[The opening montage comes to a close and the live feed transitions inside the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. 20,000 plus pack the building, where many have succumbed to the pandemonium and are bursting out in various battle cries. With the uncertainty of victory or defeat looming, the aura is both intoxicating and tense.]

[The main stage, where the fighters scheduled tonight dawn their presence, is littered with carnage and destruction. A heavy fog sits stale, scaffolding strung in multiple directions, and the overall structure glowing red with fire, ash, and embers; something no fighter will soon forget.]

[The toll on both fan and fighter is enormous. The stage of a bloody war is set. The conquerors envision nothing but execution towards success, while the meek is flooded with doubt.]

[Down in the trenches, our very own Toussaint Harper and Carrick Price stand at attention to officially kick off the night.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Welcome ladies and gentlemen, we are live exclusively on the Battleground Network at the Moda Center in The Rip City — Portland, Oregon for UGP 14! I'm Toussaint Harper and standing here next to me is the Irish Icon of MMA, Carrick Price. You know we like to hype up each and every card, but tonight is truly something special. We continue with the 2019 Championship Grand Prix Tournaments where we have two title fights headlining the night along with a handful of very compelling and unpredictable fights on the undercard.

CARRICK PRICE

No doubt Harpy. The main event has a lot of intrigue, not just because of the headhunter Robert Guilliman, but his opponent tonight comes in with some controversies. Zion Momo’a advanced to the semifinals and earned his shot at the strap on a Split Decision win over Travis Decker where many, including Zion himself, believed that Decker should have had his hand raised at the end. But the guy cannot dwell on that now, he needs to make the most of his opportunity tonight. Momo’a has shown to have some incredible agility and dodging skills that Guilliman hasn’t seen before. I think this will turn out to be a cat and mouse type of fight, where Zion tries to keep himself out of Guilliman’s striking range and try to tire him out.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

It could certainly be a chess match out there, but you can’t undersell Momo’a’s kicking game either. These two could very well play Russian roulette where they stand up and trade blows until someone hits that knockout shot. Definitely one we’ll be excited to see. And then in our Co-Main Event, the newly crowned two-time Lightweight Champion Jordan Parker-Kane will put his title on the line against a fast rising prospect in August Pope.

CARRICK PRICE

Listen, ain’t nobody mistaking Pope’s name now. The guy is 3-0 with two finishes inside the second round. However, he's yet to face a competitor like JPK. Pope is an absolute unit in the Lightweight Division, something I’m sure he’ll look to utilize inside the cage. On the other hand, JPK is the only fighter in Union to defeat Hanako Takeuchi, and he did it twice, so he’s no stranger to bigger, taller opponents.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

It’ll no doubt be an exciting clash of styles of striker versus submission artist and that’s what this sport is all about! The rest of the card also looks phenomenal. We’ll see Navorro Williams back in action as he takes on a young blood, Asher Jrue, who put together an amazing debut win where he finished Randall Wade with an unbelievable flying omoplata. This has the recipe of being a technical clinic and it’s my dark horse to be Fight of the Night.

CARRICK PRICE

No question that’s going to be a great matchup, but my early pick for Fight of the Night is Natalie King versus Tatum Momo’a. Both of these women have strung together some impressive victories and will ride in tonight with a lot of momentum. Both are superior strikers and are not afraid to stand and bang. Whoever walks out of this one will be rewarded with the next Lightweight Title shot in the Grand Prix semifinals, just another added incentive to this already tremendous bout.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

We’ve got all that and more tonight, folks. But now it’s time to “Keep Portland Weird” and turn it over to the action inside the octagon!

UGP14_Moore-vs-Reed.png

IT BURNS INTO YOUR HEART, THE DARKNESS THAT YOU FEAR

YOU WERE NEVER FREE, AND YOU NEVER REALIZED

AND LOVE, IS A WORD YOU'VE NEVER HEARD

YOUR HEART IS COLD CAUSE IT BURNS, THE DESIRE TO LEAVE THE MIND

[As "And We Run" by Within Temptation ft. Xzibit begins to build, Megan Reed emerges to the main stage. The crowd gives her resounding applause and she can’t help but acknowledge them with a wave and a bow. Reed begins to make her way down to the octagon with a calm grin and several members of her camp following behind.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Megan Reed kicks off another UGP event where she made her successful debut at UGP 13 to officially enter into the Bantamweight Championship Grand Prix Tournament. Her first professional fight was a very sound victory which gives her coaches some confidence that she could very well go deep into the tournament.

CARRICK PRICE

She certainly has the pedigree to make a deep run in this tournament and with a guy like Aries at her back, supporting her, I think she definitely has to be considered a threat. She’s not the type to try and be best friends with her opponent in the build up to a fight. Nor is she the kind of woman to talk a whole lot of trash. But you know she’s going to bring it to the fullest extent when she steps into the cage.

[Megan makes it to cageside where she strips down to her fight gear and has the fight official inspect her to ensure she is properly protected and in regulations. Once she’s been cleared, she climbs up the steps and enters the octagon with the roar of the crowd hyping her up. She calmly walks over to her corner, and begins shadowboxing to loosen up and stay warm.]

CALIFORNIA LOVE!

["California Love" by Tupac ft. Dr. Dre bumps over the loudspeaker and Lauren Moore emerges to the stage wearing her pink and black walkout fight kit with crew members from her Real Killas camp following behind. Moore can’t help but flash her signature smile as she slowly trots down the aisle toward the octagon.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

This is the first fight for Lauren Moore since the company’s short break, and coincidentally, she was one of the last fighters to square off against Misty DeMeans, the fighter who, alongside Rob Jones, was the headliner in all of the alleged PED controversies that led to the month layoff. That aside, Moore is one of the more technically precise fighters throughout all divisions and has been someone who has been “this close” to breaking through into that top tier status. Hopefully, with the break, she was able to fine-tune her game plan even more so and really start pushing towards that top contender discussion.

CARRICK PRICE

I know from speaking with Delaney Donovan that he said Lauren Moore is the fighter who has tested and pushed him the most on the ground. The fight game can be a fickle one sometimes, Harpy. You can be the more talented fighter but one punch can turn what you believed to be a wonderful night into a terrible one. I think that’s the case with many of her losses up to this point.

[Moore makes it to cageside where she disrobes and hands off her walkout kit to a cornerman so she can get checked out by the fight official. Once she’s been cleared, she gives a hug to each one of her corner crewmen before racing up the steps and jogging a few laps around the cage before posting up in her corner.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, we are live exclusively on the Battleground Network here at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon for UGP 14! And now, this opening bout is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Bantamweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Kickboxer with a professional mixed martial arts record of 1-0. She stands at 5’2” and weighing in at 120 pounds. She is from Chicago, Illinois, fighting out of the Imperial Senate Gym, Las Vegas, she is ”Firecracker” Megan Reed!

[Megan Reed looks very relaxed as she bounces in place to stay warm. She throws a clenched fight in the air as a gesture of gratitude towards the crowd’s cheering reaction.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And her opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Freestyle Wrestler with a professional mixed martial arts record of 2-3. She stands 5’7” and weighing in at 135 pounds. She is from Irvine, California, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, she is “L-Mo” Lauren Moore!

[Ferocious staredown by Moore while Jordan Ripley recites the rules..]

CARRICK PRICE

Christ, that’s not a look that I would want to be on the receiving end of. But it should send a message to Megan Reed loud and clear. This is going to be a tremendous fight, Harpy. What do you think?

TOUSSAINT HARPER

This is the first time these two meet inside the cage and I think it’s going to be a pretty fair match-up. I can't say in total confidence who is going to be the one who walks out of this one victorious. But now, it’s time to get this night kicked off. Our referee for this opening bout is Jordan Ripley. He checks off with each woman one last time and then calls for the bell! And here we go!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The bell rings, announcing the first round and the crowd gets riled up! Lauren Moore and Megan Reed close the distance in the center of the octagon and touch gloves. Moore launches a stiff jab but Reed is able to dodge it and counter with a bone-shattering straight right! Moore is going to have a big headache after that blow! Reed follows up with an uppercut that lands clean. Moore and Reed then step into each other and engage in a wild exchange of punches in which Reed gets the best of the exchange as she lands a few blows.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Megan Reed starts off hot with some accurate striking and Lauren Moore is cut on her right cheek already.

[Moore moves backwards to regroup and Megan Reed eggs her on, asking if she came for fighting or running. Reed throws a hook to the body and hits hard into Moore's ribs. Moore circles out of striking range and studies her opponent for a hole in her defense. She then leans forward and tries to grapple and now both are tied in the clinch. Reed doesn't want to clinch as she ducks under Moore and tries to move away but Moore pushes Reed forward and doesn't allow her to break the clinch.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Lauren Moore tries to control the tempo with the clinch, this is where she feels most comfortable.

CARRICK PRICE

That’s smart, she wants to neutralize Megan Reeds striking capabilities and this is the best way to do it on her feet.

[Moore pushes Reed up against the fence. She hammers Reed’s face with a couple of quick jabs before hooking the leg and tripping her to the mat. Megan Reef closes her guard as the two hit the mat. Moore looks like she wants to finish her opponent on the ground but she can't find any opening. Lauren Moore continues to work for positioning then suddenly Reed rolls on the ground! Nice reversal! Reed is now in full mount over Lauren Moore!]

CARRICK PRICE

Nice technique to get herself into a much better position. Lauren needs to be careful now. Megan could easily finish the fight from here.

[Lauren Moore acts fast and rolls to her side to move to half guard. Moore continues to grind and switches to full guard then starts to unload with some punches to Megan Reed’s ribs. Those punches are landing clean and Reed tries to stop the beating. Moore now changes targets and lands a few blows to Reed’s face. Those punches sure are annoying as she tries to cover her face. Reed doesn't want to continue the fight in this position and tries to get back to her feet. She moves fast and gets up and Moore quickly follows suit. Both fighters continue the fight on their feet and you can hear how the crowd agrees with that decision.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A good strategy for Megan Reed to bring the fight back to the feet.

[Moore and Reed circle around and look for angles. Moore lunges in for a sweep single, catching Reed’s far ankle and trios her back down to the mat. Reed immediately tries to roll on the ground but Moore uses her leg to keep her position on the ground before switching to half guard. Lauren Moore then posts up and starts unloading on the body and those punches look like they are taking a toll on Megan Reed, which allows Moore to move to side mount.]

CARRICK PRICE

Great use of her strikes there to open up the game on the ground. Moore’s corner has to be happy with this.

[Moore slides her knee across and gets to full mount. Reed doesn't want to continue the fight in this position and tries to get back on her feet but Moore puts some added pressure on and doesn't allow her to escape. Reed tries to roll to her side and trap Moore in her guard. She gets her hip out and moves to full guard. Moore fakes some punches then lands a big right hand to Reed's face! Moore isolates Reed's arm and neck and looks for an arm triangle! Reed is able to relieve the pressure on her neck and slips out of the hold.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Close call there for Reed who just narrowly slips out of the triangle. She needs to try and escape and get the fight standing again where she has taken control.

[Lauren Moore continues in the full mount and goes for an armbar! Reed breaks the lock and pushes Moore away, who rolls over her back and gets to standing position! Moore quickly follows her back up and both fighters are standing and the crowd is booming with cheers. The cracking of the ten-second warning echoes out and seemingly through desperation, Reed shoots a single leg takedown. Moore is able to stuff the takedown and wrap Reed with double overhooks, but the buzzer sounds marking the end of the round. Both fighters let off and head to their corners.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I think you gotta give that one to Lauren Moore. After a slow start, she was able to control the tempo, take the fight to the ground on a couple of occasions and implement a solid ground game with great pressure and patience.

CARRICK PRICE

She certainly controlled the fight and I think at the end of the day you do have to give it to her but not by an overwhelming margin and that’s what I’m preaching to Megan Reed if I’m her cornermen. There are still two rounds left. There’s plenty of time for her to put her stamp on this fight.

Megan Reed's Corner Notes:

Stick with the strikes!

Keep your range!

Stay off the mat!

Lauren Moore's Corner Notes:

Stay tight and avoid her striking!

Keep the fight in your realm!

You won that round!

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[The second round begins and once again Megan Reed doesn’t waste much time, launching a kick to the mid section that just barely misses. She follows up with a stiff jab, but Lauren Moore ducks away from it. Reed fails here and it's time for Moore to fight back! Moore moves forward and connects with a low kick to the thigh. Moore rushes in and grapples with Reed, and is able to work in double underhooks. Both fighters are tied in a clinch now. Megan Reed postures up and launches a series of punches! A lot of them are hitting Moore hard, and she may be wondering how to escape from this. Moore ribs are getting hammered, they look bad!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Megan Reed once again opens the round firing on all cylinders. If she can keep the fight standing, she has a very good chance at winning this bout.

[Megan Reed snaps Moore’s head down to knock her off balance and then shoots in for a double leg takedown. Laure Moore can sense the takedown and sprawls back to stuff it. Moore now tries to escape from the clinch with a duck under, but Reed pushes Moore off balance and doesn't allow her to break the clinch. Both fighters jockey back and forth for superior position, but neither one can really gain the edge. Finally, Lauren Moore is able to shrug her way out of the clinch and circles out to regroup. Nice job of getting out of that position.]

CARRICK PRICE

Good job escaping the clinch there but in the early goings of this round it feels like Megan is getting comfortable and starting to assert herself more. Lauren needs to be wary of that.

[Both fighters circle their way back to the center of the octagon before truly focusing in on working in their offense. Lauren Moore feints a jab and quickly changes levels and shoots in for a single leg takedown. Megan Reed gets caught off guard and gets planted to the mat. Moore lands in side mount and without hesitation, begins working on her positioning. Moore is able to lock up her legs around Reed’s left arm while she works to pin her right arm. Lauren Moore locks Megan Reed in the crucifix and starts dropping elbows from the heavens! Moore doesn’t let up and soon Reed’s head is bouncing off of the canvas as she lays unconscious! The referee  finally rushes in to stop the action and the crowd goes wild for the spectacular finish!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And this one is all over! Lauren Moore executes a mesmerizing chain of moves to take the fight back down to the mat and finish this one off with some devastating hell-bows from the crucifix! Big win from the Real Killa!

