[After the floor is given for the fighters to speak, several reporters are signaling to current Union GP Middleweight Champion, “The Primarch” Robert Guilliman, of Real KILLAS MMA. He is well dressed as always, this time in a sharp dark grey suit, and a lighter gray tie.]
SIMON VARNAY | PRAETORIAN MMA
Simon Varnay with Praetorian MMA, for Robert Guilliman.
[As always, Guilliman starts with a confident nod.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
Go ahead, Mr. Varnay.
SIMON VARNAY | PRAETORIAN MMA
The much-touted and expected Middleweight bout between you and Aries Reed was put on hold with UGP #12 cancelled, and is now the first one in a tournament for the Middleweight Title. I imagine the news must have not sat well with you and your people?
[Guilliman raises an eyebrow and opens his arms.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
Why? Why must have it not sat well? The fight was meant to happen regardless, and now it is happening. As for the tournament, in fact, Aries Reed was saying before we were to face that I had lost the hunger, and had grown complacent. What better way to show him and whoever else might hold that thought how mistaken they are?
[His lips curve into a sly smile.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
I was going into UGP #12 with the intention of making history one more time. Now I have the intention to make history throughout the whole tournament, both as the fighter with most defenses in the Middleweight Division AND the winner of the first Middleweight Title tournament in Union GP.
[The Primarch pauses, and flashes his confident, winning smile to the flashes of the cameras and the dead silence of the conference room.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
The best Middleweight Champion in Union GP history. And all of that begins with none other than our esteemed Silver Tongued Devil.
SIMON VARNAY | PRAETORIAN MMA
Ever the courageous one, Mr. Guilliman.
[The Primarch raises a hand, this time with another classic diplomatic smile on his face.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
You already know how I operate, Mr. Varnay. Seek honor as you act, and you shall know no fear. And remember - Robert is fine.
SIMON VARNAY | PRAETORIAN MMA
You must know, however, of Reed’s motivation after having been there before and coming up short before you beat the former champion. Now that you find yourself in that position, what is your look from the other side?
[Guilliman nods, this time seriously, his face as if carved out of stone.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
Same as it has always been, Ms. Varnay. As I have fought and defended, I will continue to fight and defend. It doesn’t matter whether Reed wants to keep it on the stand-up game or to come for the clinch and take me down. First he has to come close enough, and as everyone before has found out...
[The Primarch makes a diagonal cut in the air with his hand, ending at one of his temples.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
… Once the button is pressed, it is all over. That goes for Mr. Reed, and to whoever awaits on the other side in the way to the finals. All it takes, is one precise shot.
SIMON VARNAY | PRAETORIAN MMA
Good luck then, Mr. Robert.
[Having no more questions, the journalist sits back down, as another one rises to address Guilliman next.]
MELISSA GUTIERREZ | BLEACHER REPORT
Melissa Gutierrez, with Bleacher Report. Mr. Robert, it looks like this will be an even stand-up fight. Aries’ powerful boxing strikes on one side, your devastating kicks on the other. Based on this, what makes you think will be the deciding factor in this fight?
[The Primarch raises his eyebrows, and his traditional cheeky grin appears on his mouth again.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
I can go toe to toe on the punches too, Ms. Gutierrez, but Aries is primarily strong on the clinch - that’s where elbows come into play. As I stated before, however, to actually be able to do that, one must come close. And THAT is where my kicks come in, as I’m sure you are aware by now. In essence, I believe it will boil down to who has the strength after all is done, to remain standing. And may I bring to your attention this particular factor - I have yet to be knocked out here in UGP. Even Bonanno’s feared elbows on the ground were not enough.
[Guilliman sits up straight, and that confident, political smile grows even wider.]
Let’s see if our esteemed Mr. Reed can go for that prize.
MELISSA GUTIERREZ | BLEACHER REPORT
Your confidence is not without merit, but let us suppose he does. What comes next? What would happen in the case of an eventual loss?
[The Primarch returns that traditional stately smile that he reserves for hard diplomacy.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
I have already made history, Ms. Gutierrez. Let alone defeating the then-undefeated, I am the fighter that held this title for the longest yet, and that is already an accomplishment. There may or not be a rematch in the future, that is of no consequence. But should that happen, it will be back to the KILLA grind, the same way it was after my only loss. And we know what happened when I returned from that, do we not?
[After this, Guilliman holds up the Middleweight Title for the crowd to see, and the cameras to catch]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
But as I have held this title for so long, I must refer you to what I said at the beginning. Though I have done more than enough, I refuse to let it end there. It is time for me to do what I stated I would do before the UGP #12 scandal - become the fighter with most defenses in the Middleweight Division, and the winner of the Middleweight Title tournament. Perhaps it will be two fellow KILLAS facing in the finals - but this belt I hold is still going to be under the wall of the Real KILLAS camp.
MELISSA GUTIERREZ | BLEACHER REPORT
Best of luck with that then, Mr. Robert, and I hope that turns out to be the case. That will be all, and thank you for your time.
[Very proudly, Guilliman nods his head.]
“THE PRIMARCH” ROBERT GUILLIMAN
My thanks, Ms. Gutierrez.
[And with the round of questions finished, Guilliman takes a sip of his water, as the floor is given for other fighters to speak.]
