EVENT: UGP #4 Press Conference
VENUE: Golden Nugget Showroom
LOCATION: Atlantic City, New Jersey
DATE: Friday October 26, 2018 @ 8:00 PM ET
[The scene opens up inside the Golden Nugget Showroom in Atlantic City, where the room overall is dimly lit, but the light display that bounces off the walls and pierces through the crowd flashes silhouettes of a room packed with emphatic excitement. As the music pounds through the PA, the final media members take their seats and not long after, UGP President Dante Reed emerges onto the main stage. A roaring applause ensues, cuing the music to fade out while Dante makes his way to the center podium. Once he takes his stance, the fighters scheduled for the biggest event in Union GP's early history follow behind and take their reserved seats while the crowd erupts into pandemonium. Reporters and fans alike have been waiting patiently for this event to finally come. Dante gestures for the crowd to quiet down as he adjusts his tie and begins his opening statement.]
DANTE REED
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the official press conference for UGP #4! Tonight is a very special night in that we prepare for the event that we crown our first champions of the company! I am very proud and honored to be a part of this company, and it's all because of these warriors sitting here around me. Without them, this place wouldn't exist, obviously. But these men and women have shown that they are the biggest names in this industry, and the feedback that we have received after each show thus far has proven it. So without me wasting anymore time, allow me to turn it over to you fine men and women that have been salivating for answers.
[Dante eases back at the podium as a sea of reporters launch their hands high in the air, waiting to be called upon.]
[Now Fisk came into Union GP thinking he would see this day. The Killas believed it and knew he would see this day. Many of the fans, the Killa Militia, and the real supporters knew it would be coming but now that it’s here. For Daniel Fisk Jr to be sitting in front of the hundreds inside of the Golden Nugget Showroom at this time. He felt it now. He felt the hint of it when the UGP 4 card went up at the time just highlighting the main event in Diao and La’Bell. He felt it even more once the card in full came to follow seeing his name beside Seth Daniels. Anyone can act like they are the smoothest guy in MMA but the fact of the matter is if you start to lose the butterflies in the stomach or the electric feeling at the ends of your extremities, you’re losing that love for the fight. Losing that need to rise at the moment. Losing the love of the sport. Daniel is completely captivated by it all and has been ever since that first day walking into the gym, putting on the gloves, and trying his luck. Approximately 3 years...4 months...and some odd days ago…
‘There’s a lot more into just throwing a punch. Everything your body does before and after plays into it.’ Clayton Paris told him that on his very first day. Thoughts of that first day running through his mind. Thoughts of his first professional fight running through his mind. Thoughts of his first professional loss running through his mind. Thoughts of it all...all the paths taken to make it here running through his mind. So immersed in his own thoughts he didn’t even notice the question.]
??
.44??
[Fisk jolts lost in his own thoughts and blinks to realign himself looking out into the crowd of media and fans. He wipes down the front lapel of Stefano Ricci suit. All black with gold accents in the lining. Matching down to the loafers on his feet. Fisk said it as the media caught up with him walking into the building.
“I need to feel golden now for when I am officially golden tomorrow.”
Right now he needed to hear whatever question was given again.]
Daniel Fisk Jr
Yeah? Sup cuh, my fault. Or...excuse me, ma’am. Repeat your question please I was caught in the rapture.
[Fisk realizes where the voice comes from and he nods in the young woman’s direction.]
Leta Ruiz - MMA Mania
The Rapture?
[Fisk chuckles and leans forward more in his chair.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Yeah. Just the moment. Old school, Anita Baker? One of my Moms fav songs. Caught in all of it. Looking around seeing where I am & coming from. We in Jersey right now. Atlantic City. I took my first breath two hours away from here. It's...it's full circle for me. Just thinking about it all. All of the other fighters up here looking to rise to the occasion too. I already knew the high stakes and seriousness but just sitting here I was caught in thoughts is all. Go on ma repeat your question though.
Leta Ruiz - MMA Mania
The question interesting enough was about your focus. Something that’s been questioned with all you have a hand in. Your thoughts about having to juggle as an owner and a fighter being able to focus?
[Fisk’s eyebrows shoot up a bit at that not in an offended way or anything like that. Just intrigued by the question.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Have to say to that I’m doing a good job considering I’m sitting here soon to fight in the finals for the Cruiserweight Championship belt. Not only that but I’ve been one that’s wanted to learn all aspects of this game. From the ground floor to the front office. It’s been that for me since I walked in. MMA is it for me. I never really wanted anything else. I wasn’t that great in school. I didn’t like school other than the females. I knew college wasn’t in the cards. Always been good with numbers and working with my hands. Instead of ending up in construction I got a nudge to try this. People can question my focus but facts are this is all I do. 24/7, 365. I’m not a failed wrestler trying my hand somewhere else. I’m not a person who is seeing this as a fallback or even a new challenge. It’s the only one I have. No offense to anyone meant on God, I mean get it how you live but to say or question a person’s focus when this life is all they know is dumb to me.