CARRICK PRICE

Wow! That was absolutely dazzling. Brilliant feint that lead to a takedown and from there it was just top notch skill on the ground and brutal punches that turned Megan Reed’s head into a basketball.

[The crowd explodes into cheers and Moore is swarmed by her corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Reed for a while before helping her to her feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Jordan Ripley has called for a stop in this fight at 2 minutes 2 seconds in the second round, for your winner by knockout, “L-Mo” Lauren Moore!

[The crowd cheers once again as Lauren has her hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

[The camera cuts to the backstage area where Dylan Carter is standing by.]

DYLAN CARTER

Ladies and gentlemen, my guest at this time is a relative newcomer to Union GP, Lightweight competitor “Bullrush” Gracyn Knight!

[Gracyn smiles at the camera.]

GRACYN KNIGHT

I mean I’m having a pretty busy night of sitting on my arse and watching other people fight, but I can squeeze in an interview.

[Both women chuckle.]

DYLAN CARTER

It's appreciated. Now I know your first fight at UGP 13 didn’t exactly go as planned, but since then you have joined up with Scrapyard MMA. How do you feel joining with those guys has affected your training?

GRACYN KNIGHT

Didn’t exactly go as planned is a nice way of putting it, Dylan. I dived right into where Xabier wanted to be and the slippery fuck got me. Being shown your weakness like that is a real humbling thing let me tell you, and while I was bummed the fuck out, it gave me something to work on, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Working. The Scrapyard has been great for that. They know what you need to work on and make sure you improve. I’m never going to be a BJJ master, but they can help me not get tapped out in the first round. Realistic shit. They are hard arses, but I welcome that shit. It's a bit of a sausage fest right now but the couple of ladies we’ve got are top tier in my humble opinion. The coolest thing though is that everyone there feels like family to me. We’re all in it together. Now sure there are blowups and fights as is the case in every family, kinda goes with the theme of being in Belfast, but at the end of the day we’re there to train how to beat arse more effectively, and they do it well.

DYLAN CARTER

Speaking of training, you have no current fight lined up for you since being eliminated from the tournament, is there anyone in particular you have your eyes on to fight?

GRACYN KNIGHT
It’s still early days for any targets yet, Dylan. Obviously the bullseye is always on the champ, but I’m a tad far away from them right now. I didn’t get to show what I could really do in my last fight, so I just wanna fight again so I can do just that. It's simple and not very original, but that’s what it is.

[Dylan nods and smiles.]

DYLAN CARTER

Well we look forward to seeing what you intend to show us, Gracyn. Thank you for your time.

GRACYN KNIGHT

No problem, I’ll get back to my seat before someone tries to steal it.

[With that Gracyn walks out of shot before the camera cuts away.]

UGP14_Donovan-vs-Sheckler.png

YOUNG THUGS IN THIS MOTHERFUCKER

DON'T BREAK UP THE FIGHT, LET 'EM RUMBLE

DON'T MAKE ENEMIES WITH ME

I TRY TO TELL THESE MOTHERFUCKERS THEY AIN'T SEE

DON'T MAKE ENEMIES WITH ME

["Don't Make Enemies with Me" by Tupac ft. Outlawz bumps over the loudspeaker and Lexi Sheckler emerges to the main stage wearing her charcoal and lime green walkout fight kit with crew members from her MTK Global camp following behind. Sheckler can visibly be seen barking out insults to fans lined along the aisle as she never breaks her pace heading toward the octagon.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Making their way to the octagon now is one of the newest additions to the Lightweight Division, Lexi Sheckler. Lexi comes in with some momentum after having put together an impressive debut win over Kenzi Grey, but let’s not undersell it, she’s got some stiff competition ahead of her tonight.

CARRICK PRICE

I’ve been working closely with Delaney ever since her victory in the first round. Regardless of the noise on Twitter she’s going to be a difficult opponent standing and I think she shocked all of us when she finished her first fight with a submission. It made it evident we couldn’t ignore that aspect of her game. She might be knew to mixed martial arts, but she’s got talent there’s no doubt about that.

[Sheckler makes it to cageside where she is checked by the fight official. Once she's cleared, she races up the steps and jogs around the cage a couple times before staying put in her corner.]

HER BREATH BEGAN TO SPEAK

AS SHE STOOD RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME

THE COLOUR OF HER EYES

WERE THE COLOUR OF INSANITY

CRUSHED BENEATH HER WAVE

LIKE A SHIP, I COULD NOT REACH THE SHORE

WE’RE ALL JUST DANCERS ON THE DEVIL’S DANCE FLOOR

["Devil’s Dance Floor" by Flogging Molly blasts over the loudspeaker and Delaney Donovan emerges to the stage wearing his Irish flag inspired walkout fight kit with crew members from his camp following behind. Donovan burrows his head down while slowly walking down the aisle.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

One of the top contenders in the Lightweight Division and certainly one of the favorites to win this Grand Prix Tournament, Delaney Donovan comes in riding on a big win against Jeremiah Ford, who was able to impose his will on the bigger fighter throughout their bout. Donovan tonight faces a long range striker which has the has been his only kryptonite so far.

CARRICK PRICE

This is exactly the sort of fight we wanted for him, though. We’ve seen what he is capable of against essentially every other style of fighter. He’s been successful to a great degree, except, as you said Harpy, against long range strikers. I don’t think Lexi is quite at the level of Hanako, but it will be a good test for Delaney for sure.

[Donovan makes it to cageside where he is checked up on by the fight official. Once cleared, he climbs up the steps and calmly takes his place in his corner while shadow boxing along the way.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, the following bout is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Lightweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Kickboxer with a professional mixed martial arts record of 1-0. She stands at 5’11” and weighing in at 147 pounds. She is from San Clemente, California, fighting out of MTK Global, she is “The Black Label” Lexi Sheckler!

[Lexi Sheckler looks very relaxed inside the cage as she raises a fist in the air when announced.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And her opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Muay Thai Striker with a professional mixed martial arts record of 5-1. He stands 5’9” and weighing in at 155 pounds. He is from Belfast, Northern Ireland, fighting out of The ScrapYard MMA, he is “Double D” Delaney Donovan!

[Donovan steps out from his corner and raises both hands in the air as the crowd cheers him on.]

CARRICK PRICE

Not going to lie, Harpy, I’m obviously cheering for my boy in this fight and I’m telling you, this is one that he wants badly. I’m sure Lexi would say the same for herself though. This should be a good one.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

We are set and ready to get this quarterfinals bout underway and find out who will be moving one step closer to glory. Our referee for this bout is the seasoned Herschel Warden. He checks off with each fighter one last time and calls for the bell! And this one is underway!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The fight gets underway as the bell sounds but the action starts off slow as both fighters seem to study each other, looking for any opening to exploit. Sheckler is the first to act, trying to bring the fight to the ground with a takedown and Donovan goes to the ground. Delaney manages to control Shecklers progression, forcing her to expend more energy than she would have liked just to get half guard after an aggressive attempt at transitioning directly to full mount fails. Poor technique in trying to open Donovan up allows Delaney to work back to full guard, closing it quickly. Donovan tries to move on the ground and shows Lexi Sheckler a crack in his guard which she uses for a big elbow! Donovan uses his forearms to block the impact!]

CARRICK PRICE

Certainly not the way that Delaney was looking to start the fight out, but he does well to defend himself in the early going.

[Lexi Sheckler is in closed guard over Donovan. She tries to pass and momentarily is able to but Delaney quickly regains full guard. She continues to work, trying to better her position on the ground but Delaney smartly holds her head against his chin, closing his guard down. Looking to gain some advantage, Donovan rolls on the ground and executes a beautiful reversal, finding himself in full mount over Sheckler. He’s methodical in studying his opponents defense and, perhaps, a bit too methodical for referee Herschel Warden’s tastes as he stands both fighters up for being too passive.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A solid takedown from Lexi Sheckler doesn’t produce much from there. Donovan will want to keep tight with Sheckler to stay in his range and out of hers.

[Delaney doesn’t seem to mind the decision, however, and tries to close the distance between the two of them, looking to grapple. Nice move. He shoves himself over his opponent and secures a single collar tie. Sheckler launches a few hard punches to Delaney Donovan's ribs! Donovan struggles and protects himself. Both fighters continue in the clinch. Sheckler tries to take Delaney Donovan down but Donovan stumbles backwards and Lexi Sheckler launches a few punches. Delaney Donovan dodges and moves away a couple of steps. Donovan is trying to counter now! Delaney Donovan is opening up on Sheckler and raining down combinations! Sheckler's corner looks worried as Donovan’s strikes have opened up a small cut on Lexi’s right cheek.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

That’s what you want to see from Donovan. Work inside the clinch, keep Sheckler from using her reach to her advantage.

[Sheckler goes to the body but her punches graze Donovan's arm. She fires off another rapid series of punches but those glance of Delaney’s arms as well. Backing off, Delaney circles and studies the woman across from him but she doesn’t allow him much time to do so, testing his takedown defense as she shoots in on him. Nimbly, Delaney sprawls and remains on his feet. As she stands the two engage in a wild exchange of punches and Delaney gets the best of the exchange, connecting on a few of his strikes. Trying to avoid the blows, Sheckler looks to take the fight to the ground with a single leg takedown but Delaney jumps backward and frees his leg. While Sheckler scrambles back to her feet sloppily, Donovan seizes the advantage and fakes a punch, launching himself over his opponent, locking her up in the clinch and pushing her against the cage.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I’m a little confused as to why Lexi keeps going for the takedown. She needs to find her range and start picking Donovan apart with her striking.

[Sheckler grabs one of Delaney Donovan's arms and tries a hip toss but Donovan does well to maintain his balance and avoids going down. Sheckler fires low kicks that fail to land. Donovan counters with a couple of jabs and then a big hook! Sheckler blocks the jabs but the last punch hits hard on Lexi Sheckler's cheek! She stumbles and falls to the canvas, her left cheek beginning to swell as Herschel Warden keeps a close eye on the fight now, recognizing that it could all be over shortly.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Big right hand from Donovan that could be the beginning of the end for Lexi Sheckler very soon!

[Donovan is standing while Sheckler is on the ground on her back. She tries to stand up but Donovan doesn't allow her, launching a kick to her thigh that connects with a loud pop! Delaney continues to press her and not allow her to get up but eventually Herschel Warden has seen enough and brings the fight to a halt to stand Lexi back up as well.]

CARRICK PRICE

Solid kick to the thigh from Delaney that lets Lexi know she’s not just going to lay on the canvas and pray without absorbing some punishment for doing so. Good decision by Herschel Warden to stand this fight back up and the fans seem to agree with it as well.

[Lexi Sheckler is on her feet again and when the fight resumes, Donovan launches a low kick that almost wrenches Sheckler’s knee! The two circle the cage, Lexi wincing a bit from the contact from the nasty low kick just as the buzzer sounds. Delaney doesn’t return to his corner immediately, instead watching his opponent carefully as she returns to her corner. The usual jovial and easy going Donovan not showing his typical personality in this fight. Moments later he returns to his corner and takes a seat.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Ooh, I think this one has become a little bit personal now. There was a little bit of fire in Delaney’s eyes after the bell.

CARRICK PRICE

I’m telling you, Harpy, he didn’t like what she said about her being the one to carry the lightweight  division. That one rubbed him the wrong way.

Lexi Sheckler’s Corner Notes:

Keep the fight standing!

Use your range!

Don’t get caught up in the clinch!

Delaney Donovan’s Corner Notes:

Keep the pressure on her and stay tight!

Don’t get antsy, stay patient!

You won that round!

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[As the second round begins the look on Lexi Sheckler’s face says it all. She wants this win and starts out by unleashing a kick in Donovan’s direction but it misses and Delaney smiles for the first time all evening, shaking his head no. Lexi Sheckler responds by faking a punch and launching herself over Delaney Donovan. Donovan counters with a few fake punches and then backpedals. Sheckler continues to be aggressive and press the action, faking a move before she launches a liver kick! Donovan blocks it, however, and pushes his opponent.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Lexi continues to stay aggressive which is good to see in a striker, but she needs to be smart about burning her energy.

[Lexi Sheckler goes with a looping right hand while Donovan jumps back and jabs. Sheckler seems staggered and Delaney Donovan runs to capitalize with a bunch of jabs and crosses. Crushing shot to Sheckler's body! She's holding her side. Trying to get some separation, Sheckler steps backwards and lowers her arms while breathing heavily. She seems tired. Even so, she fires off a brilliant combination but Donovan is just too nimble and dodges them expertly before looking to counter. Recognizing his opponents aggressiveness, Donovan tries some clinching in order to control the fight. Well done. Donovan is clinching with Sheckler.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Donovan wraps his opponent back into the clinch to control the tempo and shutdown Lexi’s reach advantage. Smart move by the Irish fellow.

[Both fighters are tied in a clinch. Sheckler tries to take Donovan down.  Donovan stumbles backwards but doesn’t fall. It’s enough of an opening to allow Lexi room to launch a few punches. But Delaney dodges and moves away a couple of steps, frustration growing in Sheckler’s eyes as she’s yet to make any significant contact with her opponent. Sheckler looks for angles as she throws a few jabs that are countered by Donovan's punches. She’s on the receiving end of a great combo by Donovan that opens up a small laceration on Sheckler's chin.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Sheckler is cut and I think frustration is starting to cloud her judgement.

[Delaney Donovan moves forward looking for some grappling action and quickly has his opponent in a text book double collar thai clinch! Lexi tries to shrug her way out of the clinch but Donovan is determined and he pummels through, retaining his position. After a misstep by Sheckler, Delaney postures up and launches another series of punches! A lot of them are hitting Sheckler hard, who may be wondering how to escape from this! Sick uppercut from the clinch by Delaney Donovan! That one almost breaks Sheckler's chin and she goes down!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

OH! Lexi Sheckler gets rocked! She’s hurt!

