FAN POLL: 79% Megan Reed

REFEREE: Dusty Whittaker

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[Both fighters touch gloves, and Sinani’s immediately on her bicycle, circling away from Reed’s power hand--something Reed very much notices, and feigns a quick step forward, that makes Zoe retreats a couple steps. Megan chuckles and throws a quick one-two combo that slips through Zoe’s guard! Zoe returns fire, but Megan avoids most of the contact and counters with a round kick to the midsection, that Zoe only just manages to parry. Sinani pushes forward and throws a few quick punches that connect, but Reed absorbs the contact and counters with a straight right hand that connects with Sinani’s nose! She stumbles backwards a step or two, and Reed unloads! Several strong straight punches, then a hook that connects with Zoe’s jaw! Zoe stumbles back against the cage, but when Megan moves in to capitalize, Zoe ducks away from any more shots and moves back to the center of the cage.]

[Reed doesn’t give her much time to recover, though, moving forward with a couple jabs that don’t make contact, but force Zoe to be aware of them. Zoe tries to step inside, into clinch range, but Megan throws a middle kick to keep her at bay. Zoe pushes forward again, and when Megan throws a low kick to keep her at range, she manages to avoid it, causing Megan to lose her balance! When Megan spins back to face Zoe, she gets caught with a crisp uppercut that stumbles Reed back a couple steps. Reed tries to shoot for a takedown to buy time to recover, but Zoe pushes her aside.]

[Reed gets back to her feet, shaking off any lingering effects from the punch. Zoe presses her advantage, but Reed throws a quick hook to the body. Zoe absorbs the blow and throws a straight punch that Megan mostly avoids, but it grazes her cheek just enough to cause some movement. Zoe keeps pushing forward, throwing a few jabs that Megan counters with punches over the top. Sensing the pattern, Zoe swaps straight punches for an uppercut that connects with Reed’s chin, even as Reed connects with a cross that causes a small cut on Zoe’s cheek.]

[Zoe steps backwards and wipes at her cheek--a momentary lapse in attention that Reed takes advantage of, connecting with a powerful left hook that immediately causes some swelling near Sinani’s right eye! Sinani tries to counter with a body shot, but Reed avoids it and connects with another powerful straight punch that snaps Zoe’s head back! Reed pushes forward, winging a looping hook that cracks into Sinani’s jaw and nearly drops her! Sinani frantically throws a few punches, but none come close to connecting.]

[With Sinani throwing, but struggling to connect, Reed swaps her tactics, drops her level, and shoots for a takedown, but Zoe’s able to not only avoid the takedown, but she pushes Megan off-balance. With a moment to capitalize, Zoe throws a series of jabs that connect, but don’t do a ton of damage to her opponent. Zoe over-extends herself, though, and Megan’s able to avoid the punches before catching hold of Zoe’s head in a Thai clinch! Megan pushes Zoe up against the cage, connecting with a couple knees to the inner thigh before trying to sweep her leg out from under her, but Zoe maintains her balance and stays on her feet.]

[Megan tightens her grip in the clinch, before blasting Sinani with several uppercuts! The first couple get through before Zoe’s able to recover her guard and prevent any further damage. Zoe pushes away from the clinch, despite Reed’s best efforts, and connects with a few counter punches on the exit that put Reed on the retreat. Megan throws a low kick that Zoe easily avoids, but Zoe’s unable to avoid the right hand/left hook combo that follows. Zoe’s knees buckle and she drops to the ground, but she’s still in the fight.]

[Reed takes a couple deep breaths, almost letting her mouthpiece fall out of her mouth, before she tags Zoe’s thigh with a stinging kick. A couple punches from the top that miss are all that Megan throws, before taking a couple steps back and beckoning Zoe to her feet. Zoe obliges, getting up and immediately shooting for a takedown that manages to catch Reed off guard! She doesn’t have time to do anything with it, though, as the horn sounds to end the round.]

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[Reed doesn’t touch gloves to start the second round, but doesn’t mind taking advantage of Sinani wanting to, as she moves to the inside of Zoe’s outstretched hand to get into clinch range, once again catching her in a Thai plum. Megan lands several punches and elbows in the clinch, not even concerned with the fact that she’s backed Zoe straight into her own corner! Zoe’s cornermen are screaming instructions, but she’s unable to escape Reed’s clinch, and absorbs a flurry of punches the makes the cut on Zoe’s cheek even worse. Zoe tries to escape, but Reed clamps down on her clinch to keep her in place, before driving the air out of her with a knee to the body. A couple uppercuts follow that turn Sinani’s legs into jello, but Zoe’s still in the fight enough to try for the takedown--even if Megan just shrugs her off and dumps her to the floor, following down into Sinani’s guard.]

