE. Izzy just took flight!

BODIE SULLIVAN

Oh my god! Are you kidding me?! Isabel Azevedo just launched herself and went for a flying omoplata! But Vu narrowly slips free!

JASON JACKSON
That’s wild. She said “I don’t need to take you DOWN homie, I’ll choke you out like a spider monkey.”

[The crowd breaks out with gasps from the amazing grappling display, but Izzy can’t fully secure it. Tim Vu cannot help but smile to acknowledge the audacious submission attempt as Azevedo remains on the ground with her opponent standing over her. Izzy periodically fires off up-kicks to keep Vu at bay, some landing hard to the body and one landing flush on the chin, snapping his head backwards due to the impact! Eventually Tim Vu decides to back away, allowing Izzy to stand. Referee Dusty Whittaker halts the fight to stand up Azevedo and then the fight resumes with both fighters standing.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Smart move of Tim Vu to just allow Azevedo back up. You definitely don’t wanna be put on a highlight reel after getting slept from a grounded fighter.

JASON JACKSON
I’d retire if that happened to me.

BODIE SULLIVAN
Jason, you ARE retired.

JASON JACKSON
Oh yeah. I forget that sometimes. Who knows, maybe that will change?

BODIE SULLIVAN

Say what now?

[Both fighters circle around the center of the cage. Izzy throws a punch that misses and Vu counters with an inside leg kick that connects. Azevedo rushes in with a looping right hand while Vu jumps back and jabs. Azevedo only hits air, but she sees an opening and takes Vu to the mat with a body lock takedown.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Solid takedown from Azevedo and now she takes the fight to her realm.

[Azevedo is in open guard over Vu as she controls the ground. She fakes a move and then tries a kneebar! Vu rolls on the ground, trying to get free and after a few kicks of his own he escapes. Dusty Whittaker halts the fight once again to stand up Isabel Azevedo and soon the fight resumes with both fighters standing.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Oooh, Vu nearly got trapped in that kneebar. He’s gonna have to be especially careful on the ground, we’ve clearly already seen what Azevedo is capable of with the submission game.

JASON JACKSON
Yeah, like I said earlier. I watched this girl roll at that jitz tournament and she was super impressive. You definitely want to keep it standing if you’re Tim Vu. Make her fight your fight.

[Both fighters circle around to find their range. Izzy fires off a straight left but Vu steps aside then counters with a vicious head kick! The crowd rumbles with excitement as Izzy backpedals away. Vu rushes in with a stinging combo and Izzy is looking to be in trouble until she changes levels and catches Vu with a double leg takedown. On the way down, Vu manages to pull Azevedo into his guard. Both fighters jockey for control and after a few tentative moves, Izzy jumps to side mount. The two jockey for position some more until Vu creates enough space to scramble back to his feet! Both fighters have climbed to their feet and they continue the fight standing. The spectators here at the United Center cheer for both fighters after a great ground game display.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Isabel Azevedo is starting to get her takedowns in play, but she’s eating some unnecessary strikes. If plans on out-pointing Vu, she needs to do better avoiding those hits.

JASON JACKSON
That’s TWO big head kicks in the first round. I’m impressed that she can eat shots like that, but it’s unnecessary. She needs to find an alternate solution because eventually those shots add up and then you walk around all mush brained like Musty Demeans.

[Before Tim Vu can even figure out what’s happening, Azevedo shoots in again with a double leg takedown. Vu gets taken down but again he’s able to close his guard around Izzy. Both fighters continue to jockey for control, enough for the referee to allow the action to continue. Izzy tries to posture up, but Vu keeps his legs locked in until he feels an opening and rolls to reverse into a top full mount! Izzy launches a few weak punches from the bottom but Vu is able to defend them and keep his position. The two continue to scramble for control, and at one point Tim Vu unintentionally head butts Izzy but the referee doesn't see the foul. Izzy and Tim do just enough to keep the action alive until the buzzer. Dusty Whittaker separates the fighters as the round concludes and somewhat surprisingly the fighters shake hands as they head back to their corners.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Well Jason, this was a back and forth exchange that saw the tides turn several times. Izzy controlled the fight with her grappling and takedowns, but I feel like Tom Vu did some significant damage with those head kicks. It’ll be interesting to see how the judges score this one.

JASON JACKSON
Yeah, that one is hard to call as well. I think I have to give Tim the slight edge. Izzy did some outstanding work, but nothing really came of the takedowns. Tim was able to get back to his feet and neutralize the ground attack for the most part. Izzy needs to take the fight down and KEEP it down to win the next round. That or finish the fight.

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[Tim Vu feels a little urgency after round one and quickly comes out firing a big hook to the body. Azevedo looks for angles as she throws a few jabs that are countered by Tim Vu's punches. Azevedo then tests the resilience of Vu's chin with a big uppercut while Vu lands some great crosses. Here comes Tim Vu with a vicious middle kick that lands hard on Azevedo's ribs! Vu steps forward and fires a head kick!]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Great exchange to open the second round here, but Isabel Azevedo looks hurt out there. She could be in some serious trouble.