[Delaney doesn’t pounce though, being cautious and methodical as ever. He takes a step back to allow Lexi to get back to her feet and she takes the opportunity to do exactly that. When they draw closer once more, Sheckler fires off a solid kick to the leg but it’s checked by Delaney. Sensing an opening, however, Donovan is quick to grapple with Lexi once more, executing a perfect double collar thai clinch. Knowing this isn’t a position she wants to be in, Lexi tries to shrug her way out of it but Donovan pummels through and maintains control.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Delaney continues to operate in the clinch and it has worked to near perfection for him in this fight.

[Delaney Donovan throws a wild flurry of punches while in the clinch! Sheckler is being hit hard here! Brutal punches to Sheckler's face while in the clinch! Sheckler can't take many more shots like those! Herschel Warden has seen enough! The fight is over! Sheckler was not intelligently defending herself! As Delaney is pulled off by the referee he flips Lexi the bird before returning to celebrate with his corner until the official winner was announced.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

That’s it! That’s the fight! Lexi Sheckler ate one too many punches in the clinch and Herschel Warden saw enough to call off the fight!

CARRICK PRICE

I can’t say that I like the display after but there’s no denying the message that Delaney just sent to his opponent.

[The crowd explodes into cheers and Donovan continues to be swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Sheckler for a while before helping her to her feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Herschel Warden has called for a stop in this fight at 2 minutes 48 seconds in the second round, for your winner by technical knockout, “Double D” Delaney Donovan!

[The crowd cheers once again as Donovan has his hand raised in victory. Sheckler offers her hand out, but Donovan snubs her as he splits off with his crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

["13 Steps To Nowhere” by Pantera blares over the PA System and Brendan McCarthy emerges to the main stage wearing his gray walkout fight kit trimmed in orange with his ScrapYard MMA crew following behind. McCarthy has a wide-eyed, almost psychopathic look on his face, and it only grows stronger as he feeds into the roar of the crowd.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

We finally got to see this man in action at Boss Fight XI after signing a deal just before the company break. From what we have seen from Brendan McCarthy, he’s not one who will shy away from conflict and will not back down from a fight. He delivered a dominating debut win, but no doubt this will be a monumental test for him.

CARRICK PRICE

As a coach and someone who has been working closely in developing Brendan's game lately, this is exactly the sort of fight that I want to see him in. Byron McCall is a veteran with tremendous capacity to adapt to any fight he’s in. This is definitely going to be a challenge for Brendan but I feel like if he is able to execute the gameplan that we’ve implemented that he can find success tonight.

[McCarthy makes it to cageside where he strips down and gets inspected by the fight official. Once he’s been cleared to fight, he turns to give a quick fist bump to his corner crew before stomping his way up the steps. Brendan heads straight to his corner, where begins to shadow box and stretch out.]

NOW YOUR HEROES HAVE FALLEN.

CHAMPIONLESS,

THE SEAS ARE RISING.

SO TORCH EVERY BANNER.

["Idols and Anchors" by Parkway Drive shreds over the PA System and the veteran Byron McCall emerges to the main stage wearing his walkout fight with his Real Killas MMA crew following behind. McCall never breaks stride with a stoic look across his face, a look of focus from the decorated fighter.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Byron McCall makes his return from the break here for the first time, and so far in Union GP, he’s done nothing but dominate his competition thus far. However, I don’t think he’s seen a guy quite like McCarthy, which should be a very good test for the seasoned vet.

CARRICK PRICE

I already spoke on Byron’s adaptability but I didn’t mention the fact that of the many fighters I’ve met and dealt with over the course of my career in mixed martial arts, he’s one of the few that I genuinely respect. His work ethic can’t be surpassed and he treats the fight game with the respect that it deserves. I’ll be rooting against him tonight, of course, but it in no way reflects the respect and appreciation I feel for what he has done, and continues to do, for this sport.

[McCall reaches cageside where he strips down to his trunks and gets inspected by the fight official. Once he’s cleared, McCall goes around one-by-one with his corner crew and gives each one a hug before racing up the steps. Once inside, McCall jogs a few laps around the octagon before posting up in his corner and begins rolling his neck to stay loose.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, the following bout is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Middleweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Wrestler with a professional mixed martial arts record of 1-0. He stands at 5’11” and weighing in at 185 pounds. He is from Bangor, Northern Ireland, fighting out of The ScrapYard, he is Brendan “The Hammer” McCarthy!

[Brendan McCarthy doesn't look concerned about anything his opponent brings to the table, but knows he has a huge test ahead of him.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Kickboxer with a professional mixed martial arts record of 18-7. He stands 6’1” and weighing in at 185 pounds. He is from Boston, Massachusetts, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, he is “The Last” Byron McCall!

[Byron McCall raises his fists in his corner. He seems confident but also focused.]

CARRICK PRICE

The introductions are done, Harpy, and I’m ready to see how this one plays out. A young prospect looking to prove himself against a veteran of the cage looking to assert himself in the division once more. A victory here for either man puts them into the semifinals, and one step closer to challenging for the middleweight crown.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

No question the stakes are high for both competitors and you can see that neither man is taking this lightly. This is what the fans love to see, and you can hear it here in the Moda Center. The referee for this bout is Dusty Whittaker and we are all set. He checks off with each man one last time and calls for the bell! And this fight is underway!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[McCall and McCarthy move forward as the bell signals the beginning of the fight! Right off the bat the two exchange wildly. McCall is connects with a few punches and then launches a furious low kick that lands hard on Brendan’s right leg. Instinctively, McCarthy responds and tries to take the fight to the ground with a single leg takedown but McCall jumps backwards and frees his leg. Brendan McCarthy gets sloppy and Byron McCall tries to take advantage. He throws a low kick but switches targets and lands a superb body kick! Again, Brendan reacts and shoots for a double leg takedown but again McCall is able to stuff it, sprawling and staying on his feet.]

CARRICK PRICE

Solid kicks from Byron McCall early on but perhaps more worrisome for the ScrapYard fighters corner is McCalls ability to stuff the takedown attempts of his opponent in the early going.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Definitely something to keep an eye on, McCall would much rather keep the fight standing to utilize his kickboxing background.

[As both men stand back up they circle around the center of the cage. McCall moves forward looking for a hole in his opponent's defense but finds nothing and circles back out. McCarthy fakes a punch and shoots a takedown but again McCall sprawls and remains on his feet. McCall tries to get some advantage after his opponent miss move. Byron McCall tries a high kick! McCarthy was covering for a middle kick and that one almost knocked off his head! McCall dodges a strike and counters with a crushing hook that misses by an inch!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Great movement for McCall here, who is picking apart his opponent right now.

[Brilliant combination from Brendan McCarthy but McCall shows some dodging skills avoiding them. Perhaps a little frustrated, McCarthy is careless and McCall takes advantage with an incredible haymaker that snaps McCarthy's head backwards! He’s taken some brutal shots in the first round but McCarthy continues to press, shooting for a double leg takedown! Byron McCall has been well prepared for those takedown attempts, though, and he sprawls and manages to stay on his feet. Deciding to test his opponent’s skill, Byron McCall shoots for a double leg takedown! He hits it! Brendan McCarthy is taken off his feet, but he manages to pull McCall into his guard.]

CARRICK PRICE

Well executed double leg takedown but Brendan smartly pulls Byron into his guard and now we’ll get a chance to see who can outwork who on the ground.

[Byron McCall is in closed guard over McCarthy. McCall use some of his wrestling skills to escape from the closed guard! After a few tentative moves, he jumps to side mount!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

It’s impressive to see just how well rounded McCall is. People talk about his striking prowess, but his ground game is underrated and doesn’t get talked about enough.

[Byron McCall is in side mount over Brendan McCarthy. McCarthy works on the ground with his fingers over McCall's face but Byron continues to work. Brendan McCarthy attempts to trap Byron McCall in his guard but McCall keeps control and remains in side mount. After a warning from the referee to be working, McCall tries to move to full mount! Nice move. He is in full mount now. McCarthy is using some of his ground skills to escape from this but Byron McCall pushes him down and prevents his attempts to escape. In response, Brendan launches a few punches to McCall's cheek from the guard. McCall tries to stand up and finds his way back to his feet. A moment later Dusty Whittaker halts the fight to stand up Brendan McCarthy.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Solid ground work from McCall and smart decision to get back to his feet.

[Brendan McCarthy takes a few seconds to recover his breath. Though McCall didn’t do much damage on the ground he forced his opponent to expend a lot of energy and it’s showing. Brendan McCarthy goes with a looping right hand while Byron McCall jumps back and jabs. McCarthy only hits air and the subsequent exchange is fruitless. Brendan McCarthy tries to take the fight to the ground with a single leg takedown and again McCall avoids going down. Using his opponent's momentum against him, McCall pushes McCarthy against the fence and has him in a precarious position as Byron ties him up in the clinch.]

CARRICK PRICE

Byron continues to defend the takedowns well. He clearly has come into the fight well prepared for what McCarthy has to bring.

[Brendan McCarthy tries to shrug his way out of the clinch but McCall is determined to work from there. He pummels through and manages to retain his position. Brendan McCarthy is grappling and launching some wild punches but it’s not the best move against Byron McCall who tries to take advantage of his opponent's mistakes. Byron McCall is grappling and launching some wild punches and McCarthy eats some vicious shots from the veteran fighter. Brendan McCarthy shoots and grab Byron McCall's ankle trying to take him down with a Heel Trip Reversal but McCall sprawls and remain on his feet just as the buzzer sounds, marking the end of the round. The ref tells the fighters to go to their corner.]

CARRICK PRICE

Solid first round from Byron and I think the judges will clearly score it in his favor. Brendan needs to settle down and not get frustrated when McCall is able to avoid going to the canvas and I’m sure that’s exactly what the corner is going to tell him.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

No doubt this one goes to McCall, but McCarthy stayed aggressive which is what you want to do. Don’t allow McCall the time to read and react.

Brendan McCarthy’s Corner Notes:

Setup the takedown!

Stay patient!

You lost that round!

Byron McCall’s Corner Notes:

Keep him guessing!

Keep stuffing the takedown!

You won that round!

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[The second round begins and both fighters move directly to the center of the cage. In spite of taking some nasty shots in the first round, McCarthy grins widely as the two draw close. McCarthy showing excellent timing, blasts Byron McCall with a right hand but McCall steps backwards and the punch goes wide.]

CARRICK PRICE

Well timed punch but McCall shows tremendous defensive capabilities and just narrowly slips out of the range of that punch.

[McCarthy decides to launch some tentative punches and Byron McCall takes the best of a brief punching exchange. McCall is holding Brendan McCarthy's left leg... He's trying to take him down. Brendan McCarthy loses balance and goes to the ground. Byron McCall is in side mount over Brendan McCarthy and looks to mount Brendan McCarthy. Byron McCall slides his knee across and gets to full mount. McCarthy tries to roll to his side and trap McCall in his guard but McCall keeps good control and remains in full mount. Deep breaths from Brendan McCarthy who tries a hammer punch to McCall's ribs. McCall blocks those punches and Brendan tries to roll to his side and trap McCall in his guard. However, Byron keeps good control and remains in full mount. McCarthy measures the resilience of McCall's ribs with a couple of big punches from guard. Those hits are leaving hitches in McCall's side. Hard blow to McCall's mid-section, he seems hurt. McCarthy switches his target and launches a few punches towards his opponents face. Byron McCall uses his head to cover the punches and presses his skull forward. He doesn't want to continue the fight in this position and tries to get back on his feet. Moving fast, McCall returns to his feet and McCarthy follows shortly afterward.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

McCall gets another takedown on his opponent, but this time McCarthy was able to land some heavy blows to the body and I think it took a toll on him.

[Brendan McCarthy fakes a punch and launches himself over McCall! Byron McCall is smart enough to avoid the clinch game by McCarthy and pushes him away! Instead, he looks to gain the advantageous position and tries to clinch. McCall moves forward and holds McCarthy. Brendan McCarthy pushes away McCall trying to keep the fight at striking range. McCall stumbles backwards and Brendan McCarthy circles to get the center of the cage. Brendan McCarthy shoots for a double leg takedown! He hits it! Byron McCall is taken off his feet, but he manages to pull McCarthy into his guard. McCall tries to move on the ground and shows Brendan McCarthy a crack in his guard which he uses for a big elbow! McCall uses his forearms to block the impact!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Great takedown from McCarthy who now looks to be finding his rhythm.

CARRICK PRICE

Vicious elbow from McCarthy that Byron did a nice job using his forearms to absorb the impact. Good to see Brendan begin to assert himself some. He’s looking much more comfortable in this round.

[McCarthy is trying to better his position on the ground and launches a couple of elbows against McCall's ribs. McCall blocks McCarthy's moves and tries to reverse the situation. McCall is trying to counter now but instead tries to stand up and manages to escape and find his way to his feet.  Dusty Whittaker halts the fight to stand up Brendan McCarthy. The fight resumes with both fighters standing. Both fighters continue the fight on their feet. You can hear how the crowd agrees with that decision.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Solid strategy for McCall to get out of that dangerous situation and bring the fight back on their feet.

[Byron McCall chases McCarthy and launches a few perfect strikes. Here we go! McCarthy steps backwards when those punches connect with his face. Brendan McCarthy attempts a sweep single but Byron McCall was ready and shrugs off the takedown attempt. The two exchange wildly. McCarthy is connecting with a few punches. McCarthy continues to move forward looking for some action but Byron McCall doesn't want to engage and backpedals. Quickly, McCarthy shoots and latches onto McCall’s left leg, trying to take him down. Byron McCall loses balance and goes to the ground.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Great exchange here and another great takedown from McCarthy!