[Reed’s only in Zoe’s guard for a couple seconds before she starts to move, first passing into half-guard, then taking advantage of Zoe trying to counter by passing into side-mount! Sinani doesn’t look comfortable underneath Reed, and does her best to move into a better position, but eats a punch to the temple that stuns her long enough for Reed to move into mount. Zoe keeps moving, though, and almost escapes to half-guard...but Megan catches her before she can trap her leg, and ends up rolling her to her stomach, taking her back! Reed quickly gets one hook in, but Sinani’s able to block the second.]

[Reed catches Sinani with a couple punches from the top, but nothing that does too much damage. Zoe tries to throw elbows back at Megan, but she’s able to avoid them by sitting up. Zoe almost gets back to her back before Megan’s able to block the movement, but Reed just gets up to her feet rather than give Zoe a better position, beckoning her up with both hands. Referee Dusty Whittaker halts the fight to stand Zoe up, which the crowd cheer on.]

[Once they’re restarted, Megan catches Zoe with a solid uppercut that jacks her head back, following by a powerful right hook that clearly stuns her. Zoe throws a kick to try to keep Megan at bay, but it’s not particularly quick, and Reed’s able to catch it. She drags Zoe to the ground, before passing immediately into side-mount! Reed throws a couple knees to the body, then winds up a third--but when Zoe tries to block it, Megan moves easily into mount again! Zoe tries to escape, but Megan stops her from moving, and starts raining down elbows! Zoe rolls to her stomach to try to cover up more, but it’s too late--Dusty Whittaker’s seen enough, and he calls a stop to the fight!]

FAN POLL: 74% Yasmine Vermeulen

=========================================

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The fight gets underway as the bell sounds. Yasmine Vermeulen comes firing out of the gate and swinging for the fences! She launches a massive uppercut and that hit that almost breaks Lea Sun's jaw! Sun gets rocked but circles out of range to regroup. Both fighters study each other’s movement for a moment, looking for a hole in either one’s defense. Sun fakes a move and unloads a big right hand that connects! Lea follows it up with a looping left hand while Vermeulen jumps back and jabs. Vermeulen seems staggered and Sun tries to capitalize with a bunch of jabs and crosses.]

[Vermeulen avoids the dangerous strikes from Sun and fends her off with feel-out punches. Lea Sun backpedals and doesn’t look interested in engaging just yet. Vermeulen unleashes a kick that hits air and Sun counters with a head kick of her own that narrowly gets blocked! That could have ended the fight right there! Lea keeps the pressure on and comes in with a looping right hand while Vermeulen jumps back and jabs to fend her off. Sub connects but Vermeulen rolls with it and doesn’t seem affected by it and she counters with a few punches of her own. Great exchange here!]

[Lea Sun fakes a punch and shows some footwork moving aside to regroup and find her range. She circles back in and out of nowhere launches a spinning back kick! Yasmine Vermeulen was not expecting something like that and eats it right on the chin! Vermeulen’s legs look wobbly but she’s able to back away from any further attacks and takes a few seconds to recover her wits. Both fighters now circle around to the center of the cage. Lea Sun once again comes in with a looping right hand while Yasmine Vermeulen jumps back and jabs. Vermeulen is able to roll with it and not take too much damage while countering with a few punches of her own. She tries to cap off the combo with a solid leg kick but Sun deflects it and counters with a leg kick of her own and catches Yasmine off guard with it!]

[Close to the halfway mark, Vermeulen feels a sense of urgency and decides to launch some tentative punches and Lea Sun takes the best of a brief punching exchange. Yasmine tried to finish it off with a shovel hook but it only hit air. Vermeulen then steps back seems to be cooling down the fight a bit. Sun charges in and goes with a looping right hand while Yasmine Vermeulen jumps back and jabs. Yasmine has read the overhand perfectly throughout the night, as she once again rolls with it and counters with a few punches of her own. Vermeulen now comes in with a looping right hand while Lea Sun jumps back and jabs. Vermeulen gets clipped and seems staggered and Sun runs to capitalize with a bunch of jabs and crosses! Sun continues with a few jabs that are then countered by Vermeulen's punches. Both fighters slide away after the back and forth and the crowd roars with excitement!]