[Azevedo avoids a dangerous strike from Vu and fends him off with feel-out punches as she regains her wits. Azevedo studies her opponent looking for a hole in his defense and lands a solid shot to the body. Azevedo sticks and moves backwards and Tim Vu is egging her on, asking her if she came today to fight or run. Good movement from Azevedo who is bobbing and weaving but she misses a step and Tim Vu launches a hook to the body and Azevedo stops that one with her ribs!]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Azevedo seems to be taking one step forward, two steps back right now. Just as she starts to roll with some offense, Tim Vu is right there in her face with the striking.

JASON JACKSON
Yeah, it’s hard to adjust to pressure like that. You have to process things quicker and do your analyzing on the fly because they never let off the gas pedal. Tim Vu is fighting a smart fight here.

[With Izzy still reeling from the body shot, Vu grazes with a head kick and Azevedo looks worried! Vu tacks on a furious leg kick and now Azevedo circles away. Vu doesn’t want to let off the gas so he follows Izzy, which Izzy then feints a punch to open him up for a takedown attempt. Vu, however, sprawls back and stays on his feet. As Izzy gets back to her base, Vu launches a good front kick that causes Azevedo to stumble back from the impact.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Boom. Another big kick from Vu.

JASON JACKSON
Yeah, Izzy is looking a little out of her element here. Her corner needs to try their best to snap her out of this and instill some confidence in their fighter again because the light is fading.

[Azevedo steps away from Tim Vu, seemingly to cool down the fight a bit. Vu studies his opponent looking for a hole in her defense. He fakes a move and launches a liver kick that almost wrenches Isabel Azevedo! Izzy crutches over but quickly shoots for a double leg takedown. Vu sprawls back once again and manages to stay on his feet. Tim Vu goes with a looping right hand off the break while Isabel Azevedo jumps back and jabs. Azevedo seems staggered and Tim Vu runs to capitalize with a bunch of jabs and crosses! Vu and Azevedo engage in a wild exchange of punches now as the crowd roars with cheers!]

JASON JACKSON
Ooooh! That one clipped her hard. She’s on Bambi legs.

BODIE SULLIVAN

This could be it! Tim Vu has rocked Isabel Azevedo but she’s not going down without a fight!

JASON JACKSON
True warrior mentality. She’s not going down without a fight.

[Azevedo backs off from the exchange and Vu, feeling a little confidence boost, taunts her to keep at it. Vu closes in and Izzy tries to bring the fight to the ground but Vu won't budge, forcing Azevedo to pull guard. On the ground, Azevedo throws her legs up in a triangle attempt but Vu senses the danger and stands up to avoid the attack. Vu is standing now while Azevedo is on the ground on her back. Azevedo fires off a few up-kicks to keep Vu at bay. Eventually referee Dusty Whittaker halts the fight to stand Azevedo up. The fight resumes with both fighters standing. With the final seconds ticking away, Isabel Azevedo unloads with a barrage of punches but Vu is able to protect himself before rocking Azevedo with a crispy uppercut. The buzzer sounds and the referee stops the action.]

JASON JACKSON
Nasty Uppercut at the bell!

BODIE SULLIVAN

Valiant effort there at the end for Isabel Azevedo, but this round goes to Tim Vu. He was able to defend the takedowns a lot better and continues to work in his striking.

JASON JACKSON
Yeah, that round was all Tim Vu. He’s ahead on my scorecard at the moment. Izzy really needs to pull a rabbit out of her hat here in the third and get this dub.

=========================================

ROUND THREE

=========================================

[The final round begins and everyone in the building has the sense that this fight could be decided with these final five minutes. Both fighters come out of their corners breathing heavy, but know they have to string it all together. Azevedo fakes a punch to open Vu up and shoots a takedown. Vu gets caught off guard and hits the mat, but is able to close his guard around Izzy. The two jockey for control and Vu is able to roll on the ground and get to a top full mount.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And now Tim Vu is taking command in the ground. This doesn’t look good for Azevedo.

JASON JACKSON
I think that Azevedo is exhausted, Bodie. Deflated even. Her corner didn’t seem to be able to reinvigorate her during the short break between rounds and she looks like she is just over this fight.

[Azevedo tries to escape from the full mount but Vu moves to side mount to keep control. Azevedo makes several attempts to improve her position from the bottom but Tim Vu is able to overpower her and keep his position. Eventually Vu creates enough space for him to slide his knee across and get to full mount.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

You know, Tim Vu really does have some sneaky good Jiu-Jitsu. He looks pretty comfortable right now working on the ground.

JASON JACKSON
Yeah man, I guess he can keep “Jiu Jitsu” on his resume. He’s hanging here with an elite grappler.

[Azevedo continues to try to roll out but Vu knows how to keep his advantage on the ground and now it seems the two are trying to just catch their breath. Vu fakes a few punches and after a brief struggle he catches Azevedo's arm and tries an armbar, but Azevedo holds her own hand and with pure strength she breaks his lock. Izzy then rolls over and gets to a top side mount over Vu. Azevedo is taking this opportunity to rest, but it’s a little too long and Dusty Whittaker steps in to stand the fighters up due to a lack of activity.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Well Izzy was able to reverse and get on top but gets nothing out of it. If we don’t see a wild submission attempt like earlier, Tim Vu May have this one in the bag.