[Brendan McCarthy is in side mount over Byron McCall. Not a desirable position that McCall is in now. Brendan McCarthy is well known for his strong and relentless GnP. McCarthy tries to open up McCall with a few strikes with his right elbow. McCall blocks a few elbows and now Brendan McCarthy will have to look for another option here. McCarthy misses a strike and Byron McCall sees an opportunity to counter him! McCall tries to show some ground skills and puts McCarthy in half guard. McCarthy positions himself and launches a barrage of punches. Shifting, McCarthy moves to full mount with ease and his punches are hitting hard on McCall's ribs. Brendan McCarthy tries to pass Byron McCall's guard and manages to get his leg free and moves to side mount. McCarthy tries to open up McCall with a few strikes with his right elbow. McCall blocks a few elbows and now Brendan McCarthy will have to look for another option here.]

CARRICK PRICE

Wonderful defense to neutralize McCarthy’s immense ground and pound. There’s just no openings there for him to deal with the sort of damage you can tell he wants to.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Gotta hand it to McCarthy though, he’s staying aggressive and not letting up even if it’s not completely working.

[The pace slows on the ground and McCarthy takes his mouthpiece out to breathe. Brendan McCarthy is trying to better his position on the ground and launches a couple of elbows against McCall's ribs but McCall blocks them expertly and tries to escape the situation. Some sloppy work from the Irishman leaves the veteran fighter with the opening he needs, and McCall quickly stands up. When the fight stalls from there, Dusty Whittaker once more stands McCarthy up, a hint of frustration showing on his face.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

McCarthy needs to do better and not allow McCall to escape to easily.

[When the fight resumes the two engage again and Brendan McCarthy throws an uppercut but McCall slips it. The two exchange wildly. McCall is connecting with a few punches. McCarthy looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Byron McCall's punches. McCarthy measures the resilience of McCall's chin with an uppercut while McCall lands some great crosses. Brendan McCarthy is measuring McCall with his jab. McCall isn't fazed. Brendan McCarthy gets sloppy and Byron McCall tries to take advantage. McCarthy attempts a takedown and McCall hops back and delivers a powerful kick to his head!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Both guys trade blows here and McCarthy tried to bring the fight back down, but McCall’s experience has kept him at bay.

[Responding to the big kick, McCarthy shoots and grabs McCall’s right leg, trying to take him down but McCall’s camp has prepared him wonderfully for his opponent, and he shows great balance while pushing the Irishman away. Byron McCall steps forward and fires a high kick! It’s a nasty one and somehow McCarthy is still standing! On pure instinct McCarthy again shoots for a takedown that’s stuffed and McCall takes advantage with some nice shots that stun Brendan but before he can take further advantage the buzzer sounds.]

CARRICK PRICE

Bad end to a round that I think was otherwise in his favor. This one was tight but I’m not sure how Brendan is still standing after absorbing those kicks and punches in the final moments of this round. I’m going to score it two rounds to none on my personal scorecard and say that Brendan needs to finish this fight in the third if he wants to stay alive in the middleweight tournament.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Just goes to show the resilience of McCarthy’s chin, but I agree he needs to protect himself better. Brendan looked much better this round, but he may be getting tired out there as Byron was able to rebound there at the end.

Brendan McCarthy’s Corner Notes:

Suffocate him with combos!

Don’t let him escape!

You need to finish him!

Byron McCall’s Corner Notes:

Watch the takedowns!

Wear him down!

You’re up on the cards, stay smart!

=========================================

ROUND THREE

=========================================

[The final round begins quickly as McCall throws a one-two combo then fakes a move to fire a big right hand on the chin! But McCarthy's defense muffles the blows. The two step in and engage in a wild exchange of punches. Both fighters are missing terribly, likely a result of the immense energy both have put out over the course of the first two rounds. Fatigue certainly has to be setting in. Brendan McCarthy jabs at McCall hitting his chest before circling out.]

CARRICK PRICE

Both men look a little fatigued coming out in the third and I can’t blame either of them. A lot of energy has been expended here tonight between the two.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

This is what we all love to see. These guys are leaving it all out there!

[McCarthy shoots for a double leg takedown but, as he has so often done throughout the fight up to this point, McCall sprawls and manages to stay on his feet. McCarthy misses a step and Byron McCall sees an opportunity to counter him! Byron McCall locks up a guillotine with an arm in and oh boy this fight could be over quick if Brendan isn’t careful! But McCarthy brings McCall down to the ground and pulls his head out finding himself in closed guard over McCall. McCarthy positions himself for a round of ground and pound and tries to finish the fight with some precise elbows! McCall attempts to cover himself and blocks those elbows. McCarthy looks to posture up and open McCall's guard but McCall has a solid guard and keeps his ankles locked.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Whew, McCarthy nearly got caught in that choke hold, he needs to be careful!

[McCarthy gets a good position on the ground but McCall holds his arms and counters his opponents punches. Moments later, McCall tries to roll on the ground! Nice reversal! He is now in full mount over Brendan McCarthy! McCarthy tries to move on the ground and escape from the full mount! He successfully moves to half guard! McCarthy launches a few punches to McCall's cheek from the guard. Byron McCall uses his head to cover the punches and presses his skull forward. Byron McCall doesn't want to continue the fight in this position and tries to get back on his feet He moves fast and now he is standing. Dusty Whittaker halts the fight to stand up Brendan McCarthy.]

CARRICK PRICE

McCarthy working well from the bottom forces McCall to stall out on the ground after a well executed reversal.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I’ve been impressed with McCall’s ground game tonight. This has been a big test for him and he’s passing with flying colors.

[The fight resumes with both fighters standing. McCarthy shoots and is holding Byron McCall's right leg... He's trying to take him down. Byron McCall loses balance and goes to the ground. The crowd gives McCarthy a bit of a bronx cheer for finally succeeding on a single leg takedown. McCall smoothly is able to get himself into a better defensive positioning, maneuvering from side mount to closed guard progressively with relative ease. Once there, he tries to roll on the ground and executes the reversal nicely, finding himself in full mount over McCarthy. Brendan McCarthy tries to roll to his side and get to half guard. Byron McCall rolls Brendan McCarthy to his stomach and takes his back!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Uh oh! McCarthy gives his back up and this could be big trouble for the Irishman!

[Deep breaths from Brendan McCarthy who tries a hammer punch to McCall's ribs. McCall blocks those punches. Brendan McCarthy gets sloppy and Byron McCall tries to take advantage. McCarthy has given his back to McCall who is trying to get one hook in! McCarthy struggles in the ground trying to break McCall's control but eventually the action stalls on the ground. The referee decides to stand up the fighters since there was not much action on the ground.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Solid defense there from McCarthy who didn’t allow Byron to get anything going.

[McCarthy fakes a punch and shoots a takedown! Byron McCall didn't see it coming and has been put on the ground! Deep breaths from Byron McCall who tries a hammer punch to McCarthy's ribs. McCarthy blocks those punches. Brendan McCarthy is in open guard over McCall, who launches a few weak punches that connect with Brendan’s ribs. Those punches are hitting McCarthy's ribs. As Brendan reacts to the strikes, McCall tries to close his guard and succeeds. With not much time left on the clock McCarthy’s corner implores him to do something but it’s evident by this point that both fighters are running on empty. Though they continue to work on the ground nothing of substance comes as the final moments of the round tick away. The buzzer sound, and the three round fight comes to its conclusion.]

CARRICK PRICE

Just nothing left in the tank for either man to really close the fight out there at the end. What a battle though. I thought Brendan carried himself respectably against a hell of a challenge, and I think Byron proved to be everything we know him to be. What about you, Harpy?

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I give all the respect to Brendan McCarthy who kept chipping away and never letting up. That’s something you have to do against someone of McCall’s caliber, but I don’t think it’s enough to score it in his favor. But now let’s turn it over to Mike Dempsey for the official judge’s call.

[The crowd roars with cheers for both men putting on a helluva fight. Doctors tend to both Brendan and Byron to ensure no major damage. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, after three rounds, we go to the scorecards. The three judges score it 29-28, 29-28, and 30-27 for your winner by unanimous decision, “The Last” Byron McCall!

[The crowd cheers once again as McCall has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

["No Smoke” by YoungBoy NBA begins playing over the PA system, and soon Tatum Momo’a emerges to the main stage. The crowd cheers for the 36th Street prospect as she makes her way down the aisle with members from her camp following behind. Momo’a looks focused as she doesn’t show much emotion heading to the cage.]

CARRICK PRICE

Big fight for Tatum here tonight as she looks to advance in the lightweight tournament. No doubt this would help gear her up for another fight in another company that I’ll not mention live on Union airwaves. But this could be exactly what she needs to get herself pointed in the right direction.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I completely agree with you, Carrick. Tatum is a rising star who competes in numerous promotions. She’s been making waves all around and tonight she has a shot to do it again in Union Grand Prix.

[Tatum makes it to cageside where she strips down and gets inspected by the fight official. Once she’s been cleared, she heads up the steps and takes her corner. She rolls her neck and shoulders a bit as she awaits her opponent.]

["Shira" by Glassjaw begins playing over the PA system, and the crowd grows loud with cheers. Soon, the dual-sport competitor, Natalie King, emerges on to the main stage. Her sights are clearly focused on the octagon ahead of her, as she doesn’t waste any time drawing closer with her corner crew following close behind her.]

CARRICK PRICE

Not gonna lie, Harpy, seeing this lass fight stirs my willie up. Brutal fucking knockouts whenever she steps into the cage. She’s been a fight fans dream.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

No doubt, she should be looking at a sponsorship from Minute Made rice any day now, given the fact that all three of her fights so far have yet to eclipse that mark. Get in. Get out. Get Paid. However, this is no doubt her biggest test to far, so it’ll be exciting to see how this one plays out.

[King finally reaches cageside, where she strips down to her gear and gets checked on by thenfight official. Once she has been cleared, she turns around to give a quick hug to everyone of her corner mates, then dashed up the steps, skipping every other level with her crazy long stride. King enters the cage and immediately throws a spinning heel kick, which fires the crowd up even more. She then calmly heads to her corner, where she awaits for the announcer.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

[Natalie King is beating herself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking herself in the face, body and legs to get ready for his bout.]

CARRICK PRICE

Lets go. LETS GO! I’m so ready for this fight, Harp. One of these two better gimme the knockout I’ve been dreaming of.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

That’s been the leading narrative for this one. Not many people see this fight going the distance, but the question is who will be the one left standing? That question is about to be answered right now! Our referee for this bout is Willie Green. He does a quick check with each woman and quickly calls for the bell! And this fight is underway!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The fight gets underway and the fighters meet in the middle of the ring for a gloves touch. Natalie King fakes a move and launches a liver kick! That almost wrenches Tatum Momo'a! I'm sure that her liver will be sore tomorrow.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Natalie doing what she does best and that's utilizing her feet.

[Natalie unleashes a kick. Brutal high kick to Momo'a! Momo'a's Chin is bruised alreadyand a small laceration appears as well already.. A bunch of leg kicks from Tatum Momo'a are blocked by King. Momo'a misses a step and Natalie King sees an opportunity to counter. She flares up and gets Tatum with another kick to the face! The crowd on their feet looking for a early finish in this one.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

That goddamn Bandit is viscous with those kicks.

CARRICK PRICE

Oh my Lord. Give it to me. RIGHT NOW!

[Momo'a attempts to shoot but Natalie King hops back and delivers a powerful kick to his head! Momo'a's Nose is beginning to swell. Momo'a has a small cut on her Nose. Tatum Momo'a seems hurt! She stumbles backwards and is an easy target for Natalie King! Natalie  launches aggressively over her opponent throwing some wild punches! Momo'a is knocked down after a couple of punches, hitting the mat hard! Is she out? Momo'a's Mouth is beginning to swell and another small laceration is beginning to show.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

We are witnessing a murder right now ladies and gentlemen.

CARRICK PRICE

This is not the way that Tatum wanted this fight to go but Natalie King is a buzzsaw and Jesus Christ if I was Jordan Parker-Kane or August Pope I would be watching this fight extremely closely.

[King is standing while Momo'a is on the ground on her back. Momo'a doesn't stop bleeding. Natalie King creates space and allows Tatum Momo'a to stand up. Tatum Momo'a still hurt stumbles her way back to her feet. Tatum Momo'a goes with a looping right hand while Natalie King jumps back and jabs. That one hits but King seems unaffected, countering with a few punches of her own. Great exchange here.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Tatum face looks bad but right now she's showing heart and courage.

CARRICK PRICE

If she can weather the storm she can crawl back into this but man, what a storm it is to weather.

[King decides to launch some tentative punches. Natalie King takes the best of a brief punching exchange. King throws a hook that hits its mark and then unleashes a brutal high kick that absolutely flattens Tatum Momo’a. Natalie King turns and is swiftly embraced by her corner as they celebrate the sudden knockout victory while the cageside doctor is quickly ushered into the ring to check on the fallen fighter, blood spilling from the cuts she suffered at the hands of the victor dripping onto the canvas.]

CARRICK PRICE

So much for weathering the storm. Christ. What an impressive display.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

This was a slaughter. Congrats to Natalie but you can't help but feel for Tatum who got her face kicked in tonight.

[The crowd explodes into cheers and Natalie King is swarmed by her corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Momo’a for a while before helping her to her feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Willie Green has called for a stop in this fight at 2 minutes 1 second in the very first round, for your winner by knockout, Natalie “The Bandit” King!

[The crowd cheers once again as King has her hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

YEAH, I'MA GO FUCK THAT BITCH

I'MA GO THRASH THAT BITCH

SHAWTY GON' SUCK THIS DICK

SHAWTY GON' SUCK THIS DICK

[“R.I.P.” by Playboi Carti thumps over the loudspeaker and Asher Jrue emerges to the stage wearing his grey and yellow walkout fight kit with crew members from his 9th World camp following behind. Jrue has a relaxed look on his face as he sways back and forth down the aisle.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Big test coming up for the young rookie, Asher Jrue. Jrue made his professional debut at UGP 13 where he pulled off an incredible flying omoplata to secure the submission win and earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. He’s going to need to pull all of the tricks out of the bag for this seasoned veteran he faces tonight.

