Kenneth Rodriguez (0-1) vs Stevie Tavoularis (0-1)

Featherweight Bout

ROUND ONE: We begin the night here in Sin City Las Vegas, Nevada with a Featherweight Bout between Kenneth Rodriguez and Stevie Tavoularis. Both of these fighters came up short in their pro debuts and look to get back on track here tonight. As the opening bell rang, Tavoularis set the pace and came out aggressive. She looked to find her range and threw combos quickly, but Rodriguez was able to dodge anything thrown at him and work in a solid counter game. Eventually, Rodriguez was able to turn the pressure around and started landing a barrage of punches and as a result, cut Tavoularis right below her left eye. This did not deter Stevie though, as the two stepped into each other and exchanged wildly, but neither one landed anything significant. Tavoularis then caught Rodriguez off guard and wrapped him into a double collar Thai clinch. The two would pummel back and forth for position, but Tavoularis was able to secure an arm and get a standing guillotine. Before things could get worse for Rodriguez, he dropped to the ground and was able to slip his head free. The two jockeyed for position on the ground, where Rodriguez was then able to work his way into a full mount and then started dropping some heavy elbows. Tavoularis tried to protect herself and eventually rolled to escape, but Rodriguez caught her and took her back. He kept the pressure on and worked his way into getting two hooks in and flattened Tavoularis out. Stevie tried to escape, but just left openings up for Rodriguez to land some punishing elbows. As Rodriguez fully controlled the situation, he began dropping heavy punches to the side of the head, leaving Tavoularis helpless and turtles up. Rodriguez went for a Rear Naked Choke, but failed to secure it. Rodriguez then went back to the ground and pound and put Tavoularis in serious trouble. The referee looked on and warned Stevie, but it was no use as the referee would eventually step in and stop the fight.

Syn Saetang (0-1) vs Natalia Gutierrez (0-1)

Strawweight Bout

ROUND ONE: Our second bout of the evening continued the trend of “getting back on track”. Syn Saetang and Natalia Gutierrez both continue to score their first victory, and one of them will reach that goal tonight. The crowd was especially raucous for the Throne prospect Saetang throughout the fight, and it helped drive her to a great performance. The two touched gloves to kick things off before both fighters would exchange leg kicks to find their range. Saetang gets the edge as she was able to evade more strikes and counter back. Things really shifted into her favor when Saetang feinted a leg kick and switched it up with a brutal head kick. Gutierrez got cut above the eye and looked to be in some trouble early. Natalia circled away to try and regroup, but Saetang stayed aggressive and secured a double underhook clinch. As Gutierrez was trying to shrug her way out, Saetang saw an opening and came in with a flying knee to the chest. Gutierrez hunkered over in obvious pain, but Saetang continued on the attack with punches to the body. Guetierrez tried to cover up, but Saetang pushed forward and created some space to land another knee to the face and then followed it up with another one to the body. At this point in a move of desperation, Gutierrez clamps down to prevent anymore action. The referee eventually stepped in to break up the clinch. The two circled back toward the center of the octagon, where Saetang went back in with the double underhooks. She continued to work the body while Gutierrez tried to escape. Saetang then pushed her opponent up against the fence and unloaded a relentless combination, before clipping her with a final devastating elbow that dropped Gutierrez unconscious. The Vegas crowd went wild for their Throne fighter as she celebrated her first pro victory.

Dimitri Kolovik (3-2) vs Wayland Hughes Jr. (2-0)

Heavyweight Championship

ROUND ONE: After touching gloves both fighters wasted no time and started swinging at each other with Hughes landing some body shots early on. Kolovik managed to get the clinch and push Hughes against the cage and after a couple of shots, Hughes Jr lost balance and went to the ground. Kolovik had Hughes in closed guard; while Hughes looked to reverse the position, and he did after a couple of failed elbows by Kolovik. From the full mount Hughes Jr. looked to end the fight with an armbar, but Kolovik managed to avoid the submission attempt. After a period in which both Kolovik and Hughes Jr. traded positions on the ground, the referee stood them both up and the fight resumed on the feet. Kolovik and Hughes traded some punches, with Hughes having the upper hand, until Kolovik managed to get the clinch once again. Kolovik controlled the clinch with some dirty boxing, while Hughes Jr. looked to avoid getting too much damage. Kolovik tried an Outside Leg Sweep and managed to get the takedown on Hughes Jr. and begin a round of ground and pound. Crushing elbows by Kolovik, while Hughes looks to fight back. After a miss by Kolovik, Hughes managed to counter and get Kolovik in a submission maneuver in which Hughes overhooked an arm and started cranking; Kolovik struggled but managed to pull his arm out of danger as the referee stopped the action signaling the end of the round.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Kolovik