JASON JACKSON
I’m afraid that she is out of steam, uce.

[These two fighters are showing each other a ton of respect as they circle around. Azevedo studies her opponent, looking for a hole in his defense and throws a jab that gets deflected. Vu steps in and the two exchange wildly with Vu connecting more significant strikes. Azevedo pushes Vu away and seems to be recovering her breath.]

JASON JACKSON
Yep. She’s sucking air like a hoover vacuum right now. That girl is tiiiired.

[Azevedo looks to be gassing out, but nevertheless she feints a jab and shoots in for a takedown, but she doesn’t have the strength to take Vu down. Azevedo circles around Vu and tries to bring the fight to the ground again, but Vu won't budge, forcing Azevedo to pull guard.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Azevedo is completely zapped out. She’s phoning in the takedowns and just hanging on, running on fumes.

[On the ground, Vu looks to posture up and eventually forces her to open her guard. Vu moves on the ground and gets to half guard for a moment before Azevedo switches to full guard. The two jockey for position back and forth, killing precious time. With just seconds remaining, Tim Vu unloads with some punches that look to be taking a toll on Azevedo. The final buzzer sounds and the referee separates the fighters.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And this one goes the distance! Big props to both Tim Vu and Isabel Azevedo for putting on an exciting and competitive fight, but I don’t think there’s many people that would disagree that Tim Vu will take home the dubya tonight.

JASON JACKSON
First round was close, but I feel like It’s unanimous. 30-27.  Tim Vu took rounds 2 and 3 dominantly. Nice win for Vu as he moves to five and two. Oh snap. I rhymed. Hashtag BARS.

[The crowd roars with cheers for both fighters after a gritty three round battle. The medical staff enter the cage and begin to check up on each fighter. After a few moments, the medical personnel finish their work and both fighters meet back in the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, after three rounds, we go to the judges’ scorecards. Judge Nikki Delgado scores it 29-28 Azevedo, Judge Gene Tillman scores it 29-28 Vu, and Judge Broderick Page scores it 30-27, for your winner by split decision, Tim “The Intimidator” Vu!

[The crowd shows their support as Vu has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s corner. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Cruiserweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 2-1. Standing 6’1”, and weighing in at 225 pounds. He is from Munich, Germany, presenting Wenzel “Traumtoter” Kautz!

[Wenzel Kautz glares at his opponent from the opposite corner.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And now we introduce a promising yet still unrefined Wenzel Kautz. He’s coming off a loss, his first loss in fact, and it wasn’t even close. I’m sure Kautz is wanting to erase those mistakes and get back on track, and he gets a big opportunity against a former title challenger. Kautz has a long range, is physically strong, and has got some solid hands. But he’s got his hands full tonight.

JASON JACKSON

Damn, He’s an angry German man, jah? Kautz is coming off the heels of a TKO loss to Jose Melendez back at Boss Fight XXII and it looks like he’s only got one thing on the brain here tonight. Redemption, and we ain’t talking Red Dead, partner. He’s ready to march out there and unleash some of those crazy kicks he’s known for, and kick Mike Santos’ head off his shoulders, if he can.  It’s hard to plan for someone so creative and spontaneous with their offense, but if you ask Santos? You don’t need a plan when you have a chin made of Iron and hands like jackhammers. Speaking of...

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a brawler holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 4-3. He stands 6’2”, and weighing in at 225 pounds. He is from Melbourne, Australia, fighting out of Throne MMA, presenting “The Punisher” Michael Santos!

[Michael Santos looks calm but knows he has a tough fight coming up.]

JASON JACKSON

I like this guy, Bodie. I know he has had an up and down career here at UGP, but up until he fought Roscoe, he’d only lost by submission. I know how hard Scoe hits, personally. I have been in there with him. I’m known for having one of the best chins in the sport and Roscoe rocked the shit out of me when we fought. I’ve never been knocked out to this day, but Roscoe came damn near to ringing my bell. I can’t fault him for his loss in the title match. It happens. One good punch is all it takes, but Mike Santos can deliver that “one good punch” himself. Believe me. This dude has grown man power. Kautz had better use his range and avoid getting tagged cleanly because I’ve seen Santos walk through some hellfire and drop a motherfucker with one punch like it was a cakewalk. Better keep your head on a swivel before it’s knocked off your shoulders. That’s all I’m saying, uce.

BODIE SULLIVAN

And that is Michael Santos to a tee. You know he’s looking to rebound after losing to Roscoe Robinson for the title. If you recall, that fight was back and forth and under five minutes, but it felt like a lifetime. Santos nearly had him beat, but The Shooter shoots and he caught him. This is Santos’ rebound tour, and Wenzel Kautz is his first stop.