CARRICK PRICE

Indeed. Navorro Williams is one of those guys that I was taught to respect and genuinely appreciate when I was first getting into the fight game a few years ago. He is confident. At times he’s cocky. But beyond anything else, he’s deadly with his submissions. If Asher Jrue can impress against a guy like Williams, the middleweight division will be put on notice.

[Jrue makes it to cageside where he is checked by the fight official. Once he’s cleared, he races up the steps and jogs around the cage a couple times before staying put in his corner.]

I'M, I'M, I'M, I'M

I'M OUT OF MY, OUT OF MY MIND

OUT OF MY FUCKING MIND

I'M, I'M OUT OF MY, OUT OF MY MIND

OUT OF MY FUCKING MIND

[The lights dim as "Out of My Mind" by B.O.B feat Nicki Minaj plays with a loud boom all throughout the arena. Coming out in his THRONE MMA gear the 'WATCH THE THRONE' written in eccentric gold lettering over his black hoodie. The sleeves of the hoodie are tied behind his back looking like a straight jacket which has him keeping his arms down at his sides. His THRONE MMA training staff around him as Navorro Williams steps forward with his head down and covered by the hood of the hoodie. B.O.B keeps his flow going as Navorro steps forward slowly with his head still down until... "If these niggas go dumb, I go to the mental facility See, man I'm so out there, I slap fives with E.T." (SLAP!!) Williams head immediately shoots up at the slap looking at the closest camera in front of him with his face covered with a Hannibal Lecter type of mask as his eyes are the color of solid gold. The contacts play right into the insane way his eyes roll left to right with SoVo glaring his teeth under the mask. Navorro buys into the moment being the off-kilter character he's known to be while smiling wildly heading to the cage.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And now the return of Vo Daddy since the company break, and he is just absolutely feeding into the crowd’s reaction. There’s been a bit of an attitude change for Williams leading up to this fight that he said is attributed to his slow start here in Union GP.

CARRICK PRICE

It’s the Navorro Williams of old. Anything and everything to get into the head of his opponent will be employed.

[His head knocks left to right erratically looking around at the fans as he reaches the pad in front of the cage where his team starts taking off all of his gear and his gold/grey vale tudo shorts are checked by the Union GP staff. The vaseline is spread along his face, he exposes his 'VODADDY' black/gold mouthguard, and he gently taps his cup to enter the cage to the boos he loves and adores.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, the following bout is scheduled for three rounds in the Union Grand Prix Middleweight Division. Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler with a professional mixed martial arts record of 1-0. He stands at 5’11” and weighing in at 185 pounds. He is from Miami, Florida, fighting out of the 9th World Performance Institute, he is “Simba” Asher Jrue!

[Asher Jrue doesn't look concerned about anything his opponent brings to the table as he nonchalantly sways back and forth on the balls of his feet.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler with a professional mixed martial arts record of 16-6. He stands 5’10” and weighing in at 175 pounds. He is from Las Vegas, Nevada by way of Washington D.C. and New Orleans, Louisiana, fighting out of Throne MMA, he is “Warrior” Navorro Williams!

[Navorro starts to hype himself up by beating his chest, letting out a loud roar, and flexing in front of the camera.]

CARRICK PRICE

I’m not entirely sure if I’m a fan of the apathy that Asher is showing towards Warrior, but I can appreciate the confidence. Just not sure it’s wise when the man standing across from you is of the ilk of Navorro Williams.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

You can't teach these youngin's any respect these days. And we are all set to get this bout between two grappling and submission artists kicked off. The referee for this contest is Jordan Ripley. He checks off with each fighter one last time and calls for the bell!

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The opening bell sounds and the fight gets underway. Williams moves in, wasting no time, but Jrue backpedals away. Williams is asking him if he came today for fighting or running. Finally the two step into each other and exchange wildly with Jrue connecting with a few solid jabs. Jrue looks for angles as he continues to throw a few jabs but those are countered by Navorro Williams' punches. Jrue fires off an uppercut to the chin while Williams lands some great crosses.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Solid exchange here to open the fight!

[Jrue moves forward and tries a Superman punch! That crushes Williams' face and backpedals away to regroup. Navorro launches a body shot but Jrue dodges it and catches him with a hard cross. Jrue circles away and seems hesitant as if he would give the initiative to his opponent. Jrue then attempts to cut off Williams with punches but Vo avoids getting cornered. Williams unloads with a brilliant combination that forces Jrue to try and defend better and there is a small cut on Jrue's mouth as a result.]

CARRICK PRICE

Nasty combination draws blood Asher’s mouth. Perhaps that will wake him up a bit to the level of opponent he’s in the cage with.

[Jrue steps back in and showing excellent timing, launches a stiff right hand, but Williams steps back and the punch goes wide. Asher Jrue swings again and lands a hard hook to the chin! Jrue decides to launch some tentative punches and Navorro takes the best of a brief punching exchange. A shovel hook by Asher Jrue goes nowhere. Jrue misses a step and Navorro sees an opportunity to counter him and shoots for a double leg takedown! He hits it! Asher Jrue is taken off his feet, but he manages to pull Williams into his guard.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Good timing and patience for Navorro. He takes the fight to the mat now where it’s really both fighters comfort zone.

[Williams is in closed guard over Jrue. He tries to improve his position on the ground as he sits on his knees and tries to break the closed guard. Jrue, however, leans forward and gets Navorro's arms as he brings him back to the ground. Asher Jrue overhooks the arm and starts cranking! Interesting maneuver but Williams is able to pull his arm out of danger. Jrue reaches under and rolls for a kneebar but Williams blocks the attempt and uses the opportunity to seize half guard.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Asher tries to work in some offense from the bottom but Navorro stays one step ahead of him as he moves to half guard.

CARRICK PRICE

Sometimes this sort of high level ground game can come across as a bit boring to the fans at home but man, the strategy, technique and precision that goes into two men of this caliber executing like this on the ground is tremendous.

[Asher Jrue overhooks an arm again and starts cranking but Williams once again pulls his arm out of danger and moves to side mount. Jrue tries to trap Williams in his guard but Navorro keeps control and remains in side mount. Asher attempts to trap Navorro in his guard once again, but this time he manages to switch to half guard and eventually close his guard. Navorro postures up and forces Asher Jrue to open his guard. Jrue then reaches under and rolls for a kneebar! Williams blocks the attempt and uses the opportunity to seize half guard. Williams is trying to counter now! Navorro Williams tries to pass to half guard but Asher Jrue closes his guard to prevent the pass. A stalemate ensues with neither fighter gaining any control, and referee Jordan Ripley stands the fighters up due to a lack of activity. Both fighters have climbed to their feet and the fans in the Moda Center are cheering for the fighters.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Some intense strategic maneuvering on the ground there but neither fighter is able to accomplish much and Ripley decides to stand them back up.

CARRICK PRICE

Man… let them keep going. I’m loving it!

[Both fighters circle around looking for angles, and Navorro Williams tries to bring the fight to the ground with a double leg takedown. Jrue didn;t see it coming and gets planted back on the mat. Williams is in open guard over Jrue on the ground, and Jrue works to get an arm and tries to apply an armbar. Williams spins out, but Asher Jrue was ready for it and quickly switches to a triangle choke! The crowd gasps for a moment but Williams is too good and manages to back out of danger and get to his feet. Jrue quickly follows him up and we’re back to the beginning.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Asher Jrue is showing some high level submission intellect far greater than his experience would suggest. I think Navorro has taken note of it.

CARRICK PRICE

The pressure is there and no doubt Navorro has taken note of it. But Asher might also want to note that everything he has done, Vo has been prepared for and been able to defend.

[Asher Jrue fakes a move and moves laterally. He jabs at Williams to no visible effect but to measure his range. A shovel hook by Asher Jrue follows and tags Williams. Navorro and Jrue then step into each other and engage in a wild exchange of punches! Both fighters are connecting and this could be ending soon if either lands a lucky punch!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Big bombs being dropped here and this one could be over soon! Did not expect to see this much striking from two grapplers but the crowd here is loving every minute of it!

[The fighters finally back off and size each other up in the center of the cage. Asher Jrue tries a hook to the body and hits Williams' ribs hard. He continues to move forward, looking for a hole in Navorro’s defense. Jrue and Williams circle around the center of the cage for a little while longer before the referee separates the fighters as the buzzer sounds.]

CARRICK PRICE

Great exchange to bring the round to an end. Jrue has shown himself unafraid of the moment but Navorro has continued to prove that he is just as game as the young Simba is.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A very exciting first round from these two, which is something we came to expect. Pretty even for the most part, but I might give the edge to Williams.

CARRICK PRICE

It was a draw for me. Asher was constantly pressing the action and was aggressive throughout. He landed some good strikes too, especially at the end. But Vo kept pace the whole time. The judges might split hairs over this one but I think you call it even, personally.

Asher Jrue’s Corner Notes:

Keep that high tempo!

Be careful with the submissions!

You won that round!

Navorro Williams’ Corner Notes:

Keep up with stuffing his submissions!

Initiate some offense!

Stay focused!

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[The second round begins and both fighters look a little gassed as neither one initiates any offense to start. Finally Jrue goes to the body and lands a couple of hooks to Navorro’s ribs. Both fighters circle around to the center of the cage once again. Asher fires of a quick combo of jabs and Williams staggers back. Jrue wants to finish this now and continues launching bombs! Navorro paws at Jrue but he answers with more solid punches! Asher closes the distance with his opponent wanting some action and the two engage in a wild exchange of punches! Navorro Williams is getting the best of the exchange as he lands a few blows.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

More stand up from both guys, but you can start to see the energy getting zapped from both Williams and Jrue. I think they’re still reeling from that fast first round.

CARRICK PRICE

No doubt, and I think that favors the veteran if this becomes a war of attrition.

[Navorro Williams paws at Jrue again and answers with more punches. Asher fakes a move and launches a nice uppercut and it lands flush on Williams' chin. Williams leads with a punch and Asher dodges it and lands flush with a counter uppercut! Jrue launches a combination of hooks to the body and Williams stops them with his ribs! Navorro’s body is getting worked right now! Those tremendous strikes from Jrue continue to land and Navorro may be in trouble here! A shovel hook by Asher Jrue goes nowhere and Navorro circles away to regroup now.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Asher Jrue is opening up with some very impressive striking that surprises us all. I thought he was looking tired to start off but he’s obviously found his second wind.

[Jrue looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Williams' punches. Williams is on the receiving end of a great combo by Jrue. Another shovel hook by Asher Jrue tags Williams this time. Jrue follows up with a flurry of punches but Williams slips out of danger. Asher attempts to cut off Williams with punches and Williams reels from the strikes. Tremendous strikes from Jrue continue to land! A right hand from Asher makes Williams stumble back! Williams steps forward and Asher catches him with an uppercut to the face!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Asher Jrue is lighting Navorro up in the striking department. Vo might want to look to taking the fight to the ground here or he’s going to be in for a long night.

CARRICK PRICE

He’s capable of absorbing a lot of damage but he’s going to need to start looking to initiate some offense or Asher is just going to out point him, if not completely finish him off.

[Asher Jrue fakes a move and launches a nice uppercut that lands on Williams' chin. Navorro fakes a move and moves laterally and studies his opponent looking for a hole in his defense. Jrue and Williams circle back around to the center of the cage. Jrue fakes a move and launches another nice uppercut and it lands square on the chin. Jrue now goes to the body and punishes Williams' ribs with a couple of hooks. Williams is not in a very desirable spot right now. Jrue is swinging for the fences and lands an uppercut that almost breaks Williams' jaw! Williams staggers back and Jrue looks to finish this and continues launching bombs! A Bone-shattering straight left hand from Asher Jrue puts Williams in a world of hurt! The buzzer sounds and the ref stops the action.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Man, what a big turn around for Asher Jrue. He completely manhandled Williams in that round.

CARRICK PRICE

I’m a bit surprised by Asher’s striking game as well, and clearly Navorro is. Lets see if he can make adjustments heading into the third and final round.

Asher Jrue’s Corner Notes:

Keep the pressure and tire him out!

Use the striking to keep him guessing!

You’re winning on the cards!

Navorro Williams’ Corner Notes:

Take the fight to the ground!

Don’t stand up and trade with him!

Finish the fight!

=========================================

ROUND THREE

=========================================

[The final round begins and Asher Jrue is slowing the pace of the fight a bit as he circles around. Asher sees an opening and launches a brutal straight left hand! A crispy uppercut by Jrue followed by a hard jab lands uncontested and Navorro Williams stumbles back. Asher attempts to cut him off with punches and Williams reels from the strikes. A solid shot from Asher Jrue to the body lands and you can clearly see Williams didn't like that. Asher throws an uppercut that lands solid. Asher goes back to the body with a hook and it hits Williams’ ribs hard as he holds his side in pain.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Navorro Williams is looking bad out there, Carrick. He’s done for if he doesn’t stop eating those punches.

CARRICK PRICE

And it might just be a case of too little too late even if he does find a way to get control of this round. I’m not going to lie, I’m shocked at what we’re witnessing right now.

[Navorro Williams tries to bring the fight to the ground but Jrue won't budge, and it forces Williams to pull guard. Jrue is in closed guard over Williams now. Jrue struggles on the ground and tries to break Williams' guard and eventually succeeds. Asher Jrue sees an opening and tries to finish with a leg lock! That leg lock from Asher Jrue appears to be unbreakable! Asher wrenches back with all of his might and Jordan Ripley jumps in and breaks the lock! Williams didn't want to tap but the ref decided he wouldn't be able to escape from it!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I don’t believe it! Asher Jrue caps off the fight with a textbook leglock to put the veteran away and move into the Grand Prix semifinals!

CARRICK PRICE

Wow. What a statement by Simba. What a message delivered to the entire division. After the first round this fight was all Asher. What a victory for him!

