EVENT: UGP #4 Press Conference
VENUE: Golden Nugget Showroom
LOCATION: Atlantic City, New Jersey
DATE: Friday October 26, 2018 @ 8:00 PM ET
[The scene opens up inside the Golden Nugget Showroom in Atlantic City, where the room overall is dimly lit, but the light display that bounces off the walls and pierces through the crowd flashes silhouettes of a room packed with emphatic excitement. As the music pounds through the PA, the final media members take their seats and not long after, UGP President Dante Reed emerges onto the main stage. A roaring applause ensues, cuing the music to fade out while Dante makes his way to the center podium. Once he takes his stance, the fighters scheduled for the biggest event in Union GP's early history follow behind and take their reserved seats while the crowd erupts into pandemonium. Reporters and fans alike have been waiting patiently for this event to finally come. Dante gestures for the crowd to quiet down as he adjusts his tie and begins his opening statement.]
DANTE REED
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the official press conference for UGP #4! Tonight is a very special night in that we prepare for the event that we crown our first champions of the company! I am very proud and honored to be a part of this company, and it's all because of these warriors sitting here around me. Without them, this place wouldn't exist, obviously. But these men and women have shown that they are the biggest names in this industry, and the feedback that we have received after each show thus far has proven it. So without me wasting anymore time, allow me to turn it over to you fine men and women that have been salivating for answers.
[Dante eases back at the podium as a sea of reporters launch their hands high in the air, waiting to be called upon.]
Unlike in previous press conferences, The youngest member of the roster isn't messing with his phone and Is dressed in a black suit with a white shirt and blue tie. Reporter steps up and looks toward Jordan Parker - Kane.
Bleacher Report:
Steven Rondina, with Bleacher Report. Looking good tonight.
Jordan leans forward and smiles.
JPK:
Thanks. It's kind of a big deal tomorrow. Figured I'd dress up.
Bleacher Report:
Would it be fair to say that tomorrow night is the biggest night of your young career?
JPK:
Feels like that has been said about my last several fights, but it's quite true. Though, I guess being nineteen that statement will probably be made more often in the future.
Bleacher Report:
You've never faced anyone quite like Hanako Takeuchi before. How do you feel about your chances?
Jordan offers a small shrug.
JPK:
If I didn't believe I could do it, I don't belong here. This is a classic clash of styles. Which could end up in an epic fight that goes the full five rounds or one of us catches the other just perfectly and ends it early. Her strikes are deadly, and I have to find a way to avoid those while still trying to take the fight to her.
Jordan pauses to take a sip of water.
JPK:
I admit I don't know a lot about who Hanako has or hasn't faced in her other ventures. It's clear she's doing quite well for herself. All that gold over there, yet still finds a way to relate to the “common people”. It's inspiring… Again, who she has or hasn't faced there, I don't know, but I'm fairly confident she's faced few if any like me. I know that is definitely the case here. I'm no deathmatch wrestler, but as I have said in the past I am willing to push myself further than most to get what I want.
Jordan stops and leans back as if he done with the question. A reporter sits and a new one approaches.
Before he can ask anything, Jordan leans forward again.
JPK:
If you would allow me, I'm gonna tell a quick story…. About five years ago I got a call from someone in Slaughterhouse New York. I was asked to come in and spare with a trainee there. I had actually been denied membership into Throne shortly before then. At that time they weren't accepting people under the age of eighteen. Anyway, I got there and they had this guy there that they wanted me to spare and train with. I don't remember who it was, but I overwhelmed him Not with strength great strikes, but with pure speed that he couldn't touch. You see I wasn't brought in because I had impressed someone and they wanted me to join. I was brought in so a trainee could have a laugh about kicking the crap out of me. Yet, what happened. I embarrassed him. It just so happened on that day James Shark was there. He watched the entire thing and the first words he ever spoke to me…. “Speed… Kills”. The rest is history.
Now I don't tell that story try and imply that Hanako is like that guy or that I'm going to overwhelm her. She's probably seen too much to truly be overwhelmed. What I am saying is that those strikes are deadly, and IF she catches me it could be over for me. However, she has to catch me.
Jordan peaks down the line toward Hanako.
Bloody Elbow:
Tim Bissell, with Bloody Elbow. What are your thoughts on the situation with Slaughterhouse Oahu?
Jordan shakes head, knowing this was coming.
JPK:
I respect Jason and his accomplishments. I'm sure he had his reasons who deciding I shut it down, but I'm not getting into that.
BloodyElbow:
And the Slaughterhouse fight nights?
JPK:
It's great, I'm excited about it. I'm waiting to get more information in terms of the dates, to see how it fits into my schedule. It's definitely something I want to be a part of in some capacity. As Fisk pointed out, that main event… Gonna be crazy.
Sherdog:
Matt McNulty with Sherdog. Your opponent tomorrow doesn't seem to have a high opinion of you or your family history. Thoughts?
Jordan starts to answer but stops himself to think on the answer. He had been trying not to let the comments bother him, but being asked about them makes it hard for him not to go off about it.
JPK:
Just as she had some facts wrong with Lux, she has some wrong here. Yes, I come from a well-known wrestling family. That's no secret. However, being one of the many children of Brad Kane isn't quite the advantage you think it is. I didn't even know I was about of that family until I was 13-14 years old, even this it's only because the woman who adopted me sought out my biological family. Do you know why that was?
So much for the idea of not going off. Jordan shakes his head and looks back at the crowd.
JPK:
She had an inoperable brain tumor and was dying. That is the reason I know my family's name. Has being a Kane opened some doors, yeah it has, and anyone in my position would have walked right through them the same as I have. To say otherwise is a lie. Don't get things twisted though. I worked my ass off to get to this point. I signed a wrestling contract with Hard Knox Wrestling at the age of 15. I made a name for myself and was able to sign endorsement deals. I earned my own fucking money. When Brad Kane died I didn't get a dime.
Jordan sits back and glares. No one is quite sure what to say for a moment. He sits back up and continues.
JPK:
Yes, I've had opportunities that others haven't. I won't apologize for that. There isn't a damn person in this room that wouldn't have taken them if they were in my shoes… You think I haven't sacrificed? That I don't know hardship? Ask your boy what I sacrificed, what hardships I've had. Ask him how much work I put in, who it to snapped away just like that.
Jordan snaps his fingers.
JPK:
Better yet, get a subscription of the Evolve Network and watch the October 26th, 2016 of RISE. You can see for yourself what hardships I've had. What adversity I've had to overcome.
He glares over towards Hanako before shaking his head and pushing away from the table.
JPK:
I'm done, see you all tomorrow…
He shakes his head and walks away, as microphone catches him saying “Fucking self-righteous bitch” to himself as he walks out.