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[Michael Santos and Wenzel Kautz touch gloves in the center to get this fight started. Wenzel Kautz kicks things off with some strikes, but Santos blocks them with confidence. Both fighters circle around the center of the cage until Kautz sees an opening and launches a front kick. Santos narrowly evades the kick before feinting with a jab to open up his opponent for a crushing hook! Kautz is stumbling back on his heels as Santos rushes forward. Michael Santos unloads with a looping left hand that connects right on the chin and stops Kautz in his tracks! Kautz drops to the mat, completely unconscious as Santos walks off, knowing this fight is as good as done!]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And this one is all over! Michael Santos puts this one away with a shotgun left hand!

JASON JACKSON

I told you! Chin made of iron, and hands like jackhammers. Santos does it with a walk off KO. Beautiful left hand, Mike. Hats off to you Uce. Whew. That was a quick one. Glad we don’t get paid by the hour.

BODIE SULLIVAN

Aye, you ain’t lying brother!

[The crowd explodes into cheers and Santos is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Kautz for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Willie Green has called for a stop in this fight at one minute eleven seconds in the very first round, declaring your winner by knockout, “The Punisher” Michael Santos!

[The crowd cheers once again as Santos has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Co-Main Event of the evening! The following contest is scheduled for five rounds and it is for the Union Grand Prix Interim Lightweight Championship! Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Muay Thai Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 4-2. She stands 5’5”, and weighing in at 140 pounds. She is from Antwerp, Belgium, fighting out of R-Grip MMA, presenting Yasmine Vermeulen!

[A ferocious staredown by Vermeulen while the official, Jordan Ripley, recites the rules amongst the fighters.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Yasmine Vermeulen has quietly climbed the rankings, but there’s no denying her now. Tonight is the biggest moment of her MMA career, and without question her biggest test. Can Vermeulen overcome the obstacles of not just the physical differences, but the sheer psychological toll it takes to face The Bandit?

JASON JACKSON

You know, no one is unstoppable. You can build this untouchable reputation but at the end of the day, like my mother always said “there’s always  someone who’s going to have your number.” Is Yas the one that has Nat’s number? That’s the question. Nat is taller, with a much larger reach. Yasmine needs to utilize that Muay Thai clinch and keep The Bandit from fighting at range and throwing those lethal kicks, and I think she can do it. She was 17-2 as an amateur, 4-2 here in UGP, and is coming off a two fight winning streak… both of those finishes, by the way. I don’t know Bodie, I like her chances but well…. The bandit is… The Bandit.

MIKE DEMPSEY

And her opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Dutch Kickboxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 9-2. She stands 6’ even, and weighing in at 147 pounds. She is from Newark, New Jersey, fighting out of RAW Graps, presenting Natalie “The Bandit” King!

[King beats herself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking herself in the face, body and legs to get ready for his scrap.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

What can be said about Natalie King that we haven’t already said ad nauseum? Her resume is absolutely incredible. She’s fought the toughest fighters at 155 pounds, even taking on a top tier Bantamweight in a one-off Catchweight bout. Nat King only tasted a drop of glory when she defeated Jordan Parker-Kane for the title. Less than three weeks later, she faced and ultimately lost to Delaney Donovan in a split decision in the 2019 Championship Grand Prix finals. That fight went the full twenty-five minutes and won the 2019 Fight of the Year Award, but their second encounter wasn’t nearly as close. King has faced the toughest and walked all over them to get here, you think she’s stopping now, Jason?

JASON JACKSON

Not at all. I think Natalie King wants to come in here and put the stamp on Yasmine Vermeulen. I think she doesn’t stop there either. She has her sights set on a rematch with Delaney after his fight with Travis Decker, who is next up in the Middleweight queue. Personally, I’d love to see a Bandit/Double D rematch, but we cannot look past Yasmine here. She’s just as hungry and Nat is going to need to be as sharp as ever and do her thing once again. It’s time to see how it plays out though, Let’s get round one underway.

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[King and Vermeulen move forward as the bell signals the beginning of the fight. Vermeulen moves backwards and Natalie King is asking her if she came today for fighting or running. A solid question from the jump, one that only time can tell as the clock continues. Natalie launches a stiff kick, but Vermeulen deflects it with ease. The clock says 0:35 in the first round as Lightning is fired with a fast low kick from Vermeulen! King blocks that kick with her leg before faking a punch of her own and launching herself over Vermeulen!]

[Nice move by King who clinches and pushes Vermeulen against the cage. Natalie pushes Vermeulen away trying to keep the fight at striking range, but Vermeulen doesn't want to break the clinch as she still grapples with Natalie. The pace of the fight changes as both fighters are tied in a clinch. King launches a knee! She connects hard just below Vermeulen’s ribs. Vermeulen ribs are getting hammered, it doesn’t look good for her at all.]

JASON JACKSON
Vermeulen was clinging on for dear life to that clinch and paid for it. Nice Knee by The Bandit.

BODIE SULLIVAN

That knee looked spring loaded. Vermeulen will have to be careful of those close range shots to the body.

[Still in the clinch, King gets double underhooked and looks for the takedown. King blocks Yasmine's knee and hits a perfectly executed knee tap!]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Woah, nice little takedown by King!