[The crowd explodes into cheers and Asher Jrue is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Navorro for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Jordan Ripley has called for a stop in this fight at 1minute 45 seconds in the third and final round, for your winner by submission, “Simba” Asher Jrue!

[The crowd cheers once again as Jrue has his hand raised in victory. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect but you can clearly see Navorro shaking his head in disapproval and disappointment before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

MASTERMINDS! WE GON' GET THIS FOREVER

YOU KNOW WHENEVER WE LINK UP, MY NIGGA

THEY THINK THIS SHIT COMES FROM OUTER SPACE OR SOMETHING

NIGGA, LET'S GET THIS MONEY NIGGA

["The Devil is a Lie" by Rick Ross ft. Jay-Z begins to throughout the arena. August Pope slowly makes his way out while bouncing to keep warm in his walkout fight kit. Just behind him, security guards and his corner crew follow his lead towards the octagon.]

CARRICK PRICE

This could be a life-changing night for August Pope. Some might say he’s getting this opportunity a little earlier than he deserves but you can’t fault him for that. He’s got the confidence of a champion already, but will he leave tonight with the title of champion as well? It’s possible. But there’s still a lot of work to be done. Up to five rounds of it, to be exact.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Whether people want to argue if he deserves this opportunity or not, the fact remains he has advanced in the Grand Prix Tournament, and this is his time. Three decisive wins with zero blemishes. Take it all in and leave it all out there!

[Pope doesn’t show much emotion as he makes it to cageside and gets checked by the bout official. Once cleared, he rushes up the steps and heads straight to his corner, shadow boxing along the way.]

ARE YOU READY

ARE YOU READY

ARE YOU READY

ARE YOU READY

LET’S GO!

[As “One for the Money” by Escape the Fate plays throughout the arena, Jordan Parker-Kane slowly makes his way out while bouncing to keep warm in his blue and silver walkout fight kit and the Union GP Lightweight Championship around his waist. Just behind him, security guards and his corner crew follow his lead towards the octagon.]

CARRICK PRICE

I don’t know what more you could say about JPK that hasn’t already been said. This is a dangerous fight for him, as it is for any fighter who steps into the cage against an opponent with one punch knockout power. But he looks ready to defend the championship he captured for a second time.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

He’s a very elusive fighter out there when he squares up with strikers. But all it takes it one clean shot and it’s over. Jordan knows this and I’m sure he will be focused on protecting himself and avoiding those hands of Pope.

[JPK doesn’t show much emotion as he makes it to cageside and gets checked by the official. Once cleared, he marches up the steps and heads straight to his corner, bobbing and weaving along the way. Herschel Warden makes his way over and takes the title off of JPK and holds it up to a thunderous roar from the crowd.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the Co-Main event of the evening! The following bout is scheduled for five rounds and it’s for the Union Grand Prix Lightweight Championship! Introducing first, the challenger, fighting out of the blue corner, a Boxer with a professional mixed martial arts record of 3-0. He stands at 6’ even and weighing in at 155 pounds. He is from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, he is August Pope!

[August Pope glares at his opponent from the opposite corner before beating his chest and pointing towards the heavens.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grappler with a professional mixed martial arts record of 9-6-1. He stands 5’7” and weighing in at 155 pounds. He is from Houston, Texas, fighting out of The Lair, he is reigning, defending, undisputed Union Grand Prix Lightweight Champion of the World, “Spidey” Jordan Parker-Kane!

[JPK is beating himself up in the corner before the fight begins, smacking himself in the face, body and legs to get ready for his first title defense.]

CARRICK PRICE

Fan polling has sixty two percent of those who voted on this match favoring the champion to retain and I think that’s a fair number. JPK is battled tested. He’s had highs and lows to his mixed martial arts career but moments like these do not rattle him. For Pope, you have to wonder how he will handle an opportunity of this magnitude. If he can keep his nerves under control I think he has a chance.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

The fans here tonight are behind him. You can hear the Pope chants all around the place! He looks calm and focused out there, so I don’t think the big stage has bothered him. And being a product of the Real Killas camp, the fighters coming out from there have a certain swagger that is unmatched in this sport. But now, we are all set and ready to get this title fight underway. Our referee for this bout is Herschel Warden. He checks off with each man and calls for the bell! And here we go!

RG_round1.png

[The fight gets underway quickly as Jordan Parker-Kane fakes a punch and launches himself over August Pope. Great move by JPK who pushes his opponent under a troublesome thai clinch. Pope tries to shrug his way out of the clinch but JPK is determined to work from the clinch. He pummels through and manages to retain his position. JPK tries a flying knee towards Pope's chest. What a move, the impact sends Pope to the fence! JPK jumps over his opponent and tries to grapple. Pope sees what was coming and ducks under his opponent and moves aside. A bunch of leg kicks from Jordan Parker-Kane are blocked by Pope. Jordan Parker-Kane gets a little sloppy and August Pope tries to take advantage with a flurry of punches but JPK slips out of danger.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And these guys do not hesitate to let it fly to open the round!

[Jordan Parker-Kane moves forward looking for some grappling action and has his opponent in a text book double collar thai clinch! August Pope pushes away JPK trying to keep the fight at striking range. JPK doesn't want to break the clinch as he still is grappling with August Pope. A dirty boxing lesson by JPK who is trying to punish August Pope's ribs with a few punches. He scores a few hits before the pain makes Pope react and defend his side. Pope’s ribs are getting hammered, they look bad! JPK throws some knees to the thighs of August Pope while in the clinch. Nothing to worry about for Pope who knows how to block them. Quickly Pope responds by holding Jordan Parker-Kane against the fence with his fingers all over JPK's face. JPK looks uncomfortable and tries to struggle off, he slides under August Pope arm and move away from danger August Pope]

CARRICK PRICE

Interesting to see JPK work out of the clinch in the early going but he’s noted for being a capable striker there. We’ll see if this trend continues.

[Immediately JPK reengages, trying to clinch and the two exchange a series of strikes that the other defends well. Soon after, however, they stall up against the fence and the referee separates the two. Jordan Parker-Kane fakes a punch and launches himself over August Pope but Pope counters with a few fake punches and then backpedals. Pope moves forward and tries a Superman punch! Bang! That crushes JPK's face and maybe his hopes of winning this fight too! Jordan Parker-Kane tries to take the action to his favorite field as he tries to grapple but August Pope swings and JPK has to retreat. Brilliant combination from August Pope that forces JPK to try and defend better.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Great timing for Pope there to keep JPK at bay. It looks like Jordan wants to keep the fight tight and not allow Pope the space to start swinging.

[The two exchange wildly and Pope is connecting with a few punches. JPK launches a hook to the body and August Pope moves aside looking for a counter. He finds it and fires off a few strikes but JPK ducks backward and avoids them. JPK jumps over his opponent and tries to grapple but Pope sees what was coming and ducks under his opponent and moves aside. JPK tries again and this time manages to push Pope against the fence, putting him in a dangerous position. The champ tries to hit him with the back of his elbow. It hits once, twice and then a third one knocks August Pope down to the canvas fully with referee Herschel Warden looking on closely.]

CARRICK PRICE

Vicious elbow knocks Pope to the ground but he seems to be recovering quickly.

[While standing and with Pope on the ground, JPK launches a kick to Pope's thigh but he checks the kick! JPK decides to go after his opponent and jumps inside Pope's guard. Immediately Pope tries to fight back with his feet and JPK just needs another plan now, keeping JPK from being able to get where he wants to go. JPK fires off another kick that Pope checks and then August quickly scrambles back to his feet. Jordan Parker-Kane moves forward looking for some grappling action and quickly has his opponent in a text book double collar thai clinch! August Pope tries to hold Jordan Parker-Kane in a clinch against the fence but JPK escapes before August Pope could keep him in place.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Pope using his size and strength to put Jordan’s want to clinch in his favor. Good move and it caused Jordan to back out of it.

[The two exchange wildly but both fighters are missing terribly. They continue to exchange and Pope manages to connect with a few strikes just as the ground concludes and the referee steps in to stop the action.]

CARRICK PRICE

Wild exchange there at the end and Pope was able to land some blows but I think this round goes to the champion. He neutralized August’s striking abilities for the most part by working from the clinch and was able to deal damage as well.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A bit of a slow start, perhaps they were feeling each other out. I’d agree that the edge goes to JPK, but Pope is by no means in any danger. Let’s see how these two adjust in the second round.

August Pope’s Corner Notes:

Keep your distance and work in those jabs!

Keep him honest with the counters!

You’re doing good, stay patient!

Jordan Parker-Kane’s Corner Notes:

Keep working the clinch!

Don’t give him any space!

Look to take the fight to the ground!

RG_round2.png

[Kicking off the second round, Jordan Parker-Kane goes with a looping right hand while August Pope jumps back and jabs. Pope seems staggered and Jordan Parker-Kane runs to capitalize with a bunch of jabs and crosses. Pope moves backwards and circles around Jordan Parker-Kane. Pope tries some clinching in order to control the fight. Well done. Pope is clinching with JPK. Jordan Parker-Kane was holding August Pope against the fence, he swings his left arm over Pope’s head and tries to hit him with a back elbow. Pope blocks that elbow and and move out of danger and then tries to shrug his way out of the clinch. However, JPK continues to be determined to work from the clinch. He pummeled through and managed to retain his position.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A little role reversal to start off as JPK initiated the striking while Pope works in the clinch.

[JPK grabs August Pope in a clinch and tries to knee him in the face! They land solid! Good Strikes! Pope's nose is beginning to swell. August Pope tries to shrug his way out of the clinch but to no avail. JPK tries to take his opponent down with a leg sweep but Pope maintains his balance and expertly moves away from the champion. He can’t stay away for long, however, as JPK quickly hunts him down and ties him up in a clinch once more. He tries that same back elbow but Pope blocks it. He tries another big elbow but again blocks it and the smirk on Pope’s face says he’s going to have to do better than that. Quickly, August shrugs his way out of the clinch, slipping free and putting some distance between them once more.]

CARRICK PRICE

August needs to get aggressive. Use his jab to keep the champion at distance. Right now Jordan is just having his way getting his hands on the challenger and keeping him tied up.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I agree. He’s holding his own so far, but he needs to start executing some offense. You don’t want to allow a guy like JPK the opportunity to develop his game.

[In a flurry the two exchange wildly, neither manages to land anything. JPK then presses the action, constantly looking to tie August back up in the clinch to neutralize his striking, but August defends well and manages to maintain the distance between them. Suddenly he answers with a series of solid punches, punishing JPK for his pursuit. The champ, however, is relentless, absorbing the strikes and continuing to look for some action.  He surprises Pope with double overhooks! Pope wants nothing of that and pushes JPK. They exchange wildly once more and JPK comes away with the advantage this time, connecting with a few precise strikes before shoving August away from him, looking to recover his breath momentarily.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

JPK is playing cat-and-mouse with the striking and Pope is falling right into it. He needs to be careful out there.

[A punch from August Pope grazes JPK's right cheek. Pope moves forward looking for some action and this time it’s JPK that’s surprised as Pope looks for double overhooks. JPK avoids, however, and fakes a punch, launching himself over August Pope to lock in him that troublesome thai clinch once again. A series of brutal elbows sends Pope to the mat and Herschel Warden once more is on high alert, looking to make sure that Pope is intelligently defending himself. A series of vicious kicks to Pope’s thigh have the challenger wincing and the distraction is enough to give JPK the opportunity to jump inside Pope’s guard and this time Pope doesn’t react quickly enough to defend against it. JPK finds himself in open guard over Pope.]

CARRICK PRICE

Another knockdown from a nasty elbow and those kicks to Pope’s thigh are punishing. More importantly, though, JPK has found himself in Pope’s guard and now can begin looking to do what he does best, and that’s submit his opponent.

[Instinctively, Pope tries to close his guard around JPK and succeeds. Momentarily JPK tries to better his position on the ground but Pope holds his head against his chin in closed guard and Referee Herschel Warden decides to stand both fighters back up as their wasn’t much action on the ground. As soon as they’re back up the fight returns to the clinch game which August quickly shrugs his way out of, looking to counter. With ten seconds left in the round, August Pope delivers brutal blows to JPK’s body and the pain on his face says everything. Pope’s corner implores him to press the action but a moment later Herschel Warden separates the fighters as the round concludes. The fighters shake hands as they head back to their corners.]

CARRICK PRICE

Crushing shot to the body of JPK by August near the end of the round but I’m not sure it’s enough to sway the judges in his favor.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

He’s looking better out there and definitely finished the round strong. That was a pretty close round, I don’t think you could argue giving the round to either fighter.

August Pope’s Corner Notes:

Open up your striking!
Don’t play his game!

You finished strong, but you’re down two rounds!

Jordan Parker-Kane’s Corner Notes:

Continue suffocating him with clinch!

Keep moving!

Setup and stay smart!

RG_round3.png

[The third begins, unsurprisingly, with JPK looking to grapple and he quickly ties Pope up in a double collar thai clinch. He throws some knees to the thighs of the challenger and those seem to be causing Pope some problems. Sensing an opening, JPK continues to punish Pope’s thighs with those nasty knees. August, desperately, shrugs off the clinch and manages to slip free of JPK’s grasp. But JPK doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all, his excellent conditioning on full display for the world in this championship fight.]

CARRICK PRICE

I think the craziest thing about JPK is that he just keeps coming forward in waves. He never lets off of you. He’s got energy by the bucket loads and right now he looks as fresh as he did at the start of the first.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

A very high motor which will surely cause major problems for his opponents in the later rounds.

[It’s only for a moment that Pope is able to get away from the clinch as JPK presses him once more and ties him back up. More knees connect, this time to the body of August Pope and his ribs are really starting to look bad. Pope’s corner is screaming for him to get out of the clinch and he certainly tries, but JPK pummels through and maintains his position. With Pope visibly pained, JPK goes for an unusual scissor takedown and both men go to the canvas, scrambling for position. When it’s all said and done it’s, unsurprisingly, the champion who has the superior position.]