[Fisk shrugs as he tells his truth.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
As an owner and a fighter, I can relate to each and every person from a level others might not be able to. I understand the dollars and cents that come with this business as well as the blood, sweat, and tears required to perform in there. It’s knowledge I’ve always wanted to have. Know the business in full. Inside and outside the ropes. It’s why I coach, I fight, I work the office, promote, tend to all aspects. Live this 24/7. Can’t get more focused than that in my opinion and in each aspect I grow more.
[Satisfied with that one answer Leta looks to add on one more.]
Leta Ruiz - MMA Mania
Real quick, your thoughts on the closure of Slaughterhouse Oahu?
[Fisk chuckles and points at Leta Ruiz in an “ahh-haa” way similar to the movie Coming to America.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Naww naw. I aint touching it cuh. Yall keep asking, nope. Letting that be exactly what it is.
[Fisk laughs with some of the media joining as Leta continues.]
Leta Ruiz - MMA Mania
Then you must have some thoughts about the announcement of Slaughterhouse Fight Nights on YouTube from James Shark. What do you think about this historical venture?
Daniel Fisk Jr.
The OG Shark said he would turn a positive out the negatives. That’s exactly what cuh did. Aint nothing but respect for it. He’s a businessman showing you how he does business. Seeing how other companies seem to be showing cracks he’s striking at the exact right time and with a main event that’s def gospel.
Leta Ruiz - MMA Mania
Will you be joining?
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Looky here Ms Lady hoggin up the media time.
[Fisk even puts down the mic placing his elbows on the table in front of him and gives her the Doc Rivers. That gets some of the media to laugh and a lot of the fans in attendance. He breaks the look shortly after with a smile to answer.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Shit, I aint mad at cha get the questions in. Gotta leave you in suspense for that one tho. Will say that main event cold though.
Leta Ruiz - MMA Mania
Thank you.
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Gospel.
[Quickly the next media member comes up.]
Matthew Maratea - MMA Sucka
We noticed...Of course, we noticed. The back and forth on social media between you and Seth Daniels? What exactly were you expecting when you tweeted out to him?
[Daniel chuckles and looks down to see if Seth Daniels is even in the room.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Not a English lesson or a image dissertation thats for sure but that’s what I love about the fight game. Slobs can think they big time too.
[Fans respond cheering while Fisk just drinks a bit of his “Real Killas” logo water bottle.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
No...on God gospel tho. The man outright lied to the public saying Shooter aint said nothing to him until the day of the fight when Shooter was working overtime just to make you care about the fight. Dante...you even called on it at the beginning of UGP 3. Dead silent. Expected not to get caught up in the lies then tries to change subjects about my hair and the way I type. Admits that he has no idea what I own or am a part of, how I got here, and pretty much no credit to be given. Meanwhile I’m well aware of what he did to Shooter and Robb Daniels. Analyzed in full. Want me to show you how he aint paid not nann attention outside himself?
[Fisk throws up his index finger.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Cuh asks me to give more of a fight than his last two opponents like he’s been straight railroading through people. On God? Robb was giving Seth a striking clinic at the beginning of round one until Seth’s desperation kick. Yeah Seth’s toughness wins out but lets be a hun out here. I see details, I take note. I see it all. He didn’t even clear Robb out. The second item, when he faced Shooter. Win yeah he caught him but again watch the 2nd round. A full on battle of them trading shots & Seth catches Shooter on with a spinning wheel kick. As I said a good win. Credits in that but to run from any promotion of the fight whatsoever in complete silence then to act like you someone who been dogwalking niggas, dudes a wash cuh. I don’t respect it. He’s seen the second round with Shooter. Had to survive out the Robb Daniels onslaught in the beginning. I’m still trying to see a 2nd round cuh. I want that to be honest. Nate caught me a few times but I still slept him and I still aint acting like I’ve dogwalked folk. I respect when due. I’m the only one in the division with a flash punch KO...ONE PUNCH. Clean. Slob ass wrestler turned into a slob ass fighter. Couldn’t sell in 4CW can’t sell here. He’s the fuckin Stitches of MMA. Just here because...aint selling, aint respected, one of the worst that needs to be exposed. I got c's tomorrow night.
[Fisk points out to the media crowd.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
Shit he don’t even respect yall in terms of what brings him the money. Admits he’s don’t even care about these press conferences and doing the job that comes with the cage. How you ‘forget’ your business moves? Where is that G? That’s how you get your money. Like I told yall before about Niko Holst. I say his name cause I respect it. Hates these things & the man can be as silent as the grave but he acknowledges his fights. He acknowledges his challengers. He sells because of his nature and because he cares. He damn sure doesn’t admit to waiting for someone to ‘at him.’ And he damn sure doesn’t sell anyone worth they rank short AND he damn sure don’t run from nobody. In the cage or outside of it on social media.