[Natalie is in closed guard over Vermeulen as Vermeulen tries to roll on the ground, succeeding with a swift reversal! And just like that, Yasmine finds herself mounted over Natalie. Vermeulen is now in full mount over Natalie as she tries to move on the ground and escape from the position. Yasmine doesn't want to lose her position and she struggles to maintain. Natalie then tries to roll to her side and trap Yasmine in her guard! Natalie gets her hip out and moves to full guard.]

JASON JACKSON
Great Jiu-Jitsu display from these fighters here. I thought this was going to be a stand up war and here we find ourselves all pleasantly surprised by some elite level grappling from the strikers.

BODIE SULLIVAN

Sometimes you gotta take what your opponent gives you.

[The clock says 1:45 and Yasmine is in full mount over Natalie. King is using some of her ground skills to escape from this spot she’s found herself in. She pushes Vermeulen's knee away and tries to roll, putting herself perfectly in half guard position. Vermeulen tries to roll on the ground but Natalie uses her leg to keep her position on the ground. Yasmine then gets sloppy and Natalie tries to take advantage, firing away with body shots, connecting multiple times to Yasmine’s abdomen.]

JASON JACKSON
Brutal shots to the body here, as Natalie works some ground and pound to try and loosen Yaz up. I think these fans want to see this fight return to standing though.

BODIE SULLIVAN

I don’t blame them if they do, it’s what these women are known for, but it’s good to see that they can push it in all phases of the fight.

[The two fighters stall out and Jordan Ripley has seen enough passivity on the ground and stands up the fighters. Both fighters have climbed to their feet and continue the fight standing. The United Center erupts in excitement! The clock says 3:20 as Natalie delivers a bone shattering right hand to Yamine’s face, something she will definitely feel days beyond tonight’s fight.]

JASON JACKSON
BOOM! That was a laser guided missile that just hit her. Beautiful striking by King.

[Lunging forward, Natalie locks onto Yasmine in a clinch as the clock strikes 3:40. Vermeulen is launching some swift punches to King's ribs while in the clinch, failing to connect as Natalie fends them off. Again, Jordan Ripley sees a lack of activity in the clinch and separates the fighters.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Gotta keep the action moving, you can’t just hang on to kill the clock.

[Faking with her left, Yasmine swings and connects with a powerful punch to Natalie’s chin that leaves her in a slight daze. Despite her vision being far from perfect at the moment, Natalie quickly moves in and grabs onto Yasmine before she can strike again. Natalie King shows some wrestling skills as she put her opponent in a double overhook!]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Nat King eats a big strike there before tying up with Yasmine Vermeulen.

JASON JACKSON
Natalie King’s awareness and experience on display here. She did not want to get hit like that again and she used a textbook boxing clinch to clear the cobwebs and mitigate any further punishment. A-1 fight IQ from the former champion.

[With 4:10 on the clock, the fighters are back in the clinch. Vermeulen takes a break to breathe while holding Natalie. Here we are yet again, Jordan Ripley separating the fighters due to lack of activity in the clinch. Vermeulen moves to shoot, but Natalie King delivers a knee that wrecks her! Yasmine is off balance, leaving herself exposed as Natalie moves in and tries to grapple with her.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Absolutely brutal knee from King! Vermeulen gets rocked and could be in some trouble here.

JASON JACKSON
SHEEEESH! The timing on that knee though, Uce. I could hear her jaw damn near shatter all the way over here. It’s that outside fighting. King is waiting patiently and baiting Yasmine to come in.

[4:45 on the clock, Natalie launches a knee while holding Yasmine in a double underhook… BAM!!! That knee hits Vermeulen in the abdomen, knocking the breath from her lungs, a crushing shot to Vermeulen's body as she holds her side. Things then pick back up as Yasmine dodges a strike from Natalie, immediately exchanging blows with her. Just as things begin to heat up, Jordan Ripley separates the fighters as the round concludes.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And that’s the end of round one for King and Vermeulen. I don’t think anyone would question that this one goes to King. She’s able to generate so much power and velocity in her striking with such long range, especially for a lightweight.

JASON JACKSON
That round was 100% Nat King. Vermeulen is giving it her all, and she’s hanging in there… but Natalie is in the driver’s seat and doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon.

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[Round two begins and wasting no time, Vermeulen attempts to shoot in for Natalie’s legs, coming up empty handed as Natalie hops back and delivers a powerful kick to her head! Yasmine shakes it off before locking her eyes back on Natalie. Moving in, she quickly goes to hook Natalie, only to be countered in the blink of an eye! Brilliant combination from Natalie King out of nowhere that forces Vermeulen into defensive mode.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Natalie King is heating up with some blazing combos and has got Vermeulen guessing!

[The clock says 0:30 in the second round, King tries to take the action to her favorite field as she shoots in to grapple. Great move by Natalie, who pushes her opponent forward with a double underhook! The fighters are now clinching. Brutal knees to Vermeulen's face, followed by knees to the body from Natalie! BANG! Vermeulen can’t take many more shots like that!]