[Jordan Parker-Kane is in open guard over Pope and he tries to jump to side control but Pope shows some brilliant wrestling skills, rolling and finding himself in closed guard over JPK instead. It’s not every day you see someone capable of matching JPK’s skill on the ground but it seems he’s found his match today. Quickly, JPK attempts a triangle from the bottom but Pope slips out. Throwing everything at the challenger, JPK quickly turns his hips over and switches to the armbar but again Pope slips out and quickly stands, backing away to avoid any danger. Briefly, the referee then halted the fight to stand JPK back up.]

CARRICK PRICE

Smart decision by August to get back to standing as quickly as he possibly could, and not take the bait of throwing himself back into JPK’s guard.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

He held his own though, which probably surprises many, including Jordan and his corner.

[JPK jumps over his opponent and tries to grapple. He then pushes his opponent against the fence in a plum position. August Pope pushes JPK trying to keep the fight at striking range but JPK doesn't want to break the clinch as he still is grappling with Pope. Jordan Parker-Kane fakes a few punches and tries a quick knee that connects with Pope’s abdomen and immediately the challenger clutches his stomach in pain. Pope pushes off of Jordan Parker-Kane and starts launching a flurry of hooks and body shots but JPK holds his opponent tight while he tries to cool down the action. Jordan Parker-Kane fakes a few punches and tries a quick knee and again Pope is hit in the abdomen. Those knees are just absolutely devastating.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

JPK continues to go to the body with those brutal knees and that’s gotta be taking a major toll on Pope.

[Continuing in the clinch, JPK is launching some bone breaking punches to Pope's ribs. You can see the pain in Pope's eyes. Jordan Parker-Kane postures up and launches another series of punches! A lot of them are hitting Pope hard, who may be wondering how to escape from this! JPK is throwing a flurry of punches and August Pope just can't get away! Herschel Warden may look to halt this fight soon if Pope is just going to keep absorbing those blows. Jordan Parker-Kane slightly pushes Pope into the fence and tries to calm down the action. Herschel Warden sees a lack of activity in the clinch and separates the fighters and August Pope is going to be thankful for that.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

It’s not looking good for the challenger as JPK is starting to beat him at his own game.

[It doesn’t take long for JPK to try and re-engage in the clinch and though Pope tries to get away, JPK doesn’t let him break free. He swings his arm over Pope’s head and tries to hit him with a reverse elbow. It lands and JPK continues to punish Pope with that same elbow over and over. The challenger seems dazed. JPK throws some knees to the thighs of August Pope while in the clinch. Those hits seems to be causing trouble to August Pope, who tries to shrug his way out of the clinch and his corner is relieved to see him circle out and slip free of Jordan Parker-Kane's grip. Nice job of getting out of that position. He doesn’t remain out of it long as once more JPK is able to tie him up. Quickly Pope tries to break the clinch but JPK launches a great knee when he finds just an inkling of space. The knee lands perfectly and Pope stumbles backward. While his opponent is off balance, JPK shoots for an incredible takedown that doesn’t quite score.]

CARRICK PRICE

The aggression on the part of the champion has to be wearing August down.

[Still, the fighters remain tied up in the clinch and JPK focuses on Popes ribs again. Flying Knee! It connects flush with Pope’s face and you have to imagine that one hurt. If he wasn’t already, Pope is going to have to be more careful now. JPK lands a few more blows to Pope’s ribs before sweeping him off his feet and taking him down to the canvas. Pope lands hard but it’s right as the buzzer sounds and the referee quickly steps in to separate them.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I don’t think there’s any question that JPK won that round. August Pope is starting to wear down as the fight continues. We’ll have to see how he can push through as we head into the championship rounds.

August Pope’s Corner Notes:
It’s time to start unloading on him!

Stay out of the clinch!

Watch the knees!

Jordan Parker-Kane’s Corner Notes:

Stick with the knees and elbows!

Setup the takedown!

Keep wearing him down!

RG_round4.png

[The fourth round begins and JPK still looks to be in impeccable shape, his preparation for this fight undeniable. As has been the pattern in the first three rounds, JPK looks to tie his opponent up in the clinch and though Pope tries to get free, he just can’t manage to do so. Right away, JPK looks to attack the body again. He connects with a glancing knee to Pope’s abdomen and immediately Pope knows he needs to get away. The champ doesn’t let him but as the fight slows the referee intervenes to break the clinch. With the fight at striking distance and his corner imploring him to finish the fight, Pope looks for angles and throws a few jabs that are countered by JPK’s own series of strikes. Both fighters wildly miss. Pope launches a stiff jab but JPK ducks it and snaps off a low kick to maintain distance. That kick connects with Pope’s ankle.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

I respect Pope’s will here, but he hasn’t been able to gain any traction throughout this fight.

[Again JPK moves forward, tying the challenger up in the clinch. Pope responds by pressing JPK back against the fence, pressing his fingers over JPK’s face. The discomfort is evident in the champions face and he slips under Pope’s arm and away from the brief moment of danger before reengaging and getting another good double collar thai clinch. The pattern of the fight continues as the fight stalls, Warden separates them, and JPK quickly reengages in the clinch once the fight is underway again. Pope smartly maneuvers JPK against the fence again forcing JPK to try and push him away. It works and it leaves an opening for the champion to seize an opportunity. He fakes a punch and shoots a takedown that August Pope never saw coming. In the blink of an eye the challenger is put on the ground.]

CARRICK PRICE

Perfect takedown. I think Pope is gassed, Harpy.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

It’s not looking good out there for him, Carrick. Jordan keeps pressuring him and Pope has nowhere to go.

[From open guard, JPK looks to advance his position as Pope tries to close his guard down. No luck, JPK quickly moves to side mount and then with effortless grace gets to full mount. The champion’s movements are fluid as he reaches full mount, catching Pope’s arm and looking to finish the fight with an armbar. Pain is evident in the face of the challenger as JPK tries to finish things off quickly. He’s wrenching the arm but Pope continues the fight, even as JPK extends and the arm seems to pop awkwardly. Somehow. Someway. In desperation, Pope manages to free his arm and finds himself in closed guard over JPK.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Unbelievable! I have no idea how Pope managed to break free!

[Defending that submission seems to have taken a lot out of August Pope, though, as JPK rolls on the ground and with a beautiful reversal is once more in full mount over the challenger. The champion smells blood in the water and isolates the same arm, locking in an armbar. You can see the pain reflected in Pope’s eyes. It’s a crippling lock that is absolutely devastating. Pope struggles to free himself and again, somehow, he manages to slip his arm from the hold and the fans are going absolutely wild. That’s twice now Pope has managed to stay alive when it seemed all hope was lost.]

CARRICK PRICE

How?! How?! How did JPK not put it away right then and there. August Pope is exhausted. He’s been tied up and neutralized all night long. But man, you can’t teach the kind of heart he’s shown to hold on and keep himself alive in the fight.

[Still in full mount, JPK throws a leg over and rolls it over into an armbar once again. It looks to be in tight this time. You can hear Pope snarling in pain, trying to fight against the submission hold. Finally, JPK fully secures the arm bar but August Pope refuses to tap leaving referee Herschel Warden no choice but to jump in and break the lock, bringing the fight to an end to protect the challenger.]

CARRICK PRICE

Congratulations on the victory to the champion. It was a clinical performance but… August Pope deserves a standing ovation. That kind of grit… that kind of toughness… you can’t teach.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Knocking on death’s door, Pope still didn’t quit. I don’t think anyone will argue the referee’s decision to stop the fight there. There was no way Pope was getting out and it may have saved him from serious damage.

[The crowd explodes into cheers and JPK is swarmed by his corner crew in celebration. Doctors tend to Ppoe for a while before helping him to his feet. After doctors and cut men finish their work, both fighters meet back to the center of the octagon for the official call.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Herschel Warden has called for a stop in this fight at 3 minutes 8 seconds in the fourth round, for your winner by submission, AND STILL Union Grand Prix Lightweight Champion, “Spidey” Jordan Parker-Kane!

[The crowd cheers once again as JPK has his hand raised in victory and the title wrapped around his waist. Both fighters shake hands as a gesture of mutual respect before splitting off to each one’s crew. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]

[A highlight reel showing moments from Zion Momo’a’s professional career up to this point begins to roll as "Hate or Glory" by Gesaffelstein plays over it. The montage starts off with the vicious head kick KO over Jeremiah Ford at Elite’s charity event, before transitioning through the various decisions that followed; The razor thin decision over Ross Hanson, the split decision over Nicky Rollings, the decision loss to Cosmo Cooper, and finally the controversial outcome in his last fight against Travis Decker. Zion begins speaking as the most recent scene plays.]

ZION MOMO'A

All I’ve heard since this moment was how I don’t deserve to move on in this tournament… how I don’t deserve a crack at the champion. You know, maybe you’re right. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I lost that fight against Decker. I know that he took me down at will, and that there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. I know that due to my own stupidity, I injured my hand before that fight... but it’s no excuse. I lost. Plain and simple.

[The montage changes to a laser focused Zion grinding away in the gym in preparation for this fight. He’s seen doing battle ropes, rolling with Tyberius King, working on takedown defense with Tom Pendergrass, and dismantling multiple sparring partners in the cage. He looks fresh, primed, and more determined than ever as he sharpens his skills ahead of the bout. The scene then transitions to weigh-ins, showing the faceoff between Zion and the reigning champion, Robert Guilliman, before going black. The music stops and all that can be heard is the challenger’s voice.]

ZION MOMO'A

I’m coming to Portland Oregon with EVERYTHING to prove. I’ve dreamt about this moment since I was a kid. A shot at being a champion. A spot in the main event. A chance to etch my name in the annals of MMA history. This is everything that I've worked my ass off for since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I’ve come to terms with the idea that some of you think I don’t deserve it. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I may have lost a lot of fans over the controversy…. But I WILL NOT come to terms with just laying down like a dog and just letting this opportunity pass me by. I’m going to use this to prove that I belong in there with guys like Travis Decker, Byron McCall, and Robert Guilliman. I’m going to prove that these last few fights have been a run of bad luck. It’s time to turn it all around. It’s time to prove to YOU that I belong, because quite frankly?  I KNOW I do. This fight is going to be a brawl for the ages.

Don’t blink.

UGP14_ITC_GUILLIMAN.png

[The scene begins with Guilliman turning the lights on of an equipment room, where a heavy bag is hanging still, dressed in a blue tank top and his blue trunks.]

ROBERT GUILLIMAN (Voiceover)

I am now simply the best in the Middleweight Division. Longest-reigning champion and the one with most defenses. All but one fight won via knockout, all but one of those wins in the first round, and the only loss via decision and later avenged. Most fighters would count that as the proudest achievement of their careers, knowing that their contribution to their camp, the promotion they are in, and the sport as a whole has been done.

[The Primarch looks at the camera, face as if sculpted in stone, and shakes his head no.]

ROBERT GUILLIMAN (Voiceover)

But to me? This next fight is what counts the most.

[Instantly after the words, the camera transitions to Guilliman laying blow after blow on the heavy bag, the thudding impacts of each hit sounding hard across the otherwise empty room. Left roundhouse, low uppercut, right middle, left straight, right roundhouse that shakes the bag almost to a blur - the Primarch spares no energy in bringing down his manifest might on the bag under the watchful eye of BJJ Coach Cipriano Carvalho.]

BJJ COACH CIPRIANO CARVALHO

Isso assim, Primarca, isso assim! Zion Momo’a è ràpido, mais mantenha essa mesma energia e acertá-lo com força!

(Just like that, Primarch, just like that. Zion Momo’a is fast, but keep that same energy and hit him hard!)

[This time the camera transitions to the Primarch inside the training cage, and a sparring partner already in action. Guilliman is closing in and the partner attempts a kick, which Guilliman blocks. But the Primarch doesn’t let up and delivers a roundhouse of his own that sends him staggering to the cage.]

BJJ COACH CIPRIANO CARVALHO

Bom, bom! Vá para o K.O. agora!

(Good, good! Now go for the K.O.!)

[Guilliman rushes the sparring partner launching a barrage of punches, almost at the corner of the cage, until Coach Carvalho moves in to break the two up.]

ROBERT GUILLIMAN (Voiceover)

Firstly, I entered the Middleweight Tournament as the Champion, and it is only natural I intend to leave it as such. Zion Momo’a is just another step towards that, but this is not entirely about myself.

[One more transition, this time to a close-up of the UGP Middleweight Champion speaking into the camera - beads of sweat running from his forehead to his chin after the training session on the heavy bag.]

ROBERT GUILLIMAN

This is about the great opportunity that lies ahead for the Real KILLAS camp. Donnie Calabrese finally won the Heavyweight Title, Roscoe Robinson successfully retained the Cruiserweight Title, and I have held the Middleweight Title all this time. Now on UGP #14 August Pope has a Lightweight Title bout. Should he win, that makes all of the Union GP Titles in the hands of the Real KILLAS. No MMA camp has done that until now, and no one but the KILLAS have come close to that as we all are at this point. So it is my responsibility not just as Union GP Middleweight Champion to retain, but as a member of the Real KILLAS to make certain the KILLA empire is fully conquered, and that at the Union GP Anniversary show, we KILLAS come as Champions of every weight class in UGP.

[Back to the sparring session and this time it’s the sparring partner rushing towards Guilliman and attempts to launch a kick, but the Primarch grounds him with a single leg takedown.]

BJJ COACH CIPRIANO CARVALHO

Muito bom! Boa defesa, boa defesa.

(Very good! Good defense, good defense.)

[Guilliman is on full mount over the sparring partner, and so begins laying on the ground and pound.]

ROBERT GUILLIMAN (Voiceover)

The skill set of Zion Momo’at is not too different from my own. Primarily a kickboxer, great power and speed in strikes. His quickness and agility in particular are an advantage he may have over me, but of course - I am about seven or eight years his elder. But hit anything hard enough to stop moving, and that advantage soon vanishes, and as I am certain I have proven with every other opponent - it usually doesn’t last more than a round.