ROUND TWO: The second round began with Kolovik looking to take Hughes Jr. by surprise and he did, as he managed to take him down early on; but just as quickly as Kolovik managed to get the takedown, Hughes managed to counter it and tried to apply a triangle; but Kolovik avoided it and then started moving until he got to full mount over his opponent. After a few failed attempts at some ground and pound, Kolovik caught Hughes’ arm and tried an armbar; maybe out of pure desperation or sheer luck, Hughes managed to pull his arm out and break the lock; using the momentum to roll over Dimitri Kolovik. After not seeing much action, the referee decided to stand both fighters up and Hughes immediately shot for a takedown, but it backfired as Kolovik utilized Hughes’ momentum to get full mount over Hughes. Again, Kolovik looked to strike Hughes with some elbows. Desperately, Hughes tried to roll and move, looking to evade any significant damage. Kolovik retained his position and continued pounding away. Kolovik then changed up his strategy and tried a series of submission attempts that went nowhere as Hughes was able to defend against them. In the struggle Kolovik hit Hughes with a headbutt and the referee took a point away from him, and allowed Hughes some time to recover. Hughes attempted another takedown and managed to take Kolovik down once more; and again Kolovik utilized Hughes momentum to roll into full mount over him. But this time it didn’t amount to anything as the round was over.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 9-9 Push (19-18 Kolovik)

ROUND THREE: Both fighters look tired and began the third round with a wild exchange of punches. Both fighters were connecting and Kolovik’s nose began to show signs of bruises after some of the blows he absorbed from Hughes Jr. They began mixing things up and throwing some kicks that failed to land, but Hughes graced Kolovik’s forehead with a counter hook that opened a small laceration in Kolovik’s head. Kolovik tried a kick, but it backfired on him as Hughes managed to catch his right leg and took him down, quickly getting to full mount over Dimitri. Both fighters are struggling, but in that struggle, Wayland Hughes Jr managed to hit Kolovik with a huge elbow that rocked his head against the mat and almost got the referee to stop the fight right then and there; yet Kolovik’s resilience was in display as he quickly recovered to hit Hughes’ ribs with a couple of big punches that seemingly hit the mark. Hughes moved to rear mount and got one hook in, looking for the second one. Kolovik tried everything he knew, but Hughes threw his leg over Dimitri’s arm leaving him with just one hand to defend himself from the rear naked choke attempt. Things were getting desperate for Kolovik, but he managed to free his arm and reverse the position getting on top of Hughes Jr; yet the Russian is so tired that he could barely do anything as the referee stood both fighters up for lack of activity. Now standing both fighters swung for the fences, with Hughes getting the better of the exchange; managing to get Kolovik back to the ground. From there Hughes attempted a series of submissions that went nowhere as Kolovik managed to defend well, be it by sheer luck or by design, thing is, he thwarted Hughes attempts every single time until he couldn’t do it anymore. Hughes locked in a Shoulder Lock that Kolovik couldn’t defend against and while Kolovik refused to tap, the referee had seen enough and jumped in to break the lock awarding Wayland Hughes Jr. the victory by Technical Submission.

Derrius Webb (2-0) vs Lovelie Saint-Cyr (2-0)

Welterweight Championship

ROUND ONE: First round began with both fighters engaging in a punching exchange that saw Saint-Cyr getting the best of it, hammering Webb’s ribs early on. Webb threw a dangerous high kick, but Saint-Cyr managed to block it, and countering with a left hook that was defended by Webb. Both fighters showed their defensive abilities after the early exchange, but Saint-Cyr managed to land a few strong leg kicks that staggered Webb. They continued exchanging with Saint-Cyr hitting Webb with a high kick that bruised Webb’s nose and continued the onslaught with beautiful boxing combinations. Out of desperation Webb tried a Superman punch that landed flush on Saint-Cyr’s face and gave Webb a glimpse of hope in this fight. The two fighters continued exchanging blows for a while, neither one willing to give the other an inch. Saint-Cyr continued landing leg kick, after leg kick, after leg kick and by the look on Webb’s face it was really hurting him. After a while exchanging blows, Saint-Cyr managed to get Webb down with a single leg takedown and got to full mount. Webb struggled to get Saint-Cyr off of him or to get a better position and the back and forth continued for a while, until Saint-Cyr got an opening and started unloading with a series of elbows that opened a laceration in Derrius Webb’s mouth. After this, the ref stopped the action as the round was over.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Saint-Cyr