JASON JACKSON
Yasmine is getting tuned up. This fight is going to be over soon if she doesn’t do something different here. She is in pure survival mode, Bodie.

[0:45 on the clock, both fighters are still tied in a clinch. King launches a knee, driving it into Yamine’s ribcage! Still in the clinch, Vermeulen appears as if she doesn’t want to clinch. Ducking under Natalie, she tries to move away. Natalie pushes Vermeulen forward and doesn't allow her to break the clinch. Yasmine slightly pushes King into the fence and tries to calm down the action. Just like clockwork, Jordan Ripley sees a lack of activity in the clinch and separates the fighters.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Vermeulen tries to regain her wits and slow the pace down with the clinch, but Jordan Ripley isn’t one to allow much stalling to happen.

JASON JACKSON
For once, I actually agree with this separation. Action had stalled out and they were just hugging each other. Separate them and reset. You know I wouldn’t mind reffing a fight or two sometime. That seems like fun.

[Yasmine launches a low kick that gets blocked quickly. King tries to get the advantage after Yasmine’s missed strike, putting her head in the path of a vicious kick that barely misses. Natalie King goes with a looping right hand while Yasmine jumps back and connects with a jab. That one hits but Vermeulen seems unaffected, countering with a few punches of her own. After the brief exchange, the camera zooms in to a cut bleeding just over Yasmine’s eye.]

JASON JACKSON
I have to give Yasmine props. She is taking some punishment and just keeps on ticking. She’s leaking, and she’s unphased. She’s getting brutalized and she keeps coming forward and fighting. Tremendous heart.

BODIE SULLIVAN

Perhaps she can weather the storm enough for King to tire herself out and take some steam off those strikes.

[Reaching the 1:40 mark, Natalie circles around Vermeulen, looking for angles as she throws a few jabs that are countered by Yasmine's punches! King measures the resilience of Vermeulen's chin with an uppercut while Vermeulen lands some great crosses in exchange. Despite the effort, Yasmine appears to still be taking on more damage than Natalie as her forehead begins to swell.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Yasmine Vermeulen continues to show some incredible toughness and isn’t backing off, but man she’s taking some punishment out there.

JASON JACKSON
TOO much punishment. This fight is about to be called.

[Yasmine then steps in, only to get stopped in her tracks as Natalie connects with a powerful high kick. Before Yasmine can move from her position, Natalie fires off another shot, connecting with a second vicious high kick, instantly lighting up the officials eyes. The ref pulls Natalie away, this one is over! Yasmine seems confused and a bit dazed as the bell sounds.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And this one is all over!

JASON JACKSON
That’s it. He’s calling it. It’s all over!!! NATALIE KING with a stoppage here in the second. Double D, I know you were watching. She’s coming for that ass, playa. I sure hope you are ready! Because The Bandit just showed the world that she sure as hell is.

BODIE SULLIVAN

No one can doubt her now. Fourth win in a row, and now the interim Lightweight Champion. Big props to Nat King after taking down another tremendous opponent.

[The crowd explodes into cheers and King is swarmed by her corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Vermeulen for a while before helping her to her feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Jordan Ripley has called for a stop in this fight at two minutes seven seconds in the second round, declaring your winner by technical knockout, AND NEW Union Grand Prix Interim Lightweight Champion of the World, Natalie “The Bandit” King!

[The crowd cheers once again as King has her hand raised in victory and the Interim Championship wrapped around her waist. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

[“Ambitionz Az A Ridah” plays over the speakers as we cut back to the arena. Walking out from the back, Roscoe Robinson carries the UGP Cruiserweight Championship over his shoulder. With a microphone in his other hand, he stops in front of the entrance way, slowly looking over the crowd before raising it to speak.]

ROSCOE ROBINSON

From LA one night to Chicago the next night… what it is y’all?!

[Grabbing the Cruiserweight Championship with his other hand, he hoists it above his head, drawing a huge welcome from the Chicago crowd. Lowering the title back onto his shoulder, he slowly paces in front of the entrance way.]

ROSCOE ROBINSON

We have finally reached the point of no return. We’ve been talking about it for months but as of last night in LA? There’s no going back from here. The fans will get to see Kennard Rozier, the UGP Heavyweight Champion of the World in one corner and standing across from him in the other corner is no one other than the UGP Cruiserweight Champion of the World… Roscoe Robinson!

[The crowd erupts with another huge thunderous roar at the announcement of a super fight that’s been months in the making.]

ROSCOE ROBINSON

Coach P just couldn’t stand the fact that he was out coached last night that he thought it was wise to put hands on me? Only when he knew it was a matter of seconds before things were broken up. Once we’re inside of that cage and the door is closed… there won’t be anyone there to stop me from knocking him the fuck out!

[That last comment gets a mixture of reactions from the fans in attendance. Roscoe turns away and walks to the other side of the entrance.]

ROSCOE ROBINSON

I don’t need a shot at the Heavyweight strap, I’ve already said I didn’t care to jump the line and get an undeserved title fight. This right here is all I care about holding.