[More ground and pound strikes on the downed sparring partner, and one more time Coach Carvalho comes to separate the two. After this the camera cuts to a close up of Coach Carvalho.]

BJJ COACH CIPRIANO CARVALHO

Nunca vi ao Primarca tão concentrado. Esta luta é importante para ele porque ele quer chegar ao aniversário da Union GP ainda como o campeão, e possivelmente enfrentar outro KILLA nas finais do torneio Middleweight.

(Never have I seen the Primarch this concentrated. This fight is important to him because he wants to make it to the Union GP Anniversary still the Champion, and possibly face another KILLA in the Middleweight Tournament finals.)

[Back to the heavy bag session and Guilliman is still wobbling the bag back and forth with his deadly striking game.]

ROBERT GUILLIMAN (Voiceover)

I have come this far. I don’t intend to stop now, be it Zion Momo’a or anyone else that stands in front of me in the cage. Because the glory of going through the Middleweight Tournament as champion back to back aside, this isn’t wholly about myself. It’s about the people that have stood behind and around me all this time and the drops of sweat and blood that each and every one of us has put into the brand of excellence that has, in a year, turned the Real KILLAS camp into the best there is.

[One final high roundhouse kick, another strong reverberating echo from the impact, and a close-up shot of the Primarch breathing heavily after the exertion, looking at the bag with the hardness of steel in his eyes.]

ROBERT GUILLIMAN (Voiceover)

Come UGP #14, I will keep that banner raised high, and God willing, perhaps August Pope will once again bring the Lightweight Title back into the Real KILLAS fold, and the KILLAS will have finally conquered it all.

[The training session now over, the camera cuts back to the Primarch leaving the equipment area, the heavy bag now as still as it was before he arrived, and giving the camera a final look from behind before he turns the lights off.]

ROBERT GUILLIMAN (Voiceover)

And I will come into the Union GP Anniversary show as STILL the UGP Middleweight Champion.

[Fade to black.]

UGP14_guilliman-vs-momoa.png

["Middle Child” by J. Cole bumps over the loudspeaker and Zion Momo’a emerges to the stage wearing his black and blue walkout fight kit with crew members from his camp following behind. Momo’a bobs his head to the music as he slowly makes the walk to the cage.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Making his way to the octagon at this time, the young 36th Street prospect Zion Momo’a has the opportunity of a lifetime just ahead of him. The big controversy obviously surrounding the man comes from his last fight in Union GP, where he scored a split decision victory over Travis Decker. As we mentioned at the top of the show, none were more critical than Zion himself. However, he has pleaded that he deserves to be here and will erase the doubters and naysayers. What do you think, Carrick?

CARRICK PRICE

Look, you can argue the decision from the fight with Travis Decker all you want. I think all of us clearly saw it as a win for Decker but the judges scored it differently and that’s why, when you’re in the cage, you never want to leave the decision in the hands of the judges. Zion hasn’t done anything wrong. What was he supposed to do? Forfeit a victory that was fairly earned? It’s a shame that things work out this way but sometimes it is what it is. What Zion needs to be focused on now, is the massive fight he has against a champion that has made short work of so many other fighters who have stepped into the cage with him. If his head isn’t one hundred percent focused on that, he’s going to be in for a rough night.

[Zion makes it to cageside where he strips down to his gear and gets checked by the fight official. Once he's been cleared, he jogs up the steps and explodes with a huge leap into the cage. Momo’a makes a b-line to his corner, where he leans into the fence a few times to hype himself up.]

[The arena lights die down for a brief moment as the chords of "Angels of Death by Doyle D. Donehoo blare throughout the P.A. system, then flicker between blue and white as "The Primarch" Robert Guilliman strides out of the entrance. The crowd grows with cheers to show their adoration for the lethal champion. Guilliman makes his way down the aisle with members of the Real Killas camp following close behind]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And now for the second Super Show in a row, Robert Guilliman makes the final walk out of the night. What can you say about this guy that hasn’t already been said before? He continues to prove he’s one of the most lethal strikers in all of MMA, but can he do it again against a guy with such a high motor like Zion Momo’a?

CARRICK PRICE

He’s one of Real Killa’s finest, there’s no doubt about that. And unlike many in his position I don’t think you need to worry about arrogance or lack of preparation. He’s certainly confident in himself, and in his own abilities, and speaks with a matter of factness about the result of any fight he heads into. But this man takes pride in everything he does. Zion Momo’a might be his kryptonite, but man those kicks of The Primarchs can bring any motor to a halt in the blink of an eye.

[Guilliman marches down the aisle decidedly, with a heavy air of concentration about him, then salutes solemnly to the audience and staff. He finally reaches cageside, where he strips down and gets checked by the fight official. Once he’s been cleared, he enters the cage and starts a small warm-up routine.]

He is from Los Angeles, California, fighting out of 36th Street MMA, he is ”The Blasian Buzzsaw” Zion Momo’a!

[Zion Momo’a steps out from his corner and bows his head down in the respects of a true, traditional martial artist.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner, a Kickboxer with a professional mixed martial arts record of 7-1. He stands 6’1” and weighing in at 185 pounds. He is from Los Angeles, California, fighting out of Real Killas MMA, he is the reigning, defending, undisputed Union Grand Prix Middleweight Champion of the World, ”The Primarch” Robert Guilliman!

[Robert Guilliman never breaks focus on his opponent from across the octagon as he bounces in place to stay loose and ready.]

CARRICK PRICE

You have to appreciate the respect that Zion has shown the champion, and I’m sure somewhere deep down The Primarch does too. But that can come after. There’s business to take care of now.

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And we are all squared away for this main event bout! The Union Grand Prix Middleweight Championship is on the line, and the winner officially moves into the finals of the Grand Prix Tournament. Our referee for this main event contest is Dusty Whittaker. He checks off with each man one last time, and now he calls for the bell! And here we go!

RG_round1.png

[Guilliman and Momo'a move forward as the bell signals the beginning of the fight! Guilliman immediately starts by spinning around and trying for a spinning back kick, but Momo'a ducks under and closes the gap by rushing him and grappling, pushing him forward with double underhooks. Guilliman throws a few strikes from the clinch, managing to maintain his position before he ducks under Zion’s embrace and tries to move away, successfully putting distance between them before he fires off a high kick, but it falls short of the mark as Zion sees it coming and avoids it.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

The Primarch wasting no time in this one firing off some of his signature deadly kicks. Fortunately for Momo’a, none of them land.

CARRICK PRICE

Swear to Christ my heart skips a beat every time he throws one of those.

[Guilliman launches a stiff jab that Momo'a ducks, before countering with a solid kick that connects right below Guilliman’s ribs. Guilliman fires back with a low kick that fails to land then connects with a second one that Zion blocks. Momo'a then explodes with a flurry of punches, swinging for the fences and connecting with a huge hook to Guilliman's jaw! Robert recovers before throwing another solid kick to the leg but Momo'a checks it before connecting with another vicious middle kick! That lands hard on Guilliman's ribs! This time Guilliman falters a step and Zion smells blood, going in for the finish but catches a brutal high kick to the head from Robert, making a small cut on his left cheek. Zion stumbles back but catches Robert coming in, showing excellent timing as he blasts Robert Guilliman with a right hook to the jaw! The shot catches Guilliman off balance and he slips to the ground!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

What an exchange here! Zion Momo’a is showing his high volume attacks in this one, keeping Guilliman guessing!

CARRICK PRICE

Jesus, I don’t know that you can score that a full knockdown for Zion but I’m not sure Primarch has ever been put in this kind of position before.

[Momo'a is standing while Guilliman is on the ground on his back. Guilliman tries to hit Momo'a with a kick to his knee from the ground but he dodges it before taking advantage with a kick to Robert’s thigh, a loud pop being heard throughout the building. Zion Momo'a then steps back and allows Guilliman to get back to his feet, and he does so. Guilliman throws another kick that misses its mark before Zion launches a couple of jabs, but they are immediately answered by a stiff cross! Solid exchange! Robert Guilliman just won't stop and continues to rain punches, but Momo'a quickly defends. Guilliman looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Zion Momo'a's punches. Both men are connecting heavy as Robert measures the resilience of Momo'a's chin with an uppercut while Momo'a lands some great crosses.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Incredible back and forth here. If these two keep up this pace, there’s no way we’ll see the fifth round.

CARRICK PRICE

Not a fan of Zion’s decision to let Guilliman get back to his feet. Make the referee force that decision. You don’t ever want to let this guy be in a position where he can take you out with one of those head kicks. His upkicks from the ground are dangerous enough but at least you’ve got him neutralized to a certain extent on his back. Zion may regret that decision, especially after that exchange.

[A bad move from Zion Momo'a as he almost puts his head in the path of Guilliman's kick, but once again manages to avoid it at the last second. Before Robert can fully regain his footing Zion switches things up by shooting for a takedown, successfully bringing them both to the mat. He then delivers a hard blow to Guilliman's midsection, him wincing from the pain. Zion Momo'a is in open guard over Guilliman. Guilliman tries to close his guard around Momo'a but he manages to work to maintain his position. Deep breaths from Robert Guilliman who tries a hammer punch to Momo'a's ribs, but he manages to block those as well. He launches a few more weak punches but Momo'a blocks them effectively before managing to bypass Robert’s guard and transition into half guard. Once in that position Zion tries to work from it, but Robert manages to successfully stall him, and the referee deciding to stand up the fighters since there was not much action on the ground.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Zion Momo’a is creating some excellent pressure on the champ, never giving him a second to collect himself or room to go for the kill shot. But now they’re back to the feet and we all know what Guilliman is capable of standing.

CARRICK PRICE

The champ was breathing hard on the ground there. I think that’s where Zion wants to take this fight and keep it if at all possible. But it’s hard to be constantly working and if you give the referee a moment to stand things up, he’s going to do it.

[Both fighters continue the fight on their feet. You can hear how the fans agree with that decision. Robert explodes with a right hand, followed by a 1-2 combo, but it gets deflected. He also misses a solid middle kick as well as a hook to the body, Zion managing to avoid all of Guilliman’s offence. Guilliman pushes Zion Momo'a and moves away from him. He seems to be recovering his breath before he tags Zion with a low kick, then faster than the blink of an eye, he follows up with a vicious high kick, connecting for the second time! Momo'a has a small cut visible on his chin as the blood from his cheek runs down his face. His legs buckle as he stumbles into the cage, but still stays on his feet and keeps his hands up. Guilliman launches a furious low kick, Momo'a wincing even as he manages to block it with his arm. Guilliman looks for angles as he throws a few jabs that are countered by Zion Momo'a's punches, Zion connecting with a great combo! Zion looks like he wants to try and push the pace, but the buzzer sounds to signify the end of the round as the referee separates both men as they head to their corners.]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Impressive first round from both fighters. Momo’a kept the pressure on throughout most of the round, but right there at the end, Guilliman was able to land some damaging strikes. I think Momo’a gets the slight edge in this one.

CARRICK PRICE

I’ve got it scored for Momo’a as well. He was clearly the aggressor and his gameplan seems to be testing the conditioning of the champion. I’m not sure this can be maintained for five rounds, and we know all it takes is one kick from the champion to bring the fight to its conclusion. But it’s a good start from Zion.

Zion Momo’a’s Corner Notes:

You won the round, but you’ve gotta watch those head shots!

Keep the pressure on him!

Finish the fight!

Robert Guilliman’s Corner Notes:

Keep going for those head kicks!

Wear him down!

Finish the fight!

RG_round2.png

[Both men meet in the middle of the cage and touch gloves as the second round begins, but Robert wastes no time as he goes head hunting again with that kick, but he narrowly misses! He manages to adjust and fires another kick that connects hard with Zion’s leg, causing him to wince in pain. Guilliman moves in to trade punches, managing to outbox Zion and cutting him open above his right eye. Zion’s cornermen did their best to clean up his prior cuts, but they are still bleeding as well. Zion Momo'a and Guilliman engage in a wild exchange of punches, but neither managed to cause any real damage. Both men get their distance and circle each other, the crowd going nuts for this action!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

Looks like Momo’a has a pretty nasty cut above the eye, which could possibly interrupt his vision as time passes.

CARRICK PRICE

Not good. Not good at all.

[Both men nod at each other out of respect before Guilliman closes again, spinning around and connecting hard into Momo’a’s ribs with a spinning back kick! Momo'a's just wrenches, as his blood is starting to drip onto the mat! Zion is reeling as Guilliman goes for another brutal kick to the midsection, this time Zion managing to block it with his arm! Wow, that was loud! He clutches his arm for a second and tries to shake it out. Zion stumbles backwards as Robert tries to trap him against the cage. Zion trying for a single leg to take him down, but Robert Guilliman hops back and delivers another powerful kick to his head! That brutal impact left Momo'a laid out on the mat face first, his blood staining where he lands!]

TOUSSAINT HARPER

And this one is all over! Chalk this one up as another stunning knockout victory for The Primarch! What incredible precision!

CARRICK PRICE

Momo’a did the right thing. Shooting for that takedown to try and buy himself time to recover but Guilliman is just too good and those kicks are just too deadly. That was absolutely nasty!

[Robert Guilliman's corner pours in to congratulate him as he celebrates with the fans! After a bit he goes to check on Zion who is being looked at by his team and the medical staff, shaking his hand before both men meet in the centre for the official announcement.]

MIKE DEMPSEY

Ladies and gentlemen, referee Dusty Whittaker has called for a stop to this fight at 1 minute 50 seconds in the second round, for your winner by knockout, AND STILL Union Grand Prix Middleweight Champion, “The Primarch” Robert Guilliman!

[The crowd continues to cheer as Guilliman has his hand raised in victory and the title wrapped around his waist. Guilliman says a few words to Zion as he nods, the men shaking hands again before parting with their crews. A graphic pops up on screen, breaking down the statistics of the fight as the commentators recap.]
