LAS VEGAS — What a year it’s been for the world of Mixed Martial Arts. With a boom in popularity through the course of 2019, seeing startup companies like Slaughterhouse Fight Nights, 8 Corners MMA, and Elite FC try their hand in the business, Union Grand Prix continued to prove to be the pinnacle of the sport. However, it wasn’t all burritos and strippers for the company, as an early summer scandal put the company on hold for about a month as they sorted through various litigations as a result.
From that however, we entered a new era for the young promotion. A monster wave of signings,, re-signings, releases, and restructured deals brought a new look and feel to the cage, and delivered numerous memorable moments. UGP 17 was the finale on Union’s first full calendar year, and this night did not disappoint. With two of the scheduled three title fights seeing the belt change hands, with the addition of a handful of contender fights laying the foundation for the future, UGP 17 set the tempo for another 365 days of incredible fights.