[He briefly glances down to the Cruiserweight Championship sitting on his shoulder.]

ROSCOE ROBINSON

There’s already enough phony people out there posing with championships that don’t equal up to their title fight numbers in the fight game. You know who you are… rawr.

[He winks to the close by camera.]

[Rubbing his beard, he then raises one finger as if a light bulb came on in his head.]

ROSCOE ROBINSON

I’m not done with this championship right here despite having the Heavyweight Champion next on my plate. I can’t even tell you when this fight is being booked. What I can do is this. I’m a fighting champion, put anybody in front of me and I’m going to defend what’s mine. But who is that next challenger going to be?

[He pauses for a brief moment, allowing the crowd to shout a mixture of names.]

ROSCOE ROBINSON

I honestly have no idea, all I can do is hope that it’s a new challenge. I like new challenges in life, it damn sure beats doing the same thing two, three… four times. So much in fact I would like to take this moment to make a special announcement, a calling for that next challenge if you will.

[He slowly moves his way back directly in front of the entrance, turning from his left to his right overlooking the entire crowd in attendance.]

ROSCOE ROBINSON

Now no challenger has officially been announced for my next Cruiserweight Championship defense. To be honest, I’d like to have multiple challengers fighting for the chance to step inside the cage and challenge me for the title. I’ve been talking with Dante about this for a few weeks now as we’ve been finalizing the details for the next super fight between Pluggz and myself.

At this time I would like to officially announce the Cruiserweight Championship Contender Grand Prix to name that next challenger. Let’s keep it simple and call it the Triple C Grand Prix. I don’t care where the challengers come from… come one, come all. You can be from Union, Everest, or wherever, Roscoe don’t give a damn. I just want a name for my next challenger when the dust settles from the big bad Heavyweight Champion falling to the mat. Just a challenger better than the rest of the playing field and what better way to single out that one individual.

Who wants a shot? Come get it...

I DRINK ALONE, YEAH WITH NOBODY ELSE

I DRINK ALONE, YEAH WITH NOBODY ELSE

YEAH YOU KNOW WHEN I DRINK ALONE,

I PREFER TO BE BY MYSELF

["I Drink Alone" by George Thorogood plays as Cal McCluskey walks out followed by his father, trainer, and cornerman - Jim McCluskey. Cal shouts back at some fans and is about to jump at them until Jim holds him back and pushes him toward the ring. Cal sticks his middle finger back at those fans.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And now ladies and gentlemen, this is the fight we’ve all been waiting for. It’s time to crown the inaugural Openweight Champion. Jason, when this Grand Prix was first announced, you look at the field and could make some easy predictions on who would be standing here tonight. One of them was certainly Daniel Fisk, but did anyone really anticipate Cal McCluskey in this position? And he did not have an easy path. In actuality, he probably had the toughest road to get here. Taking down Robert Guilliman and Donnie Calabrese, two highly revered former champions, but look at this guy. Since Cal has joined Atomik Combat Club, he’s completely transformed himself. He’s cut up from the butt up, and dare I say, this guy may just pull off the Cinderella story of a lifetime!

JASON JACKSON

Yeah, I won’t lie. I never imagined that Cal McCluskey would be standing here in the Blue corner fighting for a title. He’s beaten TWO high ranking RK soldiers on his way here and now he has his sights set on the General himself. It’s not going to be easy but I’ve said it a hundred times at least since I started my broadcasting career, and a thousand times throughout my career. ANYTHING. CAN. HAPPEN. This sport is wild like that. Never in a million years did I imagine Cal getting a TKO win over someone like Dog Face… but here he is. Smelly, Sweaty, Abrasive. Cal McCluskey in all his glory ladies and gentlemen.

[Cal finally reaches cageside, where begins to disrobe his warmups. He takes a quick swig of what we can only hope is water then pops his mouthpiece in before turning to face the fight official. As Cal is being inspected to ensure he doesn’t have any illegal substances smeared over his body, he steps back, looking like he’s ready to swing on the official. You can clearly see Cal’s mouth moving a mile a minute, but nobody is thinking that he’s saying a little prayer. But alas, the official is able to complete his inspection, and Cal stomps his way up the steps before stepping into the cage, double middle fingers flying to the crowd. The sea of boos only fuels Cal at this point, the confidence is oozing out of this man, or it could probably just be some Lee’s fried chicken grease.]

I’M A GOD IN THE HOOD, NIGGA

I’M A GOD IN THE HOOD, NIGGA

I’M A GOD IN THE HOOD, NIGGA

I’M A GOD IN THE HOOD, NIGGA

[The crowd goes in cheering wildly in the midst of nodding their heads to the beat. Ladies get to screaming at one of the best looking fighters out. Daniel Fisk Jr walks out with his Real Killas team behind him the hood of his robe staying over his head while he gives that grim face to the camera right in front of him. 4 Cuban link chains hanging from his neck. That's the only showman part Fisk's plays though as he walks to the cage keeping his focus on the cage and only the cage as fans reach out to touch him. He nods his head slightly keeping his business-like demeanor while all the power he's looking to unleash is moments away from opening.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

And now, the final walk out of the night. Many call him The Godfather. A multiple time champion, the 2020 Knockout of the Year, the boss man that leads a third Gym of the Year award, and most recently joining you and several others into the 2021 class of the Union GP Hall of Fame. Daniel Fisk Jr. has basically done it all, but he still finds the hunger and drive to strive for more. Tonight he’s got the opportunity to add on to his already incredible resume.

