What We Knew/What We Learned (Boss Fight 2)

Toussaint Harper here.

Nah. That wasn’t good.

It’s T-Harp what’s upppp!!

Nope, hell no. I’ll find one eventually.

I know you guys were wondering “hey, where is that intellectual black guy who analyzes the show from start to finish?” I wouldn’t even be mad if you didn’t know my name. I know the comeup takes time.

But guess what?

I GOT A PROMOTION!!

Come. Up. Secured.

You’ll see where and when but until then because of last week and the changes and meetings and getting me a whole new wardrobe I’ve decided to make a few changes to the column format. Biggest reason lack of time becaaaauuseee…

I GOT A PROMOTION!!!

Ok, that’s dead too I promise. How I will talk about Boss Fight #2 is a new little ditty called.

“What We Knew and What We Learned”

Wait! The Harpies are continuing as well. I do not care if they suck as a name it’s a damn good award to win.

What We Knew

- That is NOT Kira Izumi and uhh or uhh Sang-Hyug Lee picture but not...well...awkward. Of course this has already been touched on but I have it on good knowledge (well they are my co-workers) that Dan has had a REAL ROUGH week in the office.

- Robert Guilliman was one of the most sought after fighters before coming to Real Killas and a lot of hype behind the man coming into the big leagues.

- Sang-Hyun Lee coming into this fight getting demolished by Edan McLeod has a chance to introduce Guilliman into the majors so to speak.

What We Learned

- Kira I---oops. Sang-Hyun Lee as a LOT of catching up to do if he plans to compete here and succeed.

- Guilliman’s kicks are fast and furious. No cars needed.

- Even with a little defensive work on the feet Lee still isn’t familiar enough with the stand up side in MMA.

What We Knew

- Just looking at him Jakko is built like a 24 hour WalMart that is always stocked and ready without delay on anything you need. That sounded like a pause moment but that’s just what I saw walking into the cage.

- At this point we still didn’t know much about Mad Maxine because she hadn’t been given the opportunity to show her skillset due to her KO loss in the tournament. Beyond the strength everyone knows about her fighting accumen overall had yet to be seen in a Union GP octogon.

- That whoever contacts first it would hurt.

What We Learned

- This Wirman got some ground game! Impressive work on the kiruma to the armbar.

- The ground game isn’t just a myth. You have to have it all coming together as we expected bombs but ended up with a ground battle.

- Max can set up a nice takedown. Now it’s about her setting up everything else once down there.

What We Knew

- Both men need a W after both being shipped out of the tournament this is their return fire.

- Volkov has the boxing down. You don’t go to the Olympics if you don’t have the boxing down.

- Van Damne likes his kicks. Both can stand so it’s just a matter of who hits who with what.

What We Learned

- Van Damne has either watched WAY too many martial art movies or he just caught Volkov seriously off guard in the beginning of the fight with that flying knee.

- Van Damne has a chin. Not one that can withstand long punishment but for him to get up after that barrage beating on the ground does earn some respect.

- Volkov has a mean counter. I mean that could have been put in the what we knew but it’s much better to know once it’s put into action.

What We Knew

- Bullfrog can work. The man only losing to Bonanno has shown what he’s capable of doing and has been very impressive.

- Kira (the real one this time) Izumi has had a bad go of it since starting in Union. Prince of Darkness is correct as it has been a very dark time.

- We’ve seen Ford cancel out previous submission artists and work the ground very well. Which could bring problems for Izumi.

What We Learned

- We were right, problems for Izumi.

- Izumi did improve. Problems came but it wasn’t without a good effort with growth shown in his standup tatics.

- Ford submitted Izumi. Remember Izumi comes with a high class ground game. Ford has layers.

What We Knew

- This would be a GREAT main event.

- Bishop winning this would put a very different spin on the Round Robin.

- Bonanno is a beast.

What We Learned

- Bonanno definitely is a beast.

- Bishop showed the first sight of making Bonanno have to work for it. Out of all the fights this one seemed to make Bonanno get out of sticky situations in a hurry. Dominant in the standup though.

- Bonanno vs Ford II. Sagas are already in the making.

Next!

HOLY S**T MOMENT OF THE NIGHT: Those kicks Guilliman! Welcome to Union!! Geezus.

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT: Simon Bishop vs Cristian Bonanno

SUBMISSION OF THE NIGHT: Take your bow there Jeremiah Ford.

PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT: Viktor Volkov. To come back from a loss in that fashion is a big thing.

CLEANEST COUNTER: Viktor, congrats. You made double. The one that ended the fight was vicious.

THROWDOWN TAKEDOWN: Mad Maxine. That was one giant beat hug of a takedown. Losing effort I know but one heck of a takedown.