ROUND TWO: The second round wasn’t much different from the first as Saint-Cyr continued looking for the knockout on a very battered Derrius Webb, who was even taking his mouthpiece out to catch a breath. A huge uppercut from Lovelie Saint-Cyr opened another laceration on Webb’s chin; in what has been a very one-sided fight so far. Saint-Cyr looks to be toying with his opponent as he lands a high kick that bruises Webb’s left cheek, followed by a boxing combination and another high kick that opened a cut under Derrius Webb’s right eye. Webb turns his back on Saint-Cyr and moves away from him looking for a breather; which Saint-Cyr welcomes as he was also getting out of breath after the onslaught he had early on. Webb’s cuts started bleeding as he launched a hook to the body, but Saint-Cyr dodged it and crushed Webb’s ribs with a couple of hooks of his own. Webb’s face was a bloody mess as Saint-Cyr continued dodging everything Webb threw his way. Saint-Cyr seems to be toying with his opponent now as he throws his hands out and starts feinting as he throws some jabs at his opponent. After a bit of clowning and pandering to the crowd, Saint-Cyr hit his opponent with a coupe of jabs that opened the cut over his eye more as the referee told the fighters to go to their corners as the round was over.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Saint-Cyr (20-18 Saint-Cyr)

ROUND THREE: Webb tried to land something opening the third round, but again found Saint-Cyr checking his leg kick and countering with a blow to the head. Webb’s face continued bleeding and Saint-Cyr continued tooling with him. It’s evident Webb is having troubles seeing as he continues wiping the blood out of his eyes and Saint-Cyr continues utilizing those moments to swing for the fences catching Webb by surprise. Yet, although he's been dominating and tooling his opponent, Saint-Cyr seemed spent at this point of the fight. Webb continued trying for anything, while Saint-Cyr continued checking and dodging everything while hitting Webb with some beautiful jabs and straights and a hook that caught Webb off balance and made him fall to the ground. Webb quickly got back up as blood continued falling to the mat staining it as he pushed through. Saint-Cyr seemed tired as he was content with sizing his opponent in the center of the cage looking for an opening. With every punch Saint-Cyr lands, more and more blood covered Webb’s face to the point he was almost sporting a crimson mask at this point. Saint-Cyr looked at the ref and Webb’s corner as if to ask them to stop it, while he continued throwing punches that landed hard to Webb’s face and body. Now Webb’s left eye began to swell from the punishment and Saint-Cyr continued to land hit after hit. One has to commend Webb’s resiliency as he continued to eat punches and kicks as if they were nothing; but one also had to worry about his long-term health after all that punishment. Saint-Cyr moved away from his opponent as the referee stood between them to end the round.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Saint-Cyr (30-27 Saint-Cyr)

ROUND FOUR: Webb continued bleeding as the fourth round began, with Lovelie Saint-Cyr continuing to show his boxing skills as he landed a one-two combo on Webb’s face. Saint-Cyr continued having the center of the cage and every now and then he moved in on Derrius Webb to pound him with a one-two combo and move back out. Then from out of nowhere, Saint-Cyr pulled a spinning back kick that landed flush and it seemed as if it was it for Webb, but somehow he didn’t fall and continued fighting. Seeing his opponent didn’t fall, Saint-Cyr reverted back to his one-two combo strategy and continued to find a lot of success with it. The crowd loved the carnage as Saint-Cyr continued dominating the fight, making Webb’s blood stain the whole mat as the fight went on. Finally Webb’s corner showed signs of concern as Saint-Cyr continued punishing their fighter without a good reply from Webb. Saint-Cyr’s strategy seems to be to earn the most points he can earn and rests in between shots; then again, he went for a high kick that made Webb’s corner worry more than they had worried so far. Saint-Cyr once more heard the 10 second hits on the mat and started to walk away from his opponent avoiding giving him more damage as the round came to an end.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Saint-Cyr (40-36 Saint-Cyr)

ROUND FIVE: The whole mat is covered in Derrius Webb’s blood now as Saint-Cyr continues landing jab after jab. Now Saint-Cyr seems to be looking for the knockout, swinging for the fences and landing flush on Webb’s jaw… but the man didn’t fall! Saint-Cyr unleashes kicks and punches looking for the knockout, but some of them miss wildly, giving Webb enough of a chance to recover from those that did hit him. Saint-Cyr landed a high kick that wobbled Webb, but the man didn’t fall. Lovelie Saint-Cyr looks at the ref and to Webb’s corner and screams “Seriously!” as he continues punishing his opponent who’s a bloody mess at this point. Webb is covered in blood and fails to mount any offense and at times gives his back to Saint-Cyr who doesn’t rush to follow, instead giving his opponent enough of a space to recover and seems content with just accumulating points by hitting a few jabs. After a missed hook from Webb, Saint-Cyr landed a furious uppercut that almost put Webb into orbit, but he still stood on his feet. Saint-Cyr seemed content with just toying around in this round and as the referee separated them for the end of the fight, he simply tapped on Webb’s head recognizing the man’s resiliency, but directed a stare to his corner.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Saint-Cyr (50-45 Saint-Cyr)