[Down to the final minute of the round, Sun fires off a low leg kick that fails to land and Vermeulen shows some footwork moving aside and then launching a body kick that Sun then blocks with her arm. Lea Sun steps forward and fires a vicious head kick that connects! Vermeulen looks shaky as she shuffled out of striking range and she could be in trouble now! Another head kick from Lea Sun and Vermeulen seems to be in serious trouble! Vermeulen clinches in desperation for the final seconds until the buzzer sounds! Willie Green separates the fighters and tells them to go to their corners as the round is over.]

=========================================

ROUND TWO

=========================================

[The second round begins and both fighters close the distance looking worn down but still in good spirits. Sun looks for angles as she throws a few jabs that are countered by Vermeulen's punches. Sun then measures the resilience of Vermeulen's chin with an uppercut while Vermeulen lands some great crosses and these two don’t look to be slowing down! Sun launches some tentative punches and takes the best of a brief punching exchange. Lea Sun moves forward and launches another head kick but Vermeulen reads it perfectly this time and ducks under. Vermeulen counters with an uppercut that lands solidly. The two step into each other now and exchange wildly with Vermeulen connecting with a few punches!]

[Yasmine lands several good body shots before changing levels for a sweep single! She catches Sun's far ankle and trips her to the mat while Sun closes her guard quickly. Vermeulen uses some of her wrestling skills to escape from the closed guard and jumps to side mount and the crowd is cheering her on! Vermeulen looks to pass and slides her knee across and achieves the full mount position and puts Sun in a tough spot!]

[Sun tries to move on the ground and escape from the full mount and successfully moves to half guard. Vermeulen works on the ground and manages to get her leg free and move back to side mount and takes a moment to catch her breath. Yasmine loosens up a little too much and Lea Sun manages to switch to full guard. Sun launches a few weak punches now but Vermeulen blocks them effectively. Vermeulen tries to better her position on the ground and breaks the closed guard and moves to half guard. Yasmine Vermeulen looks to mount Sun and slides her knee across and gets back to full mount. Deep breaths from Sun who tries a hammer punch to Vermeulen's ribs but she blocks those punches and moves to side mount to keep her superior position. Willie Green has seen enough and stands the fighters up due to a lack of activity.]

[Both fighters continue the fight on their feet and Sun quickly goes for a low kick which Vermeulen avoids the vicious blow. Lea Sun attempts a sweep single here but Vermeulen was ready for it and shrugs off the takedown attempt. Sub stands back to her feet and Vermeulen fires off several leg kicks, punishing Sun's legs repeatedly! Sun stumbles and struggles to stay upright and it looks like she may have hyper-extended her left knee! Vermeulen looks to go for another leg kick, but then faster than a blink of an eye, she follows up with a head kick! Sun is out! Sun is out! Yasmine Vermeulen has ended this fight in highlight reel fashion with a beautiful question mark kick!]

ROUND ONE

=========================================

[The bell announces the start of the first round and both Arnie and Griff come out of their corners tentatively circling the cage, looking for an opening in the others defenses. Huynh swings first but misses. However, Dawson stays stationary and catches a quick follow up uppercut and jab combination that causes her to stumble back. Arnie continues to press the action but Grif steps back quickly and circles out of his range with ease. When Arnie approaches again, Grif throws a big high kick to keep him at bay but it’s a sloppy one and she slips and falls after, losing her balance. Huynh approaches quickly and launches a kick to her thigh as he stands over her, connecting with a loud pop. Not wanting to take another one of those kicks, Dawson kicks her legs trying to keep her opponent away and it buys her enough space to allow her to get back up to her feet.]

[Back on her feet the two fighters exchange wildly but nothing comes of it until Grif fakes a move and launches a nice uppercut, but Arnie blocks it and makes it look easy. Getting a bit frustrated, Grif throws a kick to Arnie’s leg but he checks it and then responds with a high kick that Grif wasn’t anticipating. Expecting a middle kick, she covers her side but the high kick nearly knocks her head off and causes her to stumble back, clearly rocked by the head kick and looking to cool the fight down. Smartly, Arnie presses the action and the two again exchange a wild flurry of punches, both connecting but still standing. Standing, that is, until Grif connects with a massive haymaker that knocks Arnie stupid and flattens him. Immediately Jordan Ripley waves the fight off and the medics pour into the ring to check on Arnie Huynh as Grif returns to her corner to celebrate with her impressive knockout with the Scrapyard team.]