Right now Seth Daniels has bought into this bullshit that all he has to do is come in and fight. That’s the aura he gives off and for what it’s worth up until now it’s worked for him. Then I gotta ask him what’s he’s done during his entire camp? What’s he studied? You don’t know me right? Or is it all a work that aint foolin nobody? Because no matter what he tries to play or pull I have no reason to hold yall up on what I do. I do my homework and pay attention to details. I do the work necessary living in the gym 23 out of the 24 hour day. The success comes wit that along with the struggles. I’m clearing dude for the ones that do the work correctly. Reps correctly. Doesn’t earn off of others hard work from the gym to the promotion. For the ones like Lucas who gives respect due but still tries to fuckin kill you. For Shooter because the only reason Seth Daniels sees a suite this weekend instead of a Motel 6 this time around is because a ‘Coe. Like I said in Florida, bringing the real MMA back. The real stories and the real workers. Not a slob that switches who he is from one week to the next. Fans aint got time for it. Union GP aint got time for it. I aint got time for it. Is the nigga even here cuh?
[Fisk waits after the long winded response to see if Matt has something to follow with. Matt is just smirking while getting his bites.]
Matthew Maratea - MMA Sucka
You talk a lot Daniel.
Daniel Fisk Jr.
I know. Got the hands to back it up too.
[Matt smiles at that and takes his seat.]
Toussaint Harper - Union GP
I’ma cut to it Fisk because it’s about the fight itself at the end of the day. What tools do you believe you bring to the table that would bring a result that Seth Daniels has yet to experience in Union GP?
Daniel Fisk Jr.
I have the power to make him think twice. He can try to dispute that all he want. All the times he’s stumbled around the cage are moments I know with a clean shot I can knock him out. His kicks are dangerous but watching the Shooter fight I think we all have worked together to keep with my footwork to maintain the distance and also check the low ones. When Shooter pressed him he aint like it. I’m in your face constantly and I live or die by that. It’s why I told him on twitter he better have that counter on God mode to make me second guess because being in my head makes me worse. I aint the type to think once the cage close. That’s what the camp is for. Proactive or reactive to what the opponent give. He asking for a fight while I been begging for someone to push a limit and stop me. Which also lets me know he aint paid attention. He told me he adding me to a list of being stopped...when have I been? Never. I’m glad he’s up to the challenge though. I really love this bravado because while he was deadly silent and scared with Roscoe he is confident with me. More motivation to an already motivated gun.
Toussaint Harper - Union GP
Any differences or similarities between this return to MMA and your 1st start?
[The question actually makes Fisk pause. Going back into his thoughts and it brings a smile out of him.]
Daniel Fisk Jr.
To my first start...more differences. I was a lot more nervous back then just because I felt like a Bambi first walking. Still learning. Everything was a lesson. Even with the winning streak that I had before going up against Tom Pendergrass I was never comfortable. Even now, I’m not comfortable. I’m on edge and anxious. Those feelings keep me sharp and never sated. Now as far as similarities, this isn’t similar to my 1st start in National Fighting Alliance and then transitioning to Macto Legion Championship. My Caged Glory start? It’s very similar to this time around. This is my third fight in Union GP and it’s for a title. My third fight in Caged Glory...also for a title. When I speak about 427 days...that’s as of tonight. It’ll be 428 days tomorrow night. That’s what I’m referencing to. A split decision that crushed me but renewed my spirit. Niko Holst.
Seth Daniels thinks he’s fighting a man he can dominate when he hasn’t dominated in his path to here. He calls others frauds when he’s already been exposed as a fraud himself and that’s before we even reached the cage. History is repeating itself but it won’t tomorrow. Tomorrow night is where I right things and stand on a pedestal I’ve yet to reach. Where I represent myself as the best of my division and move forward to the challenges that await still as hungry as that 24-year-old with bright eyes to everything new this business has shown me. Still as anxious as the 24-year-old wanting to perform at his best constantly. You looking at your first Union GP Cruiserweight champion cuh, I aint going out any other way. I can’t. I fucking refuse. I’m home.
[Fisk’s grip tightens on the mic at the end of his sentence. Some people might not see how important this is to him. Others might wonder why it’s that damn important to him. Those members of the media who are close enough to see his eyes and those fighters sitting next to him can tell. The aura and vibe you get just being near him you quickly understand. Fisk looks around for more questions and seeing none he leans back a little more in his chair but even then he’s still on edge. Ready, waiting.]