Abbie Peterson (2-0) vs Alistair McKay (2-0)

Featherweight Championship

ROUND ONE: It’s time for our third Championship Bout and our Co-Main Event of the evening. The 145 pound Featherweight crown is on the line as the Twin Cities Abbie Peterson and Real Killas tryout prospect Alistair McKay look to continue their dominating win streak. As the round kicked off, you could clearly see that these two respected each other’s prowess. Things started off slow as the two circled around looking for angles and staying patient. McKay initiated the offense, landing a big uppercut while Peterson landed a few solid crosses. Peterson tried to fight behind her jab, but McKay was able to counter them. Again, McKay landed another massive uppercut, which Peterson reeled back and landed a few glancing crosses once again. Peterson tried to turn the momentum in her favor and launched a wild head kick. McKay read it perfectly and moved his head out of the way, and came firing back with a counter uppercut that nearly sent Peterson into orbit. As Peterson stumbled back, McKay rushed in and landed a big superman punch and put Peterson on dream street. In desperation, Peterson launched another head kick, but McKay ducked under it, and as he came back up, he spun around with full force and connected with a spinning back fist and turned the lights out on Abbie Peterson! And just like that, the dominating Aussie continued his first round knockout streak and capped it off with the Featherweight Championship.

Gianna Howard (2-0) vs Lilly Dunne (2-0)

Strawweight Championship

ROUND ONE: And here it is, this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the main event of the evening! The crowd was in absolute pandemonium for both fighters who represent the Vegas based Throne MMA camp. The opening round starts off with the ever respectful touch of the gloves to make it official. Gianna starts the fight off with a big combination that hits hard on Lilly, almost ending the fight right away, but Lilly quickly rallies and controls Gianna in the clinch, landing several rounds of solid punches to her ribs. Gianna finally blocks the last volley of shots, countering with an ankle trip to take Lilly down. Lilly tries to roll on the ground several times to gain top position but Gianna keeps the position before passing to half guard. She throws elbows against Lilly’s ribs but Dunne blocks them before she struggles to close the guard. Gianna manages to hold her position and eventually the ref stands them up due to no action. Back on their feet, Gianna immediately fired off a head kick, but only grazed Lilly. Gianna changed things up and started blasting Lilly with low kicks, before going high with a right hand that lands flush! Lilly throws her own right hand but it misses, before trying to clinch up again, but Gianna backpedals. She then nailed Lilly with a series of high and low punches, causing her to stumble back. Lilly recovered and forced Gianna back, but the horn sounds and round ends.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Howard

ROUND TWO: Round two opens up and we get another touch of the gloves between the teammates. Lilly goes on the offensive first and throws a hard right hand that Gianna just dodged and countered with solid punches which swell the right eye. Lilly is bleeding now as Gianna landed another big leg kick, but she pushed through and rushed in for the clinch, pushing Gianna against the cage. Lilly used it to push off and land a series of shots to Gianna, but Gianna held on tight and tried to do the same but got the same result. After some tussling in the clinch, Gianna finally breaks it and moves away. Gianna lands a series of heavy strikes before capping it off with a flying knee to the face, landing dead on but Lilly is not going down! Another leg kick followed by more punches from Gianna, the bleeding now even worse for Lilly. Lilly throws a hail mary shot but Gianna just ducks out of the way, countering with a high kick that lands dead on, but still can’t put her out. Lilly tried to clinch but the blood is now all over her face as Gianna managed to move backwards and circle away. Both women stand in the middle and exchange wildly, before Lilly tries for the clinch once again, but Gianna counters with a combination of punches, before her follow up jabs are countered by a stiff cross from Lilly. Not wanting to be that close Gianna steps back and connects with another stiff leg kick, before the women once again stand and exchange wild blows, soldily connecting before the round is called and they are sent to their corners.

Isaac Cohen’s Scorecard (Unofficial): 10-9 Howard (20-18 Howard)

ROUND THREE: Lilly starts round three with a big shovel hook attempt, but Gianna avoids it and goes once again back to the leg kick, buckling Lilly’s knee as she moves in and lands a straight right to the face! Lilly tries to recover and regain balance on that leg, but Gianna just launches another furious low kick, this time taking the leg completely out from under Lilly, clearly being in pain as she hits the mat. Gianna goes to follow up but the ref steps between them, calling off the fight and awarding the final championship bout of the night to “The Ghost” Gianna Howard.