JASON JACKSON

What can I say about this man right here that hasn’t already been said? Thirty-three and five. With a record like that? There ain’t shit that needs to be said. The only thing that I’ll say is that Cal may have made it through Guilliman and Donnie by the grace of god… but now he’s fighting the don. The godfather of Real Killas MMA. Your god ain’t going to help you now. It’s between you and the .44 and Fisk hits like a runaway freight train.

[Reaching the pad, his expression never changes as he takes off the fight robe and house mortgage on his neck. After getting checked in he slowly walks the stairs until he reaches the entrance. He stands there and slaps both sides of the cage before walking in calm and easy. Fisk stares at his opponent while walking to his corner and nods in approval. Reaching his corner he rotates his wrists and warms up wanting every bit of the action.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Main Event of the evening! Sanctioned by the Illinois State Athletic Commission, our three judges scoring this contest at cageside are Broderick Page, Gene Tillman, and Nikki Delgado, and when the action begins, our referee in charge in the octagon is Herschel Warden. AND NOW, this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The following contest is scheduled for five rounds and it is for the Union Grand Prix Openweight Championship! Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Boxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 4-11. He stands 6’3”, and weighing in at 235 pounds. He is from Warren, Michigan, fighting out of Atomik Combat Club, presenting Cal McCluskey!

[Cal McCluskey sways from side to side, eyeing his opponent from across the octagon. Cal continues to trash talk, even if his opposition can’t hear him over the roaring crowd.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Boxer holding a professional mixed martial arts record of 33-5. He stands 6’5”, and weighing in at 240 pounds. He is from Los Angeles, California by way of Newark, New Jersey, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, he is the former two-time Union Grand Prix Cruiserweight Champion, presenting “.44” Daniel Fisk Jr.!

[Fisk raises a clenched fist in the air, with zero emotion shown. Both fighters meet in the center where Herschel Warden stands.]

HERSCHEL WARDEN

Alright gentlemen, we’ve gone over the rules in the back. Protect yourself at all times, follow my instructions, touch gloves, and let's do it.

[Daniel Fisk extends his fist out, but Cal being Cal, he starts to extend his until he fakes Fisk out and flips him the double middle fingers. The crowd gets riled up, but Fisk continues to remain emotionless and they head back into their corners.]

BODIE SULLIVAN

Oooh! Cal McCluskey continues to poke the bear, JJ! I don’t think mind games are going to work on a guy who’s been through nearly forty professional fights.

JASON JACKSON

That was the wrong thing to do. Trust. He just made the biggest mistake of the night. Pour one out for Cal.

OG_RD1.png

[The bell sounds and the fight is officially in action. Fisk and Cal close the distance and meet in the middle. The two circle left and right looking for any openings and Cal fires off a calf kick. Daniel Fisk checks the kick and lands flush with a counter hook! Cal goes limp and faceplants to the mat! He’s out cold! McCluskey is out! Daniel Fisk has ended this fight in highlight reel fashion with just one punch!]

JASON JACKSON

I told you. Forty-four don’t play about that disrespectful stuff. One punch. One fuckin…. The shade. Go on ahead, hall of famer. Show the world what it’s about. That’s gotta be  a new record for the fastest KO in UGP history. Twenty seconds? That’s all it took? SHEEEEEEEEEEESH.

BODIE SULLIVAN

And this one is all over, folks! Blink and you’ve missed it! Jason, you’re right, not only do we have a new Openweight Champion, but we have a new record for the fastest knockout in Union GP history! Official time: Twenty seconds! Unbelievable! Daniel Fisk Jr. just hit Cal McCluskey harder than calculus! What a finish!

JASON JACKSON
Harder than calc-- HAHAHAHA. I’m leaving. We are done here. I can’t with you, uce. That’s all for us here in the booth. We hope you enjoyed this great night of fights, I know I sure did. On behalf of me and my partner here we thank you for being Loyal UGP fans and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Jason Jackson, signing off. Good night folks.

[The crowd is in pandemonium and Fisk is swarmed by his corner in celebration. The medical staff pour in the octagon to tend to McCluskey. It takes an uneasy amount of time for Cal to finally come to his sense. Once the doctors finish their standard procedures, they finally help him back up to his feet. Once the medical staff has wrapped up their obligations, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Herschel Warden has called for a stop in this fight at twenty seconds in the very first round, declaring your winner by knockout, AND NEW Union Grand Prix Openweight Champion of the World, ".44" Daniel Fisk Jr.!

[The crowd cheers once again as Fisk has his hand raised in victory and the Championship wrapped around his waist. Despite the incredible trash talk and mind games, both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]
